Why?

I think the world has gone a bit crazy lately.

This Covid-19 virus has brought out the worst in people around the world. Fights over toilet paper for crying out loud, people coughing in others faces, shelves stripped of antibacterial products, shelves stripped of food, and because of this limits being placed on what people can buy.

These things are not only happening in places where there is a great outbreak of the virus, but in the larger centers of relatively virus free cities (okay some of these cities are hit by the virus).

Panic causes people to do some very strange things, and it seems like when one person starts, more follow. Kind of a herd mentality I think.

I watched a video today on Facebook of people rushing into a Costco store in the United States all heading to the toilet paper. People could have been seriously hurt as the carts were pushed willy nilly towards that area of the store. Once there the shoppers threw package after package into their carts. Not content with one package of 48, I saw people putting 6 or 7 packages into their carts and pushing their way out of the crowd, not caring if they hit the person behind or beside them.

How much toilet paper do you really need?

I do stockpile to a certain extent, but never would I need that much toilet paper (probably would last us at least 6 months).

My friends husband cleared off a shelf here in Walmart of hand sanitizer and keeps going back to see if they have more. He has also been stockpiling Lysol disinfectant, wipes and sprays. In fact he was quite happy to note that he had cleared the shelves of those items as well.

I told him maybe he should concentrate on food as they seem to always be heading to the store to pick up some edible or another.

Me, well I am very well stocked in the meat department, and my canned foods (tuna, salmon) are good as well.

I am not going to go overboard, just pick up my medication, buy some tinned fruit, and some fresh veggies that stay in good shape for at least a week as well as some frozen veggies as well. I will make sure I leave plenty for others as well.

I will also make sure to take some items to our food bank. After all those that use this service need the food as well.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Sunday Ramblings

I am home once again and hope to be able to head back up to help Kris out by the 15th or 16th. We shall see what happens.

The drive home was okay, I have driven on worse roads (though at the time I was at least 10 years younger). The curves in the highway were quite slushy and there were areas that snow was covering quite deeply. I believe it was more from the actions of the wind than real snowfall. I just am glad that I came home during the day, as I am pretty sure that as the sun went down and the temperature dropped the roads became very icy.

Kris slept well (at least that is what he told me) last night. We both had a cup of Sleepytime tea and he took his herbal melatonin. He seemed contented over how much sleep he got at any rate.

I did a quick clean of one of the shelves in the cupboard over his countertop dishwasher and now his kettle resides in there. The next time I go I plan on cleaning the other two shelves and getting a few more of the appliances on top of his cupboards rehomed so he can reach them.

Harvey decided that he is going to come with me on the 28th of this month for Kris's next appointment with the orthopedic surgeon. He has already told me to reserve a hotel room for the night of the 27th.

Funny story, but I woke up at one point of the night and was patting the futon wondering why he was not in bed yet. Took me awhile to realize that I was not at home and Harvey was more than likely in our bed here at home.

I am hoping to get some sewing done this week and I have an idea for the next pair of pants I plan on making.... Hopefully some embroidery around the bottom of the legs, it will just take a bit of thinking and planning on my part.

While I did not get to attend Mass today, I followed the Lenten devotion by Tim Gray on the Transfiguration of Christ. Very interesting and it is really making me think. I am loving this Lenten program.

I am off to have a lovely soak in our tub. Heck I may even turn on the jets.

Everybody have a wonderful evening. I will visit those I missed today, tomorrow.

God bless.

Saturday Roundup

I did manage to get everything  completed before I made the trip to Regina this week. Much to my surprise.

This weekend will be spent doing things for Kris and trying my best to make him comfortable.

Yesterday we went to visit a doctor here in the city. Kris has bee having lots of trouble sleeping so he decided that it might be  a good idea to get something to help. After waiting for almost 2 hours he finally got in. By the time we picked up his prescription and a few other items it was well past 6. Supper was  very late and not a whole lot done on the tidying front was accomplished either.

This morning I got busy and cleaned the sinks, dusted, washed the floors in the bathroom and kitchen, cleaned the toilet and the sink.

This afternoon I completed the laundry, vacuumed and went for a walk. Then I came back and mended his quilt.

Now we are both ensconced in his living room  having a cold drink and watching Star Trek.

Kris took a herbal recommendation last night. But it did not work to help him sleep. Tonight will be another try along with some herbal tea.

Almost everything in the apartment is run off Kris's phone or by Alexa. Takes some getting used to, but it really helps him out right now.

Providing the weather behaves I will be heading home tomorrow. Then probably back up on Friday of next week.

Everybody have a wonderful day.

God bless.

Thursday Tidbits

Yesterday I headed out to do some shopping, both for our home and Kris. All I can say is my bills were extremely high. Strange as most of what I bought was on special. I have noticed that the sale prices now are very close to what the regular price used to be. I shudder to think what the regular price now is.

I spent time sewing over the last couple of days and managed to get a pair of easy elastic waist, wide legged, knit pants finished off this morning. One cut out project completed and another pulled out to work on when I get home again. I am hoping this means that my sewing mojo is back for a bit. I was getting slightly worried that I wasn't feeling the urge to get things completed. Once I have a few more projects done I will share pictures with you all.

I am a little concerned about the weather for Friday. Everything I have looked at says up to 10 cm of snow for Regina. I packed a few extra items just in case I have to stay longer, and will be asking one of the ladies at Bible Study tonight if she could fill in for me at Mass on Sunday if I don't manage to get home.

I baked a cake to take part to Kris, and today I made some mini doughnuts to take as well. Last time we spoke he talked about ordering some Jelly Bellies (a type of jelly bean) from Amazon. I even added some on sale chocolate to what I purchased for him. Hopefully he won't be ordering candy online again any time soon.

Bible study tonight so supper will be started shortly in order that I can get everything done before I have to leave

I am bringing my tablet with me so hopefully I will be able to do some blogging while there. The laptop is going to stay home this time. It is a bit large once in the case to lug up 4 flights of stairs.

Everybody have a wonderful day.

God bless.

Thrifty Tuesday

It has been a quiet day on the old homestead. I have been busy getting things completed in order to get up to Kris's on Friday (keeping my fingers crossed for good weather).

Thrifty moves for this week have been using items up. Food and non-food items are disappearing from my freezer and stashes.

Instead of buying cards I have been using my Cricut to make cards using up cardstock and paper from my stash.

I completed two infinity scarves from the scraps of leftover knit fabric.

I think they turned out pretty well.

I mended a pair of pants and darned a few socks as well.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Menu Monday

Wow March already, time flies by. I suppose the excitement and worry during the month of February had a great deal to do with the whole time flying by thing.

I seem to have a bit more time now that Kris is back in his apartment (though I will be traveling up to Regina on Friday to spend a day and night with him) and am slowly managing to get caught up on the little things around the old homestead.

Don't worry I managed to catch up on some larger scale items as well.

On to the menus for the week.

Sunday

This was roast chicken with the remainders frozen in bags to be used later on in the week and month. I served it with roasted potatoes, and roasted carrots.

Monday

A bag of leftover ham will be used to fashion a meal. I am thinking Ham Pasties so I can use up some puff pastry and have a couple of pasties left for a meal on Wednesday.

Tuesday

Taking a package of the leftover chicken from Sunday and trying something new.

Wednesday

Using up the leftover ham pasties. I will make a salad to go along with them.

Thursday

Since I need to be at the church fairly early today to help set up for bible study I am pulling some Lazy Cabbage Rolls from the freezer for our meal.

Friday

I will be in Regina this evening so I will leave instructions on Harvey having fish sticks (don't care for them, but he loves them) and fries (will buy a bag of frozen fries so he does not have to make his own). I wonder if he will follow directions.....

Saturday

I should be back today and if Harvey did not eat the fish sticks we will have them tonight. If he did I will make hotdogs and serve them with some coleslaw.

Sunday

Beef roast, roasted potatoes, roasted carrots and onions, as well as a tossed salad.

Everybody have a wonderful day.

God bless.

Sunday Ramblings

The First Sunday of Lent is almost over, and I have been trying to add some spiritual learning and giving to my daily routine. I am following a daily Lenten program by the Augustine's and am really enjoying it. There is a 3 minute video by Dr. Tim Grey, and then a question or task to ponder. It is causing me to stretch in ways that I never thought I would.

I spoke to Kris today and he is doing well, or at least he says he is doing well. Since the weather took a turn today (snowy, blowing and cold) I sure hope that Friday is decent. Think by that time he will want to get out of the house for a bit, and be more than ready for me to visit for a day and spend the night. He got to take the dressing off his surgical wound today and even have a seated shower (still no weight allowed on that leg).

We also spoke to Kurt tonight and he seems much more like his old self. I think whatever was troubling him has passed by. Now he is just wondering about his taking the students on their Easter trip..... Unless this Covid-19 disappears I have a feeling the trip will be cancelled.

The coming week will be one where I try and get caught up (almost done that, just a few minor things to do). I want to get some sewing done, and learn to use my Cricut a bit more. While I made some Sympathy cards (my sister-in-law lost her Father) and they turned out not too badly, I realize I need lots more practice using it. I had actually forgotten how it worked for awhile.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.
