Thrifty And Frugal Thursday

 Thrifty and Frugal

It is a very hot day here on the old homestead and we are under severe thunderstorm warnings. However the dark clouds seem to be passing more to the north of us once again. The wind has risen though and that could signal a change in our weather.

So what frugal and thrifty things have been happening around the homestead this week.

1.  The usual hanging clothes on the outside lines, watching our water usage (which is getting a bit more difficult as the rain barrel is almost empty), using leftovers up to make new meals, using bread I baked and put in the freezer while the boys were home and decluttering where I can.

2.  I have saved elastics from various vegetables I have purchased this week.

3.  Paid bills online and combined errands with the car.

4.  Purchased some spray bottles from our Dollar Tree here in town to make some of my own cleaning supplies. Checked food prices and some are much less expensive than the regular price at my favourite grocery store.

5.  Following my grocery list. Got a few items for the pantry that we were running lower than I like on.

6.  Turning off lights in rooms not in use with more regularity. There have been too many times I have forgotten to do so.

7.  Spending time working on projects and taking 15 minute breaks walking around the house for exercise.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  2. Good job. Watch the sizes of those items at Dollar Tree - I found they were usually smaller than the grocery.

  3. It's hard to find reasonable spray bottles anywhere but Dollar Tree. I also need to be better about turning off lights. We do keep the ceiling fans running.

  4. When I had my Fitbit (& a sticks and brick home) it used to remind me to get up every hour and add a certain number of steps. Now, I forget to do that.

  5. I need to get back into my steps & paying attention. When I'm on track with it, I'm super disciplined. Then, the opposite is true when I'm not on track! - Hawaii Planner

  6. We had a huge storm here in town last night, with constant thunder and sheet lightning. The rain barrels are definitely full! I understand the city got rain and hail as well - or at least parts of the city did.

  7. My Fitbit reminds me to get up and move too, but sometimes I ignore it. 😂

Cheryl mention watching the sizes at the Dollar Tree, but I bought the 97 cents Dawn a few weeks ago at Walmart and it had shrunk down to 5 ounces. I was shocked!

Sounds like a great frugal week, Jackie. Way to go. 😊

  8. I think we are all being careful with our groceries these days and rising prices everywhere. I discovered some forgotten fuel vouchers recently, so I'm using them when it's time to top up the car. Long trips away arent happening any more, just

  9. The RC makes certain that we use up every scrap of food and only very rarely does something get thrown out. However, having said that, yesterday he made a new-to-us lemon tart dessert and, after we both ended up with bad indigestion because it was entirely too lemon-y, he did throw out the rest. Luckily there were only 5 left and not a dozen or more.
