Sunday Ramblings

The day once again started of a bit cloudy and pretty darn cold, but it has warmed up a bit and the sun is shining. We are in for a couple of days of cold weather and then a warm up until the end of the month. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the nice weather will last until Kris has been home for Easter, and Kurt gets off on his journey with his students to France and the visits to the Canadian beach, and graveyards of our fallen hero's.

Me, well the next few days being cold I will be staying home, working on the usual household tasks, and of course my projects.

I should, in fact, finish the flimsy tomorrow and perhaps even get all the necessary items together to work on the ornaments. Those will be another item to add to the silent auction. The more that we have to bid on, the less likely we will need to pay for anything like the Friday night meal or the Saturday larger meal and rental of the building.

There is also hope that I will be finished the rug for Kris before he comes home. I am about halfway finished the one border.

Still I have many projects (well a number of them) on my list that I haven't even started yet......

The mini computer for my television has been ordered. Kris looked at the specs I sent him and said it would work perfectly for what I want. I also told him about my email problem and he is going to see if he can fix that as well. Hmm, I think I should have told him about the pictures on Gallery problem as well. Oh well I can manage with the old digital camera just fine for the next while though the camera on the phone takes much better photos.

Work continues on the decluttering front and my hope to have a much simpler life by the time I am done. Perhaps by doing so we will be able to stay in our home longer as in looking at what the monthly condo fees are and the property taxes on said condos we would actually go through our cash reserves quite quickly..... I think it might be less expensive to rent an apartment in the city.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  1. I am with you - I want to stay in my home as long as possible. It is paid for and my taxes aren't bad at all. Sure is nice to not have to make payments on a home. Have a great week.

  2. Are you able to rent your condo out and use that money for a place in the city? You mentioned staying in your home longer but also cash running out.

Sorry the photos are a mess. I'm not sure why you can't plug a cord in and transfer that way? But maybe it's much worse an issue than just getting them off the phone. Hopefully Kris will get that sorted for you.

Wishing you a great decluttering week!

  3. Our home here is paid for too, which helps us be as frugal as we can, so I understand your sentiments. We had thunderstorms and high wind all night long and the power went off twice. Today the temperature is supposed to drop to bitter cold, so we are in for some more cold weather for the time being.

  4. Our property taxes are really high (close to $40k/year), due to the very odd way property taxes are structured in California. It makes sense to limit increases (my neighbor is an original owner & pays under $1k, and she is 85 or so), but it's an unsustainable model for sure. We consider it our a house payment (our house is paid off), so in that way, our house will never really be paid off, I suppose. - Hawaii Planner

  5. When we did our latest downsize we sold our too-big-for-us home and moved into an apartment. In some ways we are glad we did, but we sure do miss being able to put the car in a garage. Looking at the cost for apartments now, we wouldn't be able to afford to go that route and would be stuck in the house. Sadly we also cannot move to a better apartment because the rent is so high (luckily we're grandfathered in so our rent is lower but we live in fear that the powers that be will decide to turn our building into condos so they make more money. We'd be turfed out with no place to go that we could afford.

  6. We plan to die in this house. It's home. Both my mom and dad passed in this house. But one never knows. So far we're blessed we can manage well in expensive California.

  7. I love having lots of different projects on the go and incubating in my head. I do, however, like to finish them and start new ones too. Recently, the ideas keep coming, which is a good thing, but I'm sure a time will come when I've made everything I want to.

  8. Dear Jackie, I live in a 6th floor apartment and have been in this apartment for over 8 years. I am very happy here 😊

I have never lived in a house 🏠 or condo, my parents have always lived in an apartment. I am used to it and in the building where I am living now it is quite and I have nice neighbours.
Mostly elderly and disabled live in my building.

If I lived in a house I would probably want to stay as well.

  9. I forgot to mention. Our temperature here in Montreal reached 13 Celsius today. It is mild but very windy.

  10. Do check on the costs of rentals, from what I've heard rental rates are quite high in the city. There was an article in the CBC need this morning.
Just got caught up in your last few posts. Your soup looked delicious!
