Frugal Friday

So as the end of the week draws nearer I thought I would fill you all in on the frugal happenings around the old homestead.

1.  Some over ripe bananas were made into banana bread.

2.  Socks were once again darned and those that were in no shape to be darned were cut into rings to use to tie plants up.

3.  Windows were opened to allow a cooling breeze on those really warm days.

4.  Now that the weather has changed the windows are closed, and drapes wide open to get any solar heat from the sun/light as is possible. Keeps the furnace from turning on.

5.  Because the weather changed as many plants as possible have been brought in the house. The rest have been covered to keep any frost off if we get some. No way do I want to have to replace all my plants.

6.  Kris grew us some eggplant from seed in his little green house. He will bring them home with him.

Turns out Kris will not be home this weekend. Instead he will be home on Wednesday (or perhaps even Tuesday he was slightly difficult to understand). It seems his apartment building has an infestation of cockroaches once again. Even though these Canadian species do not get as big as the ones in some areas they are big pests in the apartments. So, once again he needs to remove everything from his kitchen in readiness for spraying. Then since he needs to be out of the apartment, he figures he may as well come home. Weather should be better and perhaps he and his Dad can go fishing.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  1. That's a great tip on using old socks for plant ties, Jackie, so thank you for that. Have a great weekend x

  2. That bread looks wonderful!! Mine usually is okay but it never tastes to me the way Mom's did.
I can't believe the change in weather, don't send it this way please. :)

  3. Sorry to hear about the infestation at Kris' apartment block. It is nice that he'll be able to come home for a few days.

Great idea about the socks! I'm hoping to plant on Monday but the forecast is for near freezing temps again on Tuesday and Wednesday...sigh, will I ever get them in the containers?

  4. What a wonderful idea about the use for old socks, Jackie! I usually just give them to hubby and he uses them in his workshop... but now I think I'll put back the next couple for myself. :) Enjoy your time with Kris, whenever that happens. Ugh... cockroaches. The trouble with sharing a building with many others. Not everybody's idea of cleanliness is the same. ~Andrea xoxo

  5. Beautiful looking bread. I am glad you are seeing your son, albeit an awful cockroach reason. Sending virtual hugs to you
