Thursday Tidbits

Blogger is not allowing me to post a picture, not sure if I like this new set up at all. I will try once I finish this post, perhaps in an edit.

Things are pretty much the same on the old homestead. I am continuing with my walks every day. I change directions most days just to see something new. I may take a drive down to the park and walk through there some morning. I am a bit worried about ticks and mosquitoes though. Don't need to be bitten anymore than necessary.

Kris is having a bit of pain getting in and out of his vehicle. I told him that twisting his hips is probably not the best for his break and to perhaps take it a bit easy for awhile. I also told him I would come up on the 23 and stay overnight (perhaps for a couple of nights) to get things cleaned up again. Harvey also wants me to go to Costco. There are a few things I could easily pick up. I won't go overboard. At least I hope not. Must remember to make a Costco list up and make sure I have a mask.

The weather has improved, it is not windy, the sun is shining and the weather has warmed up considerably. Probably a good thing for my herbs as some were starting to look a bit stunted, especially my basil.

This new normal is beginning to get to me. Physical distancing can be hard to do when you know someone needs a hug. I am being very careful as there are only a few people on the surgical wait list before me. I don't want to get sick and have to put off my surgery. I have waited a long time and want this done before the next wave of Covid-19 hits (as it more than likely will).

Facebook is full of disgruntled relatives and friends. I spend more time hiding posts than I do reading them. Those posts just make me want to shake people as I have said before.

Harvey has gone fishing a couple of times. Hasn't caught anything worth bringing home but at least he is out in the fresh air.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Thrifty Tuesday

The past week has seen a very few thrifty moves on the old homestead.

I went through all my stored yarn and found lots that is suitable for sock making. So I brought it all upstairs to try and use up during this sock knitting month. Should be able to replace many of the pairs that became too worn to darn any more.

I hemmed a skirt that the hem was falling down on as well.

I used an old sheet for backing on the outside quilt that I finally got finished. Now just to make two more for our sons to use outside as well.

Very little went to waste in the food department. I could still manage to improve in this area as things seem to get away from me at times (especially when Harvey pushes containers to the back of the shelf).

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Menu Monday

I am trying hard to get back into the swing of making regular posts. Even when I am feeling blah and like there is really nothing exciting happening. So I am going to post my weekly menu.

Monday

Mushroom smothered pork chops, rice and a salad (I was going to make asparagus, but think I will save that for the stir fry tomorrow).

Tuesday

We will be having some type of pork for the third night. I plan on using up the leftover pork in a stir fry (will put some asparagus in here as well as the usual stir fry veggies), Served over the leftover rice.

Wednesday

Soup and sandwiches. Thinking a package of the oriental soup mix I have along with some salmon salad sandwiches.

Thursday

Clean out the fridge. Pretty sure there will be stir fry leftover.

Friday

Tuna Pasta Salad. I think it is time to start my main dish salads and this is a fav of ours.

Saturday

Smoked beef sausages, potatoes, and salad.

Sunday

Roast beef, potatoes, and roast carrots.

Tonight I hope to get a bit of baking done. I am planning on a Chocolate Zucchini cake, and perhaps some more Rhubarb Bars. This should help with our sweet tooth for the week.

Everybody have a wonderful day.

God bless.

Sunday Ramblings and A Rally

Today my city held a Black Lives Matter protest/rally and I have never been so proud. We had a great turn out, and I am going to share some pictures that a photographer shared on Facebook. He happens to be a friend of our youngest son. Byron does wonderful work.

Just a few pictures. What really surprised me is how many young people showed up. It give me great hope for the future.

Now on to something that is bothering me today. I have been visiting a blog for a number of months over the past year, and now this blog is no longer available for me to read. It is only open to invited readers. I know I did not agree with her last post, but people can disagree and still remain friends or blogging buddies I thought. Guess I was wrong. I have noticed more and more blogs switching to invited readers only and have often wondered why the bloggers do so. I think I might now have the answer to that.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Saturday Roundup

I decided that perhaps the only way I would get out of my funk was to try and get a few smaller projects completed. Perhaps doing something other than thinking and walking would help.

The first project I undertook this week was cutting out masks so that once sewn the four of us would have enough for 8 days. Meaning they would only have to be washed once a week instead of every second day.

Voila, a stack of thirty masks ready to be sewn next week. This pattern is slightly different in that it has a pocket to place a filter in. I will also need to make a prototype as the pattern calls for ties and we would much rather have elastic.

I did finally finish the denim quilt for outside. No picture of that as I did an envelope type quilt and I really think the finished quilt is not quite right. Okay to use outside, but not something I would show with pride. I also took it out last night to cover my legs as I did a bit of star gazing.... It has rained all day and now said quilt is soaking wet. It will be hung on the lines tomorrow.

I have a habit of piling up my knitting to weave in the ends of the yarn. I had a stack of 5 prayer shawls made over the past 5 months that needed that done.

All  done now and they are ready to drop off at the church once the office opens.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Catching Up

I am amazed at how long it has been since I last posted. Sorry if I worried anyone, time just seemed to slip right on by.

I have managed to get my flowers planted and do a great deal of baking to take up to Kris's the next time I went on the 24th of May.

I came home to a very sick kitty. We watched Shania over the weekend, hoping, beyond hope that things would improve. After having her in the family for 20 years I was hoping for a few more years of cat cuddles and affection. Monday morning when there was very little improvement I called the vet. Our sweet girl was held in Harvey's arms as she breathed her last. I just could not ask that she be put to sleep.

We brought her home and she is buried under our cherry trees.

Later that evening I learned that an old and dear friend had left us as well. William had struggled with cancer for a number of years and things just got worse each year. With Covid-19 going on and all the rules, we did not get to say goodbye.

I think that I had a small bout of depression happening after that. Not being able to see our oldest son for months, two very hard deaths, and just plain tired of the rules and regulations. It actually got to be that I would only do what was necessary to keep the house reasonably clean and the two of us fed.

I didn't even want to sew, knit or do anything in the least creative. I am slowly getting bac my joy of life, though there are those days where all I want to do is sit in my chair and cry. Hopefully the worst is over now and I can get back to my normal every day boring life.

Thank you to all who were concerned. It is wonderful to know that the blogging world worries when someone disappears without notice.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

MIA

I have been missing in action over the past few weeks. Actually longer than I thought. I am dropping in tonight to let you all know there is nothing physically wrong with me. Just a bunch of family things happened all at once.

I will start posting again tomorrow and let all of you know what has been going on.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.
