Saturday Roundup

As is usual lately the week has sped by. Sometimes I almost wish that things would slow down just a tad.

This week has been much the same as other weeks during this pandemic. I wear my mask when I am around others, only visit with those I know are fully vaccinated, and even those visits are kept to a minimum.

I have been working on crafts, but really have nothing to show for it. I had to pull back my knitting once again and start over. Hopefully third time is a charm. Mind you I have gone to an even simpler pattern this third time.

So far I haven't seen any empty shelves, but more and more I am hearing from some I trust (and really crazy things from the conspiracy theorists) that this could in fact be a problem in the near future. Sure am glad that whatever happens I will be prepared for many weeks, meals could become a bit monotonous but we could probably go for a couple of months with what we have.

Still being prepared is more than just having food. It is having the means to cook the food, staying warm, and having enjoyment in life as well. As long as I have crafts to do, books to read, and DVD's for entertainment I will be happy.

The shopping for two weeks at a time seems to be going not too badly. I ran out of milk on the last day, so I have bought a bit more this time. I found that I would like the occasional milk base dessert (pudding) every so often.

The old homestead has been readied for winter. The yard is ready for to sleep, leaves are off all the trees and one more going over with the lawn mower should pick all up.

As far as a loom goes I really have no room for a big one. I would like to get one that would make rugs about 2 or 3 feet wide, but about 4 or 6 feet long or table runners. One that would either sit in front of my favourite chair, or perhaps one that would be horizontal and could be set up on my table. Leaning towards one for in front of my chair though. Good ones are a fairly high price, but I want something decent that will last for a very long time.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Frugal Friday

The weather was very nice today. Sunny, warmish and a very gentle breeze. Perfect day for a couple of walks and for shopping.

Here are my Frugal 5 for this week.

1.  My first 2 week shopping trip went very well. So I am hoping for the same results this time around. I managed to save $27.26 on sale items and with coupons another $7.98. Not too shabby at all.

2.  Drapes open to take advantage of the sunshine and whatever solar heat it produces.

3.  Three loads of clothing on the lines down in the laundry room. I washed clothes as usual and always use a cold water rinse.

4.  Cut up leftover knit fabric scraps into strips for the rug (run out of t-shirt strips except for a few bundles left. I definitely need more and getting rid of the small scraps from other knitting projects is recycling at its best.

5.  Finally sold the tire rims for the price we were asking. Cleared space before the snow falls and made back a bit of cash.

May as well make it my Frugal Six....

6.  Put $100.00 of my leftover allowance of $110.00 in my savings envelop. Keeping my fingers crossed that soon I will have enough to buy a loom.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Thursday Tidbits

I am a bit late posting tonight, but I joined a Zoom dance meeting. I have always talked about adding another layer of exercise to my routine and will now be dancing for 1/2 hour every Thursday night. The time flew by and I really enjoyed myself. I am looking forward to next Thursday.

We are half way through the Bible study and people are becoming a bit more relaxed and are starting to ask questions. This time the session went the full 90 minutes. Mind you Father was there and gave answers to the harder questions.

I have been knitting on the blanket and think I just might have purchased enough yarn, but to make sure when I go shopping tomorrow I will purchase one more skein. Extra can always be used up making more scarves.

We checked into some new health insurance and the cost would be about $200.00 more a year and perhaps not give us as good coverage as we get now.

I think I have figured out what and how much to purchase in the way of groceries for two weeks. I might just buy another 2 liters of milk so I can make pudding or other types of cooking that call for milk. I did purchase enough for us to drink (last of the jug was used at supper tonight) but not enough to make the occasional pudding and we do love our pudding in this house.

The leftover chicken meal I made was wonderful, Harvey really liked it. So I thought I would share the recipe with you all.

This is from the Pillsbury Cookbook.

Easy-on-the Cook Chicken Divan

16 oz. package frozen broccoli

2 cups diced cooked leftover chicken

1 can cream of chicken soup

1/2 cup mayo

1 tsp. lemon juice

1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1/2 cup soft bread crumbs

2 tbsp. melted butter or margarine

Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 12X8 baking dish. Cook broccoli as directed and drain well. Arrange the broccoli in the prepared dish. Layer chicken over top. Mix together the soup, mayo and lemon juice until well blended. Spread over the chicken. Sprinkle with cheese. In small bowl combine the bread crumbs and melted butter. Toss to coat. Sprinkle this over top of the cheese. Bake 30-35 minutes or until thoroughly heated.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Thrifty Tuesday

The weather has not been very nice here the past few days, so I have been doing a great deal of walking inside the house. Not as fun, but at least I am keeping it thrifty as far as exercise.

Watched a few series on Disney+. Our youngest gave us a subscription for Christmas. Boy is there lots to choose from.

Reading free downloaded books on my ereader.

Using up leftovers which keeps the fridge fairly cleared out.

Using a bit less meat in casseroles.

Only drove once this past week to Bible study.

Collected some more twist ties.

Baked bread twice this week.

Cutting up some knit fabric scraps for the t-shirt rug.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Menu Monday

Time for me to post my weekly menu. Milk is getting lower than I thought it would, but we do have orange juice that can be drank for supper if need be. Guess I was out a tiny bit on the amount of milk I need to purchase for two weeks, keeping fingers crossed though.

Monday

Turkey veg noodle soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. I used some stock from the freezer and a small bag of turkey meat from the fridge freezer.

Tuesday

Leftover roast chicken made into a casserole. Just have to find a recipe the peaks my interest.

Wednesday

Sweet and Sour Ribs, rice and broccoli.

Thursday

This will either be the leftover chicken casserole, or hot dogs, fries, and coleslaw.

Friday

Tuna patties, mashed potatoes, and brown beans from the freezer downstairs.

Saturday

Leftover ribs and rice as well as peas.

Sunday

Pulling out some leftover ham and making a casserole. More than likely Harvey's favourite.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Sunday Ramblings

Just a quick post today as I promised you all some pictures of finished projects.

Today has been more or less a day of playing catch up and working on a few things. Of course the weather has worked perfectly in allowing this to occur. Cold, rain one minute, snow the next, who would even want to be out in that type of weather. Certainly not me and I am so happy that most outside jobs have been completed for the winter.

So what did I do today?

First off I decided to get at least 10 Christmas cards made this morning.

Just a simple horse, but in looking at these now I wish I would have used red card stock. Oh well the pearl/glittery white does look a bit like snow. I hope to get a few more of a different pattern done over the next week. Another 10 or 12 will give me enough for special people this Christmas.

Next I worked in the ends of yarn on the scarves. The grey ones are not showing up very well at all. I just used a simple moss stitch as we call this in Canada, I think it has another name in the United States.

Then it was time to clip threads on the quilt. Here it is finished and ready to bundle up in a Christmas bag.

One gift down and a number to go. Hope I manage to get everything completed.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Frugal Friday

I am finding it very hard to believe that another full week has gone by since my last Frugal Friday post. Where are the days going????

I must admit that I did not get the binding started on the quilt, but will do so tomorrow. I helped Harvey level the fridge which consisted of me removing items from the interior and on top, and standing on the pry bar so he could get the leveling wheels turning. Problem, those wheels would just not turn so now Hwe have small blocks of wood under it. Then I got to load his arms with all his tools (still trying to figure out why he needed so many, most of which he did not use) and finally restore the fridge items to the now level fridge. Used up a bit of my quilting time.

So what frugal things have been happening around here.

1.  Hung up as much as I possibly could on the lines downstairs.

2.  Used up all those leftover meals from the freezer in the fridge.

3.  Only drove once this week.

4.  Walked almost every day for exercise, and while I did not always reach 10K steps, did the best that I could.

5.  Happily with the drapes open during the day and then closed when the sun goes down the furnace has not cut in until 9 or 10 at night. It has been below freezing so we really need the furnace on right now.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Thursday Tidbits

As winter gets closer and closer I am so thankful for my warm home. They had a news report on homelessness and how hard it is for those living in tents. One lady said that she finally got a place to move into and is so looking forward to it.

I don't think some of us really realize how lucky we are. Our frugal habits enable us to live wonderful lives. While we may not have the "best" we have everything we need. A roof over our heads, clothing for our bodies, food for the table and family that we love and love us in return. We are rich when compared to others.

My frugal habits enabled us to pay off our home 15 years before it would have been paid off if we just paid what was owed on the mortgage. At that time my husband still was not on board but has finally became more frugal as time has passed. Sometimes now I think he might almost verge on being cheap in certain areas. Still I feel that between us we have managed to keep a very lovely life during retirement.

I did the leading of my lesson today at the Bible study. It went not too badly, however it ended early once again. I guess one can ask only a certain number of times if anyone has any questions or anything they wish to share that struck them. I was told I did a wonderful job though so that makes me very happy.

Once home I finished sandwiching the quilt. I look at the quilts that many of you make and wonder if I will ever be that proficient. Mine are very simple in comparison, though I have in mind something totally different for the next one I make. Picture of the finished quilt and those scarves will come hopefully on Saturday.

I started the knitted blanket last night, and had trouble keeping the number of stitches that were necessary (or at least the number they said I should have...could it be a pattern error?), so I pulled it back and started a pattern that I have used countless times. That one is going better and I will go back to work on it after this post.

I am loving how dark it gets so very early. I close the drapes, light some candles, and turn on the fake fireplace (no heat, just the light). Snuggle into my chair and knit for an hour or so. This is probably the thing I like the best about the colder months of the year.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Thrifty Tuesday

The weather is definitely changing once again. This time getting colder, so the rush is on to finish cleaning up the yard, garden, and get the house ready for winter's visit.

Thrifty happenings this week.

Harvey dug up my glad bulbs now I will go through them and keep the big ones.

We took advantage of the free weekend at the dump to remove items from the yard.

I hemmed a dress, a pair of pants, fixed a seam on another nightgown, darned a pair of socks, and cut up some socks that were beyond repair we can use them to tie up plants next spring.

Leftovers were used for a couple of meals.

The last of the grey yarn was used to fashion another scarf.

I even managed to save some more twist ties and elastics.

I have a bagful of bread clips that I am going to drop off at one of our schools, they use them to help with counting in the younger grades. Even though I bake my own bread most times when the sons are home I purchase from our Co-op bakery. If I didn't I would be making bread every day.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Menu Monday

The beginning of a new week and I am still using up leftovers from when the boys were here. I really did cook way too much, and I have to kind of space them out a bit.

Here is the menu for the week with a few nights of leftovers snuck in.

Monday

Roasted Chicken Legs (Back attached), creamed potatoes (used up the last of the very small potatoes and more of the cream). We had leftover salads for our veggie.

Tuesday

Leftover smoked hamburgers, fries and broccoli.

Wednesday

Leftover Stir Fry and Rice.

Thursday

Leftover Baked Spaghetti, and coleslaw.

Friday

Salmon casserole and leftover coleslaw.

Saturday

Steak, mashed potatoes, mixed veggies.

Sunday

Roast Chicken, roasted potatoes, roasted carrots.

I think this will be an excellent week of clearing out the fridge freezer. There are still I few leftovers like roast beef, ham, and turkey but they are easily used in recipes that make a new meal.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Sunday Ramblings

I thought I would start off with how I am doing with my goals this month.

1.  Work on t-shirt rug.  I have worked a bit on this.

2.  Make Christmas cards.  Nope but hopefully this week.

3.  Cut out pieces for Kurt's Christmas quilt.  Done.

4.  Finish my quilt.  I don't think this will happen but I have worked on hand quilting this month.

5.  Finish Kurt's quilt.  Working on getting this done.

6.  Knit 2 Secret Santa Scarves.  Finished and actually have knit 4

and working on number 5.

7.  Finish off harvesting the garden and cleaning off the deck.  Pretty much done will finish tomorrow.

8.  Remove spring/summer clothes and put in the fall/winter clothes.  Done.

9.  Repot lemon trees.  Done.

10. Cut more strips from cut up old t-shirts and leftover scraps of knit fabric.  Nope.

And if there is time

11. Work on counted cross stitch.  Nope.

12. Make dryer balls.  Tried but used a pretreated wool yarn so things did not work. I will perhaps order the correct yarn online later this month.

Today has been quiet and I have managed to get a few things completed. I did my Bible study homework, which means I can work on my leadership session for this week. I really don't like speaking in front of adults so I will write everything down and practice like mad.

I did some work on Kurt's quilt and I discovered I will not be able to make it as long as I had hoped. Yet that means things will be easier to quilt and finish.

I filled the bird feeder late last night and those greedy sparrows have almost emptied it. I think I will look into getting a feeder for the front yard and perhaps some suet feeders. I do love seeing all the birds in the yard.

The bunny seems to have disappeared from our yard. I thought it could be hiding under our deck, but Harvey cleaned under it and nothing. At least she/he stayed healthy and happy in our yard until being able to look after it's self.

As the days go by I am beginning to realize that some people will never change. Our Covid Delta cases keep going up in our little section of Saskatchewan. Anti-whatever's keep posting weird things, and those of us that follow directions are still following directions.

While we have had no shortages so far on things in the grocery store I will continue to stock up and look for bargains where I can. I will also keep on with using up all that I can, be it food, or craft supplies, clothing, or anything else that occupies a space in my life.

I am saving points on my scanning, but it is going to take me a very long time to reach the point where I can use them to purchase a generator.... I still feel that will be an enormous help in running things around here if the power goes out.

I plan on stocking up on propane, candles, batteries, and various other camping items. I will also continue to make quilts so if the power goes out we can stay toasty warm.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Frugal Friday

After two days of rain, snow and wind today was sunny, decently warm, and no precipitation at all.

So what frugal things have I been up to.

Well today I cooked up the remaining eggplants. More parma for the freezer and heck Harvey got so excited when he smelt it cooking supper plans changed from pancakes to eggplant.

I did my 2 week shopping (getting much quicker at it as well) and managed to save $37.41. Still prices have risen quickly and sale prices are not as good as months and years past.

I bought the yarn to make Kurt's friend a knitted blanket. After I finish the scarf I am working on I will start that.

I put $7.60 in the change jars. That includes a dime I found on my walk one day.

I put $30.00 in my savings envelope. I wish it could have been more.

I got a free desk calendar and one for my purse in the mail.

We both got free flu shots at the pharmacy.

I got a free salad dressing at the grocery store.

We used up all leftovers this week.

Paid all bills online.

I hope you all had a lovely frugal week.

The other great thing is that the head office of the bank fixed their error. Whew.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Thursday Tidbits

The day has been overcast and rainy once again. Harvey said we got 18mm as of 6 pm tonight. However the temperature is dropping and pretty soon this lovely rain will more than likely change to the white stuff. Much too early (well probably 2 weeks too early for our first snow fall) and we usually see this closer to Halloween.

Bible study ended very early today, it didn't even last an hour. That meant I could help clean up before heading home to get Harvey for our appointment. Kind of nice, but very strange. I wonder how long my session will take. I kind of want to do the leading thing properly, but when someone cuts a 90 minute meeting down to 45 minutes that makes a person wonder if too much time is being allowed for the whole thing. Well I will do my best that is all that can be asked of me.

We are having a slight problem with our bank right now. It seems that they took out the cheques that we gave the boys twice. I called the bank about it and was told head office was working on it and if the money was not back in our account by the end of 2 weeks we should let them know again. I am actually hoping it is back by tomorrow. However I will transfer cash from savings so that bills can be paid and I can rest a bit easier. I was also told any fees would be given back to us. Sure hope that is true.

For the first time ever Harvey and I got our flu jabs. My arm is sore and I bled a bit, which in my case is perfectly normal. Harvey of course didn't bleed, and still does not have a sore arm.

Other than those bits of excitement, this day has been pretty much a regular Thursday. I did some housework, worked on pinning the quilt blocks which will be sewn at some point tomorrow.

I have made my grocery list, and am slowly but surely getting the hang of only shopping every two weeks. I believe I will be buying more frozen veggies though and the fresh produce will be used up the first week. Fruit wise I will be buying more canned as well. It isn't as healthy for you, but will make a nice change from apples and oranges over the next few months.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Has Winter Arrived?

Well, what a change in the weather. We have gone from above average temperatures, in fact a few days of record breaking high, to what could be considered fall temperatures, to today.

Today we are well below normal and are having a mix of rain and snow. The ground is still fairly warm so the snow is not sticking, but as most of my family says...We are not ready for this yet.

Harvey has been working on getting things winterized in the yard, but there is still plenty to do. The garden refuse that did not fit in the garbage bin needs to be taken to the dump, the lights need to be brought in and more of the ornaments put away.

Raking need to take place under the deck and the garden should be worked up (it was so dry that it was as hard as rock).

Inside, I need to make some new draft dodgers, get some curtains made for the hall (or bought), and heavier blankets need to be put on the beds. At least I managed to get our winter clothes out and the summer things put away.

I started work on Kurt's Christmas quilt.

It seems a bit bright to me, but I am pretty sure he will really like it. Now I need to look for a quilt or a knitted blanket for Kris that involves cats. He does love his cat Eiko so I will continue to search for ideas.

Got my hair cut today, took all of about 15 minutes and cost over $40.00. Ouch. Still it needs to be done or I look like a shaggy dog.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Thrifty Tuesday

It has been a fairly thrifty week, even with Kurt and Kris being home for a number of days. I managed to send them back with decent care packages and hopefully bigger care packages when they come home at Christmas. Kris says he will come home for a bit next month. I should have a list of tech things for him to do.

So what thrifty things have I been up to.

1.  Picked what remained in the garden.

2.  Made tomato sauce using the slow cooker, which gave me time to make the birthday cake and pies for the weekend.

3.  Used up more orphan balls of yarn knitting scarves.

4.  Instead of setting up the sewing machine I worked on quilting by hand.

5.  Cut the fabric to make Kurt's Christmas quilt (could be enough left to make him some pot holders or some coasters).

6.  Used up some of the fabric stash to make slashing for Kurt's quilt.

7.  Packaged and froze leftovers from meals. I will be able to have a few no cook meals this week. Just pull and warm up. Love it and there is no waste.

8.  Changed out the spring/summer clothes for heavier winter clothing. Put aside a few items that need hemming, or repairs.

9.  Repaired the neckline on one night gown.

10. Saved elastics that were on veggie bundles.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Menu Monday

Kurt and Kris left this morning for their respective homes. We always celebrate their birthdays on the Saturday of the Thanksgiving weekend. Kris is born on the 16th of this month and Kurt on the 17th. Cake is the dessert that night and this years was a big hit. Of course I didn't get a picture in the mad rush to set the table, have our meal and sing Happy Birthday. I might try to replicate it later this month.

Any how we are now back to eating more regular fare.

Monday

Stuffed peppers that I pulled out of the freezer.

Tuesday

Turkey Tetrazzini and the leftover salad.

Wednesday

Potato Leek Soup. I am pulling that out of the freezer as well.

Thursday

Leftover Turkey Tetrazzini and salad.

Friday

Pancakes.

Saturday

Leftover ham made into a casserole. Think I will make some coleslaw as a side.

Sunday

Roast beef, roasted turnip, roasted carrots. The remains of the coleslaw.

I am exhausted right now so I plan on crawling into the tub for a hot soak and then right to bed. Promise to catch up with you all tomorrow.

Everyone have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Mid Week Thoughts

My mind has been racing today. Thoughts appearing and disappearing faster than I can grasp them. Every once in awhile this happens to me. Usually when I am excited, and overcome with things that need to be done.

Believe me this always happens before Kris and Kurt come home. I have lists galore and they both will be arriving on Friday night. Tomorrow is the Bible Study and so the afternoon will be almost a total loss of time that I could be baking, or getting the garden in. I will however go shopping right after the study and perhaps get a bit of baking done in the evening.

However none of my various projects will be worked on unless I manage to get a great deal completed of the usual Thursday household tasks. I hope to get some unfinished things done as well. Since the day time temperatures will be dropping quite a bit, the garden needs to be harvested and perhaps some processing will be done as well. I made tomato sauce with my slow cooker a couple of days ago and if I manage it I should be able to get another batch started in the morning and finished once I get home.

Supper will be quick as I can just heat the ham in the microwave and add a few sides (heck I can boil potatoes in the morning and whip up potato salad).

Too many thoughts and probably not enough time to get them all completed.

Do any of you have this problem?

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Thrifty Tuesday

I have made it through the first week without shopping, that is a great thrifty move considering what I spent. I do know that I will need to go and get milk, and salad fixings just to make it through Kurt and Kris being home.

I got some free Christmas Cards in the mail. There was also a pair of socks, a pen, and a pad of paper with my name on it. Now this was sent by the Canadian Cancer Society and they are asking for a donation. I always donate anyway so getting a few items for relatively little cost is awesome.

I discovered that the wool yarn I was using to make the dryer balls is not suitable...Need to find some yarn that is suitable. However this yarn will not go to waste, I will unwind the balls and use them to knit mitts. We are always losing mitts around here.

I darned a pair of socks, fixed the neckline on a nightgown, and sewed a seam on Harvey's boxers.

I have decided to hand quilt my quilt. It will take awhile but I will be saving electricity and a bit of earthy language on my part.

I was asked how I was making my dryer balls and thought I should maybe let you all know.

I need to use yarn that is 100% wool and not treated so that it can be washed. I wound the yarn in balls of about 3 to 4 inches in size. Worked the loose end in with a yarn needle so it was hidden inside the balls (that is going to be fun to find to unwind said balls). Placed the balls in a stocking tying them off in between each ball with some twine I had saved.

I then threw the stocking in the washer and using hot water put them through a wash cycle. Once they were finished in there I threw them in the dryer.

Took them out hoping they were felted into lovely balls... That is when I discovered my mistaken thought that all wool is equal. They were not even close to be felted.

My next stock up trip to the big city will be me looking for the right type of wool.

To say I am disappointed is an understatement, but I learned something new.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Menu Monday

Ahh, the beginning of a new week and the start to getting ready for our Thanksgiving. As far as I know our sons will be home for at least a few days during the weekend. One will more than likely arrive late Friday night, the other probably early Saturday.

I have already did some changes to the weekly menu so that I can clear things out of the fridge and the crispers.

Monday

Roast Pork (supposed to have had this yesterday but needed to clear out the spaghetti and meat sauce). I roasted carrots and rutabaga (rather than potatoes) in the roaster. Leftover pork has been bagged and placed in the fridge freezer. I will be using this up later this week.

Tuesday

There is a container of stew in the fridge freezer. I am going to warm it up and serve it with either homemade bread or perhaps some biscuits.

Wednesday

Leftover pork roast made into a stir fry. That should clean out a bit of the crispers. Leftovers will be frozen to be eaten later.

Thursday

Leftover ham with scalloped potatoes. Any leftovers will very likely be eaten by one of the sons or Harvey for lunches.

Friday

Soup and egg salad sandwiches.

Saturday

BBQ hamburgers, tinfoil potatoes, mushrooms and coleslaw. Though I could make creamed potatoes as the boys love them and I have quite a few small potatoes to use up.

Sunday

Roast Turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, stuffing, gravy, tossed salad, pickles, and likely pumpkin pie with whipped cream for dessert.

So that's the plan and I need to stick with it to get all used up and the fridge cleaned out for Thanksgiving.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Sunday Ramblings

We are still having extremely beautiful weather and from the looks of the forecast this should continue well into next week and our Thanksgiving.

Mass is still sparsely attended. I went today, but Harvey stayed home, with his heart condition and the uptick in Covid cases here in our little corner, I would rather him stay home and feel safe. I picked a spot well away from others, and made sure my mask was firmly in place for the entire time. I also had my hand sanitizer at the ready. It was nice to wave at those I haven't seen in awhile.

This is one of the months in the year that we say the Rosary before Mass. I have learned how to recite the prayer, but I find that when recited in this setting, it is said much too quickly with very little time for reflection. Much rather take my time and say it at home if I so choose. So because of that I try and time my arrival for close to the end. Perhaps that is wrong of me, but listening to people rush through something does not give me peace.

I spent a bit of time in my prayer corner saying prayers for those that I know are ill, or lonely, or just because I think they could use a prayer or two.

The rest of my day was spent enjoying the peace and quiet, working on the rug, doing some choosing of strips for the next time I work on the rug. Running out of colours, but hopefully will be adding to the selection very soon.

I hope you all had a wonderfully restful day and I wish you all a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Saturday Roundup and A Bit of Catching Up (Yet Again).

I did the budget entries yesterday and am quite happy with the results. While as usual I was over in the grocery department, we were under budget in all other areas. Under total budget by a great deal as well. Makes me very happy.

We had a meeting with our financial person at the bank and Harvey has moved his RRSP into a RIFF. We don't have to touch this until the new year and she put it in my name so the tax hit will be slightly lower. I then moved around some of the money in one of my GIC's and told her that very soon we will more than likely be moving cash into our Tax Free Savings Accounts. Better the money in our pockets than the governments.

Worked on a few of the monthly project goals and and a bit of extra cleaning was done. Garden harvested except for the peppers and eggplant, which I hope to get done in the upcoming week.

I had a meeting last night at the church about the Bible Study we are holding. Something very strange happened, when the time came for us to choose what sessions we wished to lead I gave my choice and one of the gentlemen (he is someone I have known for many years as he was a teacher in my husbands hometown) made a huge sigh, rolled his eyes and kind of threw his phone on the table. He also muttered something under his breath, but with a mask on it was hard to make it out. Say what... A man who is probably older than my husband making such a fuss. I was shocked.

So there is the roundup of the weeks highlights.

So now to catch up. Since we had that meeting last night I missed my Frugal Friday post.

1.  All washing on the outside lines.

2.  Turned up the air conditioner as there is no need to keep the house as cool as we do during the very hot summer months.

3.  Opened the windows at night, that cools the house off nicely for most of the morning.

4.  Started my biweekly shopping this week. It went not too badly. However spending such a long time in stores is kind of scary. I hope to cut the shopping time down bit by bit.

5.  Using up small balls of yarn, scraps of fabric, and all leftovers.

6.  Put $55.00 in my savings envelope.

Next on my catching up are the project and other goals I have for this month.

1.  Work on t-shirt rug.

2.  Make Christmas cards.

3.  Cut out pieces for Kurt's Christmas quilt.

4.  Finish my quilt.

5.  Finish Kurt's quilt.

6.  Knit 2 Secret Santa Scarves.

7.  Finish off harvesting the garden and cleaning off the deck.

8.  Remove spring/summer clothes and put in the fall/winter clothes.

9.  Repot lemon trees.

10. Cut more strips from cut up old t-shirts and leftover scraps of knit fabric.

And if there is time

11. Work on counted cross stitch.

12. Make dryer balls.

So that brings me up to date with what is going on around the old homestead.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.
