Thrifty and Frugal Thursdays

 Thrifty and Frugal

We are in a heat wave (LOL). Just under freezing by single digits. Vehicle was started, thanks to CAA and it is at the dealership now to try and diagnose the problem. Keeping my fingers crossed that the repair is an inexpensive one.

So what frugal and thrifty things have been happening on the Phillips homestead.

1.  Doing all the regular frugal things that I do every week. Lights turned off, clothes hung on lines downstairs, making my own yogurt, using up all that I possibly can.

2.  Walked to get the mail today.

3.  Made my grocery list using the sale flyers. More Canadian produce or produce from other countries is being introduced in my Co-op grocery.

4.  Following my monthly menu to make the most of the meals I have planned.

5.  Put a patch on Harvey's winter coat where he melted it on the snow blower.

6.  Decluttered some items from both my closet and Harvey's closet.

7.  Using a dishwasher tablet container now that it is empty as a little garbage can for threads, yarn and such by my chair.

8.  Planning my challenge to use up those items in the freezer basket for at least the first week of March, probably longer if I can stretch things out.

9.  As usual, paying bills online to save stamps, time and fuel.

10.  Still using appliances to do most of my cooking, though the range top is being used.

Pictures of projects and what I have been up to this week coming tomorrow.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  1. For years I’ve been particular when I shop for produce/fruit. I buy all my produce grown in California. Once I picked up some garlic and it was grown in another state and I put it back. I was always taught that we buy as local as we can due to freshness. Same with my meat. I now buy it from a local butcher here. Excellent quality is worth more. Not to mention it feels good to support our local economy. With the exception of a few canned vegetables - to use in recipes such as canned tomatoes. or tomato paste.

My son received a Christmas gift of Omaha steaks from his in-laws. He asked me if I wanted a couple and to me it just sounded gross. It’s probably pumped with preservatives to ship it - nope I’m really finicky when it comes to that.

Not feeling well the last few days sure takes it toll on what to eat. Things I planned don’t sound good when I’m not feeling well. Ice cream usually fixes that! Can’t wait for the photos - take care.

  2. I hope that warmer weather heads East soon! Husband's and snowblowers. Gotta love that they do it, but they're always doing some sort of damage while they are at it...

  3. I’m sure the warmer weather feels good. Sounds like a good and thrifty week for you. I reuse those types of containers for garbage too. I like to use cottage cheese containers for wet garbage so I can toss them and not have the garbage bags leak.

  4. Glad to hear the vehicle started and I hope the dealership is able to determine why it didn't.
Hooray, a warm up! I hope it lasts.

  5. You've given me an idea! Reading about using the dishwasher tab container made me remember that the RC emptied his big Coffeemate container and I could use that (no dishwasher here) beside my living room chair. Thank you!
Very glad that your car started with the help of CAA (they're wonderful!) and now I hope it's not a really expensive fix.

  6. It was so beautiful here yesterday. I got outside to sweep in various spots & then went for a 2 mile walk. I couldn't resist the nice weather. We are lucky in that our area is responsible for a large majority of produce - we're very near what's called the "Salad bowl" of the west coast & our temperature is moderate year round for growing. Unless you want something pretty exotic, it's likely from a nearby area. (Hawaii Planner)

  7. Car repair bills can be expensive, or did you say the vehicle was under warranty?

  8. All those little things add up my dear. I am happy that it is getting warmer there.
