We had a bit of a storm here this morning, at times the snow and wind made it impossible to see down the hill into the valley across the street. I believe we actually got more than was being forecast.
Harvey went out and shut the door to the shelter. I asked him to plug in the car before shutting and zipping the door. The temperatures are supposed to plummet starting tomorrow night and since I won't be using the vehicle it and the power cord does not turn on unless it falls below -18 I won't worry about using power.
So what thrifty things have I been up to over the past week.
I mended a couple of seams, and used up some bobbin threads doing so.
Cut up the pj bottoms Harvey ripped into rags to use around the house.
Did my bill paying online, now nothing needs to be done in that area until the 15th of next month.
Made up my grocery/shopping list using the fliers for next week.
Cleaned and organized all the cupboards in the kitchen. I need to go through all my baking pans. See if Kris can use any before I take them to be donated.
Using appliances to do my cooking more.
Planning to have a big cooking spree this coming weekend. I would like to have some ready meals in the freezer. Since I will be making Sweet and Sour Ribs and using the oven, this makes sense. I will use less power, things will be portioned out, and I will have used things up before they spoil or get freezer burn.
Found some free online patterns that might help use up more of those bits and bobs of yarn.
Everybody have a wonderful evening.
God bless.
I admire your tenacity on the frugal living front Jackie. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good week for you, Jackie. I checked out the online ads too, not a lot of loss leaders right now, but I’m hopeful that will change soon. 😊
ReplyDeleteJackie, you are so faithful to the frugal lifestyle I'd like to know how did you decide that frugality was "your thing?" Was it how you were raised or did something significant happen along the way?
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. That is cold Jackie! I love your cooking spree plan. I like to do the same. We had 2 snow days, so I didn't get much done.
ReplyDeleteWe had some snow again yesterday which put a damper on our planned 'Christmas' get-together with our son and his family. Now we have to wait for him to wrangle another day off (he's a chef and days off are very rare).
ReplyDeleteApartment life means we don't have too many bills to pay but those that we do are on automatic debit (with the exception of the credit cards) so we don't have to worry about them. I call the bank once a month and pay the cc's - one of the results of the covid thing is that the credit union now appreciates telephone banking rather than in-person. Works for me!
I'm fortunate that my garage is insulated, as I haven't had to plug in my car for many years - except at work, or when I visit my daughter.
ReplyDeleteWe had a bit of freezing rain yesterday after the snow fall of about 3-4 inches. Then the winds picked up! I shovelled yesterday but will likely to do so again today because it's supposed to drop to -28C tonight. I don't want to be shovelling when the daytime highs only reach -20C.
I need to do a sort out of my entire house...hopefully I'll get that started in the next few weeks.
