I slept very well last night and didn't wake until 5:30 this morning. Meant a quick walk/hobble to the facilities. Then I decided to lay on the couch and fell asleep for another hour. I was very well rested.
However, Jackie did something she swore she would not do ever again, and that was head out shopping before having something, anything to eat. By the time I was done, I felt weak, nauseous, and headachy. All I wanted to do by the time groceries were put away was have something to eat, drink and perhaps work on projects for a bit. Other household tasks were put on hold until I started to feel a bit better. Paying the remainder of the trip was on the list, but I will do so tomorrow. I did do the online bill paying and the transferring of money from the savings account to the chequing account. I will be using the credit card to pay the next installment and then paying that off totally when it shows up on the card. Probably in a week or so.
The feeling better did not happen until just a bit ago. It was a darn good thing most of the household tasks were completed before I went out. I just got back in from watering my plants. It is a good thing that all I need to make is the sandwiches to go with the Lentil Soup tonight as I still feel slightly lightheaded and headachy.
I worry about those just starting out, or in low paying service jobs. While saving money is important to us after years of doing just that, we really are okay and could in fact probably let up on the frugal endeavors. I think they are too ingrained to stop though. Many people have no choice and really need to cut back and sometimes the cutting back is on medical, heat, light, air conditioning. Those things could in fact cause death or failing health leading to other complications.
Things are getting scary out in the world. Wars, allies no longer allies, and those we thought of as friends we sometimes find out really are not our friends.
It is starting to thunder out, so I had better end this. It was beginning to be too much of a downer as well.
Hopefully some project pictures coming up very soon and more talk about trying to simplify our lives here on the old homestead.
Everybody have a wonderful evening.
God bless.
Yes, so many people are close to being food insecure and that is really sad. Glad you are doing ok.
ReplyDeleteI think we are all trying to stretch our meals, I feel that Bill and I eat pretty cheaply. perhaps not the best of meals but not much processed stuff either.
ReplyDeleteI try my best to be positive........so, sorry, skipped through your last paragraphs. have a great evening Jackie.
(ps, I find if I go grocery shopping on an empty stomach, a few extra things go in the cart. Good for you if you stuck to your list!) 😊
I got several small jars of salves made. It always makes me feel virtuous when i can do something like that. We ate leftovers and i didn’t go anywhere nor spend money today. I even took a nap! The news is too depressing to keep on top of so i’m trying to stay busy. Hand stitching almost every day.
ReplyDeleteI hope we get rain, too, we need it!
I am sorry you felt so cruddy today -- I can't go out hungry without ending up with a big headache too. And I am as upset as you are. I have seen that meat packing plants are just closing down rather than being open and vulnerable to raids. Things with Iran are crazy. Our President is messing up the world for everyone!
ReplyDeleteIt's not really about saving the pennies with food, it's always been about waste, it's the way our mum's trained us by their everyday things they did. Also the awareness of how much stuff we have accumulated over the years, and how we realise it does not bring us joy.
ReplyDeleteYes, there is a lot of food insecurity right now, unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteI bring a cheese stick with me when I leave the house just in case I need it. One episode of low blood sugar will have me feeling poorly for a while.
I rarely purchase meat except on sale, and I agree the prices are ridiculous, especially as we have suppliers of beef, pork, and chicken locally.
ReplyDeleteWe had a good rain in about 10 minutes in our area of the city yesterday. It came with a bit of hail, so I'm just as happy that my son won't let me have flowers here. It makes sense as I'm not in the city very much and will be here even less, but I do miss my containers. I'll be home later today so will get my fix. :)
I too only purchase meat when it is on sale, we eat a lot of chicken.....
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to not let the news get to me, sadly I am not always successful. I don't want my life "fear-driven" but it happens sometimes.
I am anxious to see the rug you are making.

Regarding the price of meat - we have discovered that stretching hamburger with equal amounts of TVP is economical and, quite honestly, we can't tell that it's not all meat. Can't manage to eat TVP on its own but when it's combined with hamburger it's good (and cheap!). We haven't bought steak or roasts for years because they're just too expensive. We did get a brisket on sale awhile ago and liked it - but then tried it again and it was pretty much all fat. I can't stomach fat so we decided we wouldn't buy any more.
ReplyDeleteThe cost of meat here is very high too. I tend to only buy it when it is yellow stickered these days and then freeze it. It does mean we eat less red meat, which is good for the animals I guess.
