Living Simply

My move towards a simpler life this month is cutting back on projects. I am just going to work on those projects that are what I consider necessary to finish for Christmas.

Decluttering will take place as well as another path to a life where I am not so surrounded by things. Really I have too much stuff!! I can do with much less and there are many items that I never use or have never used. Sometimes I can not believe how much clutter I have let into my life over the years.

Physical clutter does not make it an easy move towards a life of simplicity, and in fact I think that might be why I am not sleeping well. A cluttered life means a brain that keeps right on churning with ideas and things that one needs to have completed.

So over the next year I will be focusing on decluttering more, using up as much of the craft supplies that I can, and using up those cleaning supplies that seem to have gotten pushed to the back of the cleaning cupboard.

I am going to concentrate on enjoying life more and perhaps doing less. I am beginning to prefer staying home or just visiting family. I don't need the angst of going out for coffee and being told in a round about way that I know nothing. I want to take some classes, spend time with a good book and concentrate on my faith a bit more.

My meals are already fairly simple and in actual fact my cleaning routine is as well.

I enjoy all the blogs I read and have learned so much from all of you. Many of you have helped me decide on what is best for me and how to live a more simple and uncomplicated life.

Life is meant to be lived to the fullest, enjoyed and that is what I have decided to do.

Harvey and I sat by the fire last night and as we enjoyed each others company I began to realize how I filled my life with busyness and did not take the time to talk.

I hope to keep the fire of moving towards a life that encompasses family more and busyness less in mind as simplicity begins to take over my life.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  1. Dear Jackie, I can speak for myself in telling you that physical clutter has been known to keep me awake at night. Not only that, it stresses me.
I feel so energized, calm and happy when I have cleaned and organized (which includes clearing clutter and purging).
I wish you all the best! I know it isn't easy for some and, quite honestly, some days isn't easy for myself either, but I always feel calm and happy once it is done.

  4. That’s beautiful Jackie.
I thought of you today, as my husband climbed an apple tree to get me fresh heritage apples! We took a picnic lunch, sat by the river in an area that used to be property owned by a pioneer who grew apple trees. Even though now, it’s a park, the old apples and fig trees are still producing. So I’ll be making an apple crisp or some kind of apple dessert tomorrow! We used to forge for fruit but it seems like there’s not as much as it used to be. It made my day!!! 🍎🍏

  5. I’m trying to stay on top of the clutter too and culling items we no longer use. It’s an ongoing process for sure. I think concentrating on your faith is such a worthy goal. And living a simple life is something to strive for. Your evening with Harvey is such a great example.

  6. Sounds a perfect path to be on, I removed loads from my home and really feel so much better, I gave loads of crafting items to our local school, some fabrics I was never going to use I gave to our local college, I still have more than I will ever use.....

  9. You are so accustomed to being busy all the time, I suspect slowing down and relaxing will seem a little difficult. But your realization by the fire would suggest you're ready to make the changes you want to make.
There is a fellow whose blogs I've read occasionally that ends his posts with, It's Time. It definitely sounds like you are there too. You deserve it.

  10. Good for you, Jackie. That sounds really great. I'm trying to drastically reduce my media consumption, given the current state of the world. It's just too stressful & I know it keeps me up at night. Instead, I want to focus more on things I can control.

I made good inroads on my decluttering yesterday, but there is always more to do. I'm having a great weekend, because I feel like I have a ton of time to get things done, which I'm loving! - Hawaii Planner

  11. I think we all end up with too much stuff, things we never use, or no longer want. Decluttering does take time though, doesn't it. Now my darling Robin has passed away, there has been so much in his wardrobe and drawers to deal with. I'm sorry to read that your coffee dates leave you feeling upset. No need to put up with that, friends and acquaintances are often too caught up in their own worlds but you should expect friendly conversation from them. Sitting around the fire and chatting away to hubby sounds the perfect end to the day,

  12. I'm glad to hear that you are taking a step back and being a bit less busy. I'd hate you to exhaust yourself trying to do too much. Decluttering is something I desperately need to do too. I'm really not good at getting rid of things, I wish I was but I'm not. I do, however, acknowledge the need to. Cleaning the house the other week was a challenge, partly because I had to relocate so much to make the spaces for our guests welcoming and uncluttered. As I'm no longer working, I'm trying to avoid buying anything that we absolutely don't need, including cleaning materials and toiletries. We already have plenty to keep us going a while yet. I'm also still trying to use fabric from my stash.
