Thrifty and Frugal
I have really been trying to cut back on spending so far this year. Mainly because the trip we have planned for August is a bit more expensive than we thought it would be. Still I am not going to try and reclaim that money. Rather I will save where and how I can.
Frugal happenings around the old homestead have been more or less the usual for what I have been doing.
I am continuing to use up all that I can and not purchasing things I do not need.
I actually managed to extend my shopping for groceries by four days, which is awesome. Still prices are rising and getting great deals are few and far between.
Making what I can from scratch, finding simple joys in making those things I need and saving for home improvements and the garden (what we call the backyard here) are making my life very enjoyable. Keeping things as simple as I possibly can.
Today I went shopping, and of course picked up my $10.00 for the pantry. I think next time it will be some canned fruit.
I managed to get 4 cans each of tuna and mushrooms to add to the collection.
Everybody have a wonderful evening.
God bless.

Tuna and mushrooms are always in my pantry, too. Both can be used in so many things. Our little store had butter for 2.49 pp and cheese for 3.00 pp. I didn’t really need either but i bought some, anyway. Who knows when/if those prices will ever be seen, again. Plus, they both freeze beautifully.
ReplyDeleteDear Jackie, you are doing well at using up what you have. 😀
ReplyDeleteThe prices are the same here in UK, on my shopping list is only ever 'meat', I chose what we will have via the prices, if it's on sale we get it. Our chicken breast are huge so we are now trimming them further, we get a couple extra meals out of a pack of ten.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a great idea to set aside a tiny bit of the budget for the pantry. My son shopped this week and I laughed that he bought dry chickpeas and canned soups. I figure what isn't used at my house we'll move with him and get his pantry started.
ReplyDeleteI need to clean out the pantry and may do that today!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you said that you thought the price of food was still increasing, as I was beginning to think it was only me thinking that. I have found prices jumping again in January. Things that were $1.99 in December have jumped up to $2.25, or $2.50. I cheap out the clearance sections in stores, even more nowadays........
ReplyDeleteWe always check out the marked-down section at the grocery store and often we'll buy the bags of 'imperfect' fruit and veg's. I know that's simply a way the grocery chains have of making more profit on produce they wouldn't be able to sell, but if it saves me a little money I don't care what they look like.
