Thrifty and Frugal
I will answer questions re Cabbage Bread, dental costs and others that have arisen this week. Tonight is for thrifty and frugal living.
Not a completely frugal week, but with Christmas arriving in just three weeks, we are getting close to the wire. There has still be thrifty and frugal things happening on the Phillips homestead.
1. Tried my darndest to combine trips and errands. Not totally achieved, but did my best and that is all that counts.
2. Using up all leftovers in other meals and keeping my fridge shelves fairly clean.
3. Once again have used the downstairs clotheslines as much as possible, and washing full loads.
4. Shopping at home to use up what I have in my various stashes. Making so many gifts is saving me lots of cash.
5. Our extra insurance paid for over half of the antibiotic that Harvey needed for his infection. Always a very good thing.
6. Saved many a plastic bag to be used when our Grandcat is visiting for kitty litter patrol.
7. Have a few socks that I will be darning tomorrow.
Prices are still going up and I am going to figure out new ways to save, even though as of right now we are just fine. With tariffs being talked about I know the economy is going to take a bit of a nose drive and perhaps our various accounts will as well.
They are also predicting that food costs will be rising even higher. Due to the lower Canadian dollar, and climate change. I think we will be growing a bit of a bigger garden and I will shop more than the two stores I usually do. Mind you when you only have three grocery stores prices do not fluctuate as much between stores as they do in bigger centers with 14 or more places vying for your grocery dollars.
Everybody have a wonderful evening.
God bless.
Funny you mentioned darning some socks. Yesterday I noticed a whole in the toe of my sock and guess what? I thought of you!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I will darn it! Lol
I think we are in for rising prices and perhaps shortages but it is all very unpredictable right now. Good for you for tightening your spending in advance.
ReplyDeleteOur food costs, our power & our rates are all set to make extraordinary increases over the next couple of months Jackie. It is just endless. Like you I am trying to make many christmas gifts from my stash. xx
ReplyDeleteI'm shopping my stash as much as I can and right now I've turned my attention to knitting some hats for donation. Used up some small leftover yarn balls to make 24" granny squares for donating to the animal shelter. Feels good to use 'stuff' up!
ReplyDeleteWe shopped the closeout store this week to save money on groceries, which we did. I had to take a couple of turkeys from our freezer upstairs and put them in the downstairs freezer to make room for what we bought up here. I hope and pray the grocery store prices don’t get much higher. I know time will tell. That is great about the extra insurance paying for Harvey’s medicine. I hope he is doing better.
ReplyDeleteI hear you on the grocery store standardized prices. Except for the basics, I tend to buy sale items only. Here in our small town we have a choice of Co-op and a local Independent store. Neither are known for low prices.
