Saturday Round Up

I am hoping that this is still working, and I may just be doing lots of editing to make sure of that.

It seems to be working. So I will tell you all the story about my leaving the Fiber Friends meeting. The meeting was wonderful, I even learned a few new cast on techniques as well as a new bind of one. I will need to practice those before I use them. The trouble began as I entered the parking lot to leave.

Imagine this rather rounded 70 year old woman walking toward her car and wondering if she had misplaced it. Instead she finds it parked beside two rather large trucks. One truck, the one on the passenger side was there when she had arrived, the other spot had been occupied by an SUV much the same size as hers. Now however this huge monstrosity was parked in its place. To make matters worse this monstrosity was only 6" away from the driver's side of her vehicle.

Yes, she probably could have gone back into the hotel and asked the desk to find the owner, and in hindsight that probably would have been the best thing to do. Or she could have gone in and asked to use the phone, called her husband to pick her up and left the vehicle there until the morning....

Was either of those what she chose to do? Nope. Instead after some rather choice words leaving her mouth, she decided to enter through the passenger door, crawl across the center arm rest/can holder, and storage drawer and wiggle her way into the driver's seat.

She made it after twisting her body in ways that it hadn't been twisted in years and carefully backed out of the space.

Once home she checked (in the dark) to see if the other driver had scratched her car. Really couldn't see too much. Went in and told her husband what had occurred.

Calmed down a bit by doing some more knitting and then realized her legs were a bit sore. By the middle of the night or rather early morning unable to sleep due to pain, she moved out of the bedroom, took a pain med, and tried to sleep on the chesterfield. Finally falling asleep only to dream about being chased down by huge trucks.

The next morning she went shopping and by the end had such a sore back that it became a problem putting groceries away.

My back is fine now. Thank heavens.

Now on to what I managed to accomplish as far as projects this week.

Flimsy is made, it needs some ironing.

Ornaments are done as well. These are just a few of them. The others are in a small box. On the back of those who are married is the spouses name.

Hope to have more finished by the end of the month.

Everybody have a wonderful day.

God bless.

  2. First off, so the meeting was about knitting?
Second, my goodness! Choices we make that seem easier obviously are those that we may pay for later.
Sorry your choice was one of those.
We've all done such things, no doubt.

  4. Oh dear me Jackie - I have had this very same thing happen before & like you, I climbed through the passenger side. I think it only takes a tweak in the wrong direction to cause you the back & leg pain. It is really tricky to climb through these tight areas, especially when we are no longer young & flexible anymore. Take care Jackie - your flimsy is just beautiful. xx

  6. Oh that's so funny Jackie. I laugh because I have done that before and it ain't easy! Then to have a dream a huge truck is chasing you...
Reminds me of a movie back in the 70's starring Dennis Weaver called Duel. I believe it was Steven Spielberg's movie debut for directing. The Truck was the antagonist. Good but tense thriller of road rage.

  8. Sorry, but I had to chuckle a little - been there and done the same darn thing! I am sorry you were hurting afterward, but glad you are feeling better. I once climber through a hatchback!
    The flimsy is so pretty.
I hope you got those guys in your dreams and gave them a good throttling!!!!

  9. the quilt top is just beautiful! The ornaments remind me of the ones our local hospital used to do for the patients that had passed that year. I still have the ones for brother and aunts a very nice memento.

  10. OK,I waited to see if you would show a picture of a "flimsy" and I STILL don't know what it is. Obviously, it is made of fabric sewn together but what for? This 85 year old Stateside lady has never heard of such a thing - it must be Canadian.

    1. A flimsy is what quilters call a quilt top before it is layered and quilted.

  11. Oh my gosh, no wonder your back is sore. Mine would have been too. I don't like it when big trucks park beside me for that reason, it's hard to get into my car then. I like that you included the spouses names on the back of the ornaments, that's a very thoughtful idea and gift.

  12. Wow! Beautiful flimsy and ornaments! Your hard work is paying off.
I’d be in pain, too. I love a good challenge, that’s my problem. (One among many!) Growing older ain’t for sissies, from what i’ve heard.

  13. I hate it when people park so close to you. I find the parking spaces are not made for such big vehicles nowadays. Glad you made it out safe and sound though, without damage to any vehicle.

  14. I don't understand why people feel they have to park so close, knowing full well you wouldn't be able to get into your car. They're the people that get all bent out of shape if anyone dares to 'return the favour' to them. So sorry about your body suffering from the contortion act you had to go through.
Glad to hear the fiber group is a good one. It's wonderful to have a group of like-minded people.

  16. It's not easy these days to climb over from the passenger side. It used to be easier in older cars with a gearstick, but not so now. Some people can be very inconsiderate with regard to the way they park up. Glad your back was better the following day though. Your flimsy and the baubles you have made are lovely. I'm sure they'll be well received.

  18. I had this happen to me, I was parked in an end spot. A very large truck parked to my left (not in a space) because there wasn't one. 1" from the driver side. I stood and I waited for them to exit, which they did not after 1/2 hour. I had a few choice words, and I climbed over from the passenger side to the drivers side. I find it interesting that along with you, and myself this happened to others. Had I had a phone I would have called the police. I was really angry that somebody could be that totally rude.
