I think from this you can see why our license plates say "In the Land of the Living Skies". It is also the reason I picked the name of my blog.
Today I attended a meeting for our Church Deanry area. Looking at all the people around the table I suddenly realised that the Church as I know it is changing. We are all aging and so far none of the younger people are stepping forward to take up leadership positions. I shudder to think what will become of us a few years down the road. I already juggle too many hats in my church community and was hoping to hand off a few in the next year or so.
We are doing some stewardship things in our parish to try and get some fresh faces involved, but so far nothing has been achieved. Today I suddenly realised that if I want new and exciting ideas, it may just be that I have to go out and beat the bushes, talk to the youngsters and get their input. I have a Parish Council meeting this week and plan on bringing up my idea. I know our priest will jump on board, it is the others that I am a bit concerned about!
Well off to visit all of you now. Everybody have a wonderful evening. God bless.
Jackie,
ReplyDeleteThe photo is awesome. I have always wanted to visit the prairies and this makes that desire all the more prominent. Thank you for sharing.
It seems it's always the same people who take leadership roles at church and in other groups. Mom's church has really changed since some of the elders have retired from their positions. It's a medium sized church and they don't even have Sunday School anymore. Very discouraging and no Sunday or Wednesday night services. Prayer meeting Thursday morning and Sunday is church. That's about it. It seems such a shame.
Take care, my friend. I'm glad you enjoyed the vintage photo I posted.
Blessings,
Mary
OH~~ Jackie this picture takes my breath away!! Jackie I will pray for your church, you can only do so much. Like you said you already to so many things. Your church is so blessed, but like I said I wil pray for other people to help out and start stepping up so that you don't have to do so much.
ReplyDeleteBlessings my friend,
Ginger

What a beautiful sunset that is indeed! Good luck on presenting your thoughts to the Church. I'm sure they will see it as a brilliant idea and a great way to get more people involved.
ReplyDeleteJackie the sunset is absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for sharing a little bit of your 'neck of the woods' with us. Just lovely!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Jackie,
ReplyDeleteThat picture is such an awesome picture of GOD's true beauty. "THANK YOU" for sharing it with us. Makes me want to move where you live at now. LOL. Don't know if I could handle the Cold Winter's up there or not. LOL. I do hope that the younger generation will step up to the plate and start helping out. AFter all, they are our leaders of tomorrow. All we can do is pray for them to do GOD'S work and try to encourage them as well. Take caer my friend and have a great day. May GOD BLess you and yours. Also, "HAPPY ST.PATRICK'S DAY"!!!!
Love,
Karen H.
Jackie, it's Kindhearted from FL. Just wanted to say I can truly relate to your comments on church community participation. My parish is struggling with this issue. Us "older girls" are doing so much, we are tired, and need to cut back--also to be able to devote more time to personal prayer and our relationships with Jesus. We understand the young families have their hands full, but the the face of volunteerism at church has changed tremendously. Thanks for reminding me that I need to pray about this. God will provide! Your friend, Mary
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing sunset photo Jackie! Your blog name is perfect - with skies like this I can see why you chose it :-)
