Saturday Roundup

Sorry I haven't  been posting more, or visiting all of you as much as I should be. Just using the phone is a bit of a pain, that takes me twice as long to get things done.

It has been a relatively quiet week. Mostly just working around the house, realizing that next month I will need to frugal my heart out, and use what I have for meals and crafts for Christmas. What with the water heater quiting, and the necessary tires for Harv's  truck to make it safe to drive and an over abundance of grocery purchases due to the holiday, we were over budget by a great deal.

This month we have to pay the house insurance and that went up almost $200.00. Guess we are paying for those that had damage in that last hail storm. I do know that there was hundreds of thousands of dollars of damage here. We had none though.

I did my batch cooking today and I can see why people like it. Today was just meals using ground beef, next week I will spend a day making soups and later on some casseroles using up bags of leftovers in the fridge freezer. I am hoping to cut back on cooking times and the use of the big oven. Most of what I made can be warmed up on the stove top or the toaster oven.

So, what did I make today?

I made 3 containers of meaty spaghetti sauce, a container of taco meat, 3 trays of stuffed pasta shells, 2 meatloaves, 3 trays of mushroom meatballs, and 3 containers of chili as well as enough for our supper tonight.

A great start on filling the freezer for days that I don't  want to spend all afternoon cooking.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  1. You had a very successful day of batch cooking. You'll easily make up for being over budget with all of those meals. (I've been told that my comments appear as No Reply. I'm not sure why as I have my email address checked in my profile. Sorry if this causes any inconvenience!)

  5. Resident Chef batch cooks pots of soup and fills the freezer every fall so we have meals to fall back on should either of us succumb to any sort of bug over the winter. It's nice to know we have an assortment of soups to choose from.

  6. You definitely got ahead with your batch cooking. When you are busy working on Christmas gifts and other projects, it will be lovely not to have to think of, or prepare a meal. Well done!

  7. I sure hope you get to feeling better soon. When you hurt it is hard to do much.
Your batch cooking looks yummy! Very wise and it will be tasty later on. I think I have everything I need for all the upcoming holidays which is good. No need for special shopping for that.
    Take care.

  8. I used to do batch cooking when I had a big freezer and more mouths to feed. In 2020 there were some electrical grid blackouts ( although we never had any because our electricity comes from the city and not the state) we started to get nervous about losing everything. Plus the freezer was 25 years old, and not efficient so we got rid of it.
I do miss having a freezer and we’re considering buying a small one. We do have a 4 yr old refrigerator in the garage with a freezer. It’s just not big enough. And we have since bought a generator, just in case!

Your sauces look soooooo good. I’m always attracted to red sauces. Yum
