Midweek

I am no longer really surprised at how quickly the weeks pass by. Rather I am surprised that Christmas is only a few weeks away. At least now the weather is a bit more Christmassy now.

This is what it looks like outside right now.

We are having some lovely ice depositing fog, which makes me even more happy to stay home and work around the house. While I did spend money today I did not leave the house. Bill paying happened and it was all done online. No running around the city to the various places (well it would only be two places but one is on this side of the city and one on the other side of the city). No having to face the crazy drivers who seem to forget what driving is when it is icy and there is snow on the road. Really scary here the first part of winter.

Maebeme asked me if I had any lentil recipes, so here goes. All of these are online and are relatively easy to make. This is also one way we are beating rising costs. Lentils are a great source of protein and much less expensive than meat at this point in time.

Lentil Curry is one of our favs. Mediterranean Red Lentil Soup is another. I have also added a few lentils (like perhaps a handful) to Spaghetti Meat Sauce to stretch that out. I made a Brown Lentil Soup that was very good as well. Those are the best ones I have used so far. I did make a baked lentil meal, but that did not go over very well so never made it again. I also made falafels once and they used chickpeas and lentils. Not our favourite meal at all.

I know people who make taco's with lentils and really like them so that will be the next recipe I try.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.
God bless.

  1. I agree - it seems the idiots come out and drive when it's snowy and it's downright scary to be out there.

  2. I have about ten pounds of lentils on hand, so I need to be using them more than I have been. I used some today in the pizza beans I made for dinner. They are so much more affordable than meat these days. Your snow looks beautiful. I had to go to town today and did stop in at Aldi for some celery, which cost 95 cents. I need it for the dressing for tomorrow.

  3. Dear Jackie, stay safe, dear friend. I stayed home today...even though I use public transit, just because it was foggy and dreary...and raining. Your photo is lovely.

  4. Happy Thanksgiving! Be safe. I'm in the cabinet painting industry in Michigan. It can get very snowy here. Hard to drive in these conditions, trust me, I know. Be safe and thanks for sharing your light.

  5. I made my version of a lentil soup this week. I had canned corn to use up so added that. I do not care for the corn but otherwise the soup is great.
We’ve started getting snow, too. It looks pretty but packs a whollup if you have to drive in it. (As you know.)

  6. Hi Jackie! I've seen your comments on a couple of blogs I follow and thought I'd pop in and say hello. It looks so cold there! I'm in in Florida where it's nice and warm. Sending warm thoughts your way! :)

  7. It's like that here. Since we don't have summer rain, the first rain can be a recipe for disaster with the roads slippery when wet and with the oil on the road. People drive like maniacs. I like lentils but they bother my stomach like beans do. It's a shame because I really like beans and lugumes. They just don't like me anymore. 😕

  8. How can it possibly be December in three days' time? Crazy!
I'm glad you were able to pay those bills online - not the weather to be out and about unless you have to be. xx

  9. That looks so cold. We may get some this weekend. It is nice to be able to stay in the nice warm house. It seems drivers forget from once year to another how to drive on snow!

  11. My daughter adds lentils to most meals. Lentils are really high in fiber and really good for the heart. Jean in Manitoba

  12. Yum I live in lentil country, and they are free on the prairie. During festivals you can get bags of all kinds of lentils. I have glass jars full of them in the garage.

  13. Our government released their new budget this week after months of speculation and we will now be charged 1.5 pence per mile we drive, due to having a hybrid car. It is a new tax that they are introducing soon, but it seems a bit counterintuitive to penalise drivers of more eco friendly cars, but who am I to argue. Luckily, our mileage is already pretty low, and I won't be ceasing to shop out of town. It is a luxury that I enjoy to get out of the city one day per week. I don't think it will add more than £100 per year to our car/tax bill, but it is a little annoying. It was, however, the main thing that affects us from this year's budget, so it could be worse.
