It has been a very cold week here on the Canadian prairies. A warm up should be happening starting next week. Absolutely lovely as far as I am concerned. I may even be able to get out for some fresh air, even if it is just walking up and down the road.
The warm up also comes in time for my visit to the mobile mammogram unit, that hits our city every two years. I love not having to travel into the city of Regina unless something is wrong.
So what have I been up to this week? No projects really finished but a couple have been started and I worked on gathering items for next month's projects. Lots of using up happening.
I have also been figuring out ways to save on electrical costs. More appliance cooking will be happening here over the next couple of months. The only time I will use the oven is to bake bread, cookies or pies and I will make darn sure the oven is packed. I will also open the oven door to take advantage of the residual heat and heat my kitchen.
I know people say the one way we control our money and budget is through groceries. While that is true in bigger centers, here it is a bit more difficult. We have three grocery stores and Walmart, not a great selection really. I do most of my shopping at our Co-op. This is mostly because we get a percentage back as part owner. We the people own the business and the more one spends the more one gets back in return.
I also have a Visa that gives cash back as well. More on groceries than other items like gas, but we still get money back. I haven't cashed in on that as of yet, but I will soon, I am hoping to have enough in that to pay for a two week grocery shop very soon. The Co-op cash back usually pays for part of a shop.
Life is good even in the midst of chaos, and I hope will stay that way.
Everybody have a wonderful evening.
God bless.

How neat on the Co-op. I used to belong to a Co-op health food/natural food store for several years. Sadly it no longer exists. Cash back on CC is nice.
ReplyDeleteStay warm!
I get rebates for our Coops here, as well I got a nice rebate from Costco. I also received a nice gift certificate for Christmas. All three will be used on groceries.
ReplyDeleteWe only have one grocery store. I don’t count Family Dollar and Dollar general. We have to drive about an hour in three different directions for the big guns. Which we do. (We volunteer to pick up fish for the Moose fish fry so we make a trip almost every week for that.) The prices here are astronomical! We can save what we spend on gas just by buying several items. We usually put the word out that we’re going and will pick up food for others. I need to get some projects ready. I’ve been busy doing too much sitting!
ReplyDeleteFor years when my boys were young, I was part of a fruit and vegetable co-op with 12 families. Good times and fresh food.
ReplyDeleteEnough to pay for that much food sounds wonderful. I have a friend who has a Wally and hers is small with not a lot of food. We have a Co-Op too, it's further out but I love it. Lots of neat sales they run for members. Closer to home, an Aldi.
ReplyDeleteDo you dehydrate fruits? Or ferment veggies? I love doing that but I also get that some folks don't enjoy ferments too. Great way to stretch sales though.
Dear Jackie, how nice on the co-op.
ReplyDeleteYes, the Co-op is great that you get a percentage back on your purchases there. We don’t use our big oven much these days either. We use the oven in our smaller air fryer appliance which also has a bake setting. It’s a good appliance as it’s also a dehydrated toaster too. It’s good to hear that you’ll be getting a warm up next week!

Our card schemes now give us instant money off, before we always saved it until December to pay for our Christmas treats.
ReplyDeleteThe Visa cash back card sounds like a good idea. I don't have any such cards or accounts unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteWe are in the deep freeze now, not likely to warm up soon. Making soup today watching the snow fall. We don't have co-op here, not a fan of WM, and try to make use of the very few local markets for fresh vegetables and stay away from chains. Life is good even in chaos. staying out of the fray and stay focused on keeping that way.
ReplyDeleteI've not yet received a cash back rebate - just checked and it is determined by age (usually 65) but depends on the local Co-op. In any event the card is in my daughter's name and she's only 44 so we've got a bit of time yet.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I do appreciate the Co-op sales, especially the Warehouse sale and the discount day (first Tuesday of the month if my memory serves).
Glad to hear it is going to start warming up. My brother said the warm-up will be accompanied by high winds again though. Stay warm and dry!
