Thrifty and Frugal
I will first answer the question on where we are heading for our 9 day holiday.
Harvey has never really been to Eastern Canada. I think the farthest east he has traveled was a small town near Sault Saint Marie. We did take a trip to Nova Scotia for a wedding going a few days before the wedding and staying a few days after. But as far as Ontario and Quebec... nope. So this tour will take in Toronto, Niagara Falls, Lockport, The Thousand Islands, Ottawa, Quebec City, and Montreal. I am really looking forward to seeing Quebec City and both extra tours we will be taking are there. The first is a tour of the Hotel Frontenac in the late morning, and then a trip to a redone flour mill for dinner in the evening. That is pretty much the only place I have never been. Must brush up on my French I guess.
On to frugal and thrifty endeavors this past week.
1. I picked rhubarb and got it washed sliced and in the freezer. From the looks of the plants I need to get out and pick more.
2. Clothes were hung on the outside lines. Thank heavens there was no smoke on Monday.
3. Lights are being turned off with more regularity now. Trying to keep the electric bill low.
4. Darned a pair of socks.
5. Found more scraps to make a few more tinkle cloths. I am really hoping to be able to not have to wash those quite as often.
6. Cut up some t-shirts that were unsuitable for donating into cleaning rags.
7. Using up all leftovers in other meals either for dinner or lunches. I am also finishing up a few bags of frozen odds and ends like egg rolls.
8. Weeded the gardens for exercise and walked to get the mail.
9. Using up yarn from my stash.
10. Using up the lotions and potions I received as gifts over the years. Using up bath gel as well.
11. I am using appliances for cooking where and when I can.
Pretty sure there are more, but my mind is drawing a blank.
Everybody have a wonderful evening.
God bless.
We were gifted some rhubarb so happily put most of it in the freezer and the RC made a pie with the rest. We still do most of the laundry by hand and hang it on the pole over our bathtub to dry. At about $6 per load of laundry if we cart it down to the laundry room we figure we've saved quite a bit.
ReplyDeleteI’m so glad there was no smoke on Monday and hope that continues.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like it will be a nice trip for you.
ReplyDeleteGood week!
Sounds like a great trip you are planning!
ReplyDeleteOh that sounds like so much fun. I’ve been to Niagara Falls one time, years ago. I’d love to see it again.
ReplyDeleteMy Goodness! You will be in my back yard!!! When you allot time to see Niagara Falls, be sure the give yourself ample opportunity to head up to Niagara on the Lake. It is beautiful. I hope you do not have any difficulties with the border crossings. Your best bet, will be to use the Lewiston Bridge (unless there's a specific accident that day).
ReplyDeleteYour trip sounds like so much fun! Nick is currently on a backpacking & hiking trip around Mount St. Helens, and I'm envious. It looks gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of you today, as I'm having a t-shirt quilt made for Nick (with all of his tshirts & jerseys from his school years). He can take the quilt to college, and is pretty sentimental, so he loved the idea. I wish I was skilled enough to make it myself! - Hawaii Planner
Your trip sounds wonderful! I've been to Toronto, but not seen the sights, spent a day in Montreal when the weather was absolutely miserable, but we did get to the Cathedral in the old part of the city.
ReplyDeleteI'm assuming this is a bus tour and you'll be on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls.
Your trip sounds amazing. I would love to visit those places. You sound like you are being very frugal, using what you have and not bringing more stuff in. Good job.
