Midweek Musings

Late post today, mainly because most of our afternoon was spent at the travel agent's desk and checking for emails from her. Plus then I needed to catch up on a bit of the household tasks. Still did not get them all completed so it is a good thing I put "do unfinished" on the list each day. Sometimes there are unfinished tasks to complete.

Why is it so darn expensive to travel in Canada???? We could probably have gone on a tour in Europe for less than the Canadian tour is going to end up costing us. Flights are very expensive as well, even booking months in advance. Our agent did manage to get us a good deal on those, but then because we are arriving the night before the tour begins we needed to pay extra for the hotel. Still between the savings on the tour, and the savings on the flight we will be able to pay the insurance fees and the hotel room and still be slightly ahead.

I did no weaving today, which is a pity because I would have been that much closer to finishing off the dark grey stripe and perhaps getting ready to begin the lighter grey stripe. This weaving is going to be tea towels, but because the yarn is so thin it is going to take a goodly amount of time. I am hoping to get at least 2 made for myself. If lucky I may get a third, but I kind of doubt it. I am really happy with how even the weaving is this time around.

Knitting, well I finished the first mitt of the 4th pair and have cast on the second mitt. This probably will not be finished tonight though. Man, I need to stay home and concentrate on getting things done. As there will be no more out of the house things happening this week pretty sure I will be able to complete a few more pairs of mittens and a goodly portion of the first tea towel as well.

A bit of weeding was done, but more is necessary. We have some elms quite close to us and with the winds we have been having lots of the seeds were blown into the pots and baskets. Now, many little elms are growing and they definitely need to be pulled out. Pretty sure there are lots in the perennial bed as well. Tomorrow, at least 20 minutes will be spent getting rid of them, plus working on the perennial bed once again.

It seems as if we just might have gotten rid of those Asian lily beetles as I don't see any more munching of leaves. Last year they were horrendous, this year I just might have started fighting them at the right time. Both Harvey and I were very worried that they had actually destroyed them and they would never grow again.

Now, there is worry about the delphinium I planted. It looks like something decided to munch on the leaves. There is only one left now. Can't see anything crawling on it, but perhaps one of the sweet little bush bunnies is having a munching fest.

I will visit you all tomorrow morning, right now it is back out to finish watering the plants.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  1. Everything is expensive any more. It makes me sad so I try to keep busy. I mean there’s nothing I can do about it. Where are you going in Canada?

  2. I like adding “do unfinished “ on your to do list each day. I’m going to incorporate that into my list. I’ve had a running list all week as tasks took longer than usual this week, although I’ve slowly been checking things off each day. I need to do some weeding and gardening in the yard too. It’s on my list so hopefully today will be the day I get that task done.

  3. I'm curious too, where will you be travelling? Glad you were able to find some less expensive flights. I used to use AirMiles for hotels, but with so few retailers offering them now, it takes forever to save up enough.
We haven't seen evidence of the lily beetles, yet. But I won't be surprised if we do. What did you use to get rid of them?

  4. Look forward to hearing about the trip you have planned. I have weeded and weeded this week - it doesn't end.

  5. I have a problem every year with the deer eating my hostas.

  6. Can't wait to hear about your trip! I love planning travel & hearing about others as well. A critter ate all of my cucumbers (maybe 20?) right before I was going to pick them, and also nibbled into most of the squash. So frustrating. We need to understand how they are getting into our raised beds (we have spikes, and have the beds wrapped to prevent the critters from getting in, but it's obviously not working!) Once we understand how they are getting in, we will come up with other options. DH is buying a mini camera to set up, which makes me laugh. I guess we will really be getting a show. - Hawaii Planner

  7. It's always so exciting making plans for a trip, I always think. Can't wait to hear more about your plans. Now that my Robin has passed away and the caravan has been sold, any trips I want to do will be quite different than in the past. I'm planning a coach (bus) trip for later in the year. It will be a big thing for me to go alone, but hopefully it will all work out well.

  8. We'd like to fly out to BC to visit our family but the costs just keep climbing. At least, once we get there, we stay with them so that keeps the costs down. We use a 'limo' service (hah - sounds posh but it's really just a car) to get us to and from the airport because we can't drive there ourselves, to say nothing about the costs to park there. We can count on having to add $500 to the cost of the flights just to get to and from the airport.
