Thrifty and Frugal
Another week of thrifty and frugal habits here on the old homestead.
1. The weather was beautiful, but very warm this past week, so we have had to have the air conditioning on. However, we have it set at a reasonable temperature instead of the freezing cold we used to have it. Having it set a bit higher should save us a bit on electrical costs.
2. Using appliances to cook this week so as to keep the house a bit cooler.
3. Darned a couple of pairs of socks.
4. Working outside in the cool of the morning planting and gathering.
5. Watered with rain barrel water.
6. Mended a small hole in a t-shirt.
7. Reading free material on my ereader and the computer.
8. Watching free tv using CBC Gem on the computer.
9. Baked hamburger buns when the weather was cooler.
10. Finished the shopping list using flyers and after an inventory of the pantry, fridge and freezer.
11. All clothing was dried on the lines outside, finally.
12. Only running the dishwasher when it is completely full.
I hope you all have had a thrifty and frugal week.
Everybody have a wonderful evening.
God bless.
Dear Jackie, I haven't needed to use my air conditioner yet, as thankfully it has been comfortable here in Montreal so far. I do have it up and ready, since a couple of weeks because waiting until the heat 🥵 starts is not a good time to set it up.
ReplyDeleteSo it is ready, I am just very grateful 🙏 I haven't needed to put it on yet.
You have been busy, thanks for sharing your life here, I enjoy your posts.
I have always lived in an apartment and have never had or used a dishwasher, I am the dishwasher. LOL
But if I did have one I would do the same thing as you are doing to conserve energy.
Sounds like a good week.
ReplyDeleteIt has been warmer here for a while - I have only turned on AC a couple times for about 2 hours each - just to get rid of humidity. Get a good cross breeze from windows and fans.
Despite May being budget busting grocery and household month of spending, I had very few basics left and relatively no freezer neat ir veg. Ill shop clearance and sales the rest of the month, but spent nearly 50% of my target in one shop on basics and foundational. My spending month starts on the 27th, so this is for June. I'm not worried for myself but my kids usgers will be tight and I feel for families with kids home. Im draing shades earlier, watching how I use AC, avoiding driving and jyst in general thinking before spending. I gifted my son a cleaning supply starter for his new place. Woah...high, but he'll be set for a long time.
ReplyDeleteSounds like some good wins! My unexpected win was getting to charge my car for free for four hours at work today. The electric charging approval finally went through. - Hawaii Planner
ReplyDeleteAll good stuff. At the moment I am using my various appliances when the solar panels are doing their thing so it costs me nothing (apart from the standing charge) xx
ReplyDeleteYou rocked it this week. Well done, you.
