Lovely Weather, Working On The House

So my challenge over the next few weeks is to get the house spring cleaned. This olden body is having trouble keeping going. Today I managed the bathroom and hallway. Tomorrow I plan on getting the spare bedroom done, and our room as well. Then I will take Sunday off and just get ready for the next week. Monday I will work on the living room, and Tuesday the dining room. Wednesday will be a baking and cooking day. Thursday I will work on the stairwell to the basement. Friday, Saturday and Sunday I will be busy at church and visiting with Kris. Hoping to get anything not completed done the week of the 21st.

Then I will move outside and get things cleaned up out there. Lots of small sticks to pick up, stones to pull out of the front yard, and a clothesline to clean. I might even get the furniture set up on the deck by the end of the month.

Rising costs are another challenge I am going to meet head on. There always seems to be something that jumps in price, so to meet that I have been looking up bean and lentil meals. Time to work on eating a bit less meat, and planning a garden that helps cover prices that are getting ridiculous. I do love me a challenge. One thing I have noticed is we are having a bit more waste for some reason. So in order to combat this after having a couple of meals from something I am going to freeze most of the leftovers just leaving a bit for a lunch or two. Then perhaps in a few weeks I could pull out a smorg type meal.

I haven't really done much shopping at either of our two Dollar type stores, but I went to see if I could find some replacement spice jars and was very surprised at the items we can get at a really reduced price. I will be shopping those a bit more often. Perhaps even for some food items. Our stores here in Saskatchewan are not like the stores in the U.S. There is no fresh or frozen items and many a time the dates of use by are way out.

While some of this is necessary (our investments are really taking a beating), I think I can make this fun and something Harvey can get behind as well. Must get him involved or my ideas will probably fail.

Off to visit you all as supper is cooking in the oven.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  1. Oh my, the sticks in our yard that need to be picked up are unreal. But, it’s that time of year and I’m happy for this warm weather. Spring cleaning sounds good to me.

  2. You've mastered the "eating an elephant" concept -- a few bites at a time! That is the best way to approach a big clean.

I do believe we can rise to the challenge of responsible consumption with the bumpy road ahead. I have taken to freezing half of what I make if it's not something that are defined portions. It helps a lot because I know that what I make this week, will save me a day next week. Keep it up!

  3. We try to eat a lot less meat these days, partly due to cost and partly due to the discomfort of eating other creatures.

  5. Boy you are a busy 🐝. I have a lot of cooking to do today for our Seder meal tonight with the family.
Wouldn’t you know it, we need a battery in the van - and the prices are high. Don’t know if they’ve always been that high or what. That will get done on Monday. It’s always something! Have a blessed weekend, Jackie.

  6. Goodness, you are keeping very busy. My daughter and I have been doing some reorganizing and cleaning, but our schedule is much less strenuous than yours.
Won't it be nice to get outdoors soon?

  7. You have a plan and that is half the battle. My/our plan would never be to eat less meat. It is the most important part of our meals and the other stuff is just filler. The costs are ridiculous but I believe it is so good for our bodies that I won't cut back.

  8. Your Spring cleaning challenge seems very intense. I know you want to get things done but please pace yourself so you dont end up with pulled muscles, or worse.

  9. I've never done spring cleaning per se and instead seem to do that job in January. My mother always wanted to start the year off being clean so I guess that's filtered down to me.
