Tuesday Tidbits

Or should I say "The Great Mitten Knitting Caper".

It took me most of the month to get these mittens done and I would like to get another 25 done, but I am waiting a month to start. Too many other projects waiting, plus getting the things done outside that need to be done so we can enjoy our time outside.

I promised you all a picture so here they all are in their knitted glory.

Today I packaged them up in bags according to size, and yesterday I started a blanket for another of Kurt's friends. Continued knitting that today rather than start sewing. Mainly because I had to take our vehicle in for a service, changing over from the winter tires, and had no idea how long that would take. Boy has that gotten expensive. I think that next time the wipers need replacing we should do it ourselves. We could probably save over $50.00 that way.

I have used quite a few partial and orphan skeins/balls of yarn and will hopefully use up more come the next 25 pairs of mittens. I really love that the teachers at Kurt's school feel comfortable to ask him if I would be willing to do this for them. Yes, I knit prayer shawls (the church has enough to last for quite awhile now) and knit for other members of the family, but this asking somehow warms my heart.

Tomorrow I start sewing as well as washing out plant pots and maybe moving my clothing around (though I could conceivably start that tonight). Temperatures are staying well above freezing and I now feel comfortable getting those summer clothes out.

Harvey rototilled part of the garden and plans on planting the potatoes tomorrow. He has already planted radish as they seem to grow better in cooler weather.

I downloaded some free books onto my Kobo ereader, and I think I may download a couple more today.

Life is pretty good right now, Kurt's stalker/doxxer is in jail and still has to face a few more criminal charges in Ontario, so other than various Neo-Nazi's taking exception to what he blogs or tweets about, his life is pretty steady as well. Mind you the lies they like to spread get kind of on my nerves at times and I want to go all Mama Bear on them, but know that would just make matters very much worse.

Off to get the table set and supper (that leftover kind of Tex Mex meal warmed up) started. Will be starting to visit you all after that until supper is ready.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Saturday Roundup

It has been a week of trying to use things up, and we actually managed to do so.

Harvey made a bird feeder (another is in the works for Orioles this time around) and a Hummingbird house. All were made with things he had in his workroom, or in the wood box outside.

First off the bird feeder....

I should say he had to purchase some plexi-glass but that will be used for many more projects.

Next up the Hummingbird house. This was made from a medium sized branch from our woodshed. He should be able to make a couple more from that branch (well at least one more). He wants to hang three from our tree in the backyard by our deck.

I have already been told that the flowers on my deck need to be attractive to Hummers....

Me, well I have been pulling fabric and cutting it out. So far this is what I have done. Some of the shorts and tops are double cut (meaning there are two different sewing tasks). These will be going into the project bags tonight. I still have a few more items and pieces of fabric I need to use up.

I also did some baking to try and use up a few things in the chest freezer. Trying to get it ready for spring pickings and the fall harvest.

I did have a bit of a mix-up today. I forgot to take the leftover pork out to make stir fry. However, I do have leftover Sloppy Joe mix so that will be used up and I will make the stir fry tomorrow for supper. Because of the mix-up, though I also got to use up the remaining cabbage and made a slaw.

So how are all of you doing using things up?

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Tuesday Tidbits

The end of another month and I finished entering budget numbers and filing the paperwork.

We were under budget once again, but not by much. In fact I have a feeling that Harvey hid some receipts on me. Not much I can do about that though.

I am going to see if I can somehow cut a bit more off some of our spending. Mind you with the dental work I need to go through and another trip to Regina to get the results of my tests from the cancer specialist, this could be a bit of a problem. The cutting might just have to wait until April.

I finished one altar cloth and after I find a coordinating purple the second one should be quickly finished. I made a real boo-boo and didn't get enough fabric for the length needed. I just kept thinking of width. Oh well, I will do much better with the red when I manage to get it.

I pulled all the fabric for some spring and summer clothing. One of my goals for this month is to get all the patterns cut. Trying some new top patterns this time around.

Harvey made a Hummingbird house. He used a 3 inch or so in circumference branch from our woodpile. Took him all of about an hour to get it done. I have a feeling he will make a few more to hang in the tree in the backyard by the deck. I will take a photo of it and the bird feeder and post them tomorrow.

While the weather has been pretty nice the last few days but according to the long term forecast we are going to be getting a good dose of winter once again. I will be glad to see spring arrive.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Tuesday Tidbits

Nothing much happening around here. Cutting strips, tying strips, knitting in the evenings. Things are moving along slowly, but at least they are moving.

I went to Walmart this morning, and I am now wondering how on earth we will manage to stay within budget. Prices look to have risen once again. I did manage to pick up my supplements on sale, as well as some coffee. Found some inexpensive salt, and mayo was on sale as well. Still there were lots of items that we could not do without, so they were purchased with an eye to stretching them as far as possible. Still this shop was quite depressing when compared to the one at the grocery last week.

I have been trying to get more room on my kitchen counters and asked Harvey to make me a shelf for under the cupboard. I wanted to put my Google Nest and bar code scanner on it. He made it a bit larger than I expected and I believe that I have managed to get a few other items off the countertop and up. Created more room in front and since Hubby put the espresso machine away, there seems to be more room yet.

He was very frugal or thrifty and made it with items already in his workroom.

I will probably tweak the set up a little, but so far it gave me room to make a salad without moving things around too much. Now perhaps I could talk him into making something similar for the sewing/craft room....

Now for the question...Is blogger acting strange for anyone else today?

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.
