I have just taken another step towards simplifying my life. Most of my bills have been paid online for years which made it much easier to take care of most of our payments, there was one that I hadn't gone paperless on..... Isn't there always one?
I would need to wait until said bill arrived in the mail then go online to the bank app and pay it off. At the end of last month I made the move to paperless. I am loving it and can print off said bill myself using much less paper for my records. The impetus was the postal strike.
Now all our bills are listed online on and are much easier to track.
My next move towards a simpler life was culling my wardrobe down. I can now fit everything I own in my bedroom closet and the drawers to my bedroom suite. There will be more culling of clothing items happening as I find items I no longer enjoy, do not fit properly, or the style is something off putting.
Decluttering is making more room in my sewing/craft room as well. Since I no longer use the closet for clothing I purchased a set of inexpensive shelves and have put them in there. I have now gotten much of the floor space back (though right now you would not believe that, Christmas gifts and baskets are taking up the cleared space). Those shelves have made it easier to find my batting bits and bobs as well as the pillow stuffing. I also managed to put some yarn on it as well. I truly have way too much yarn.
I plan on continuing with decluttering and downsizing. Especially this winter. If it no longer gives me pleasure or suits our living style it will be gone. I can see a few rather large drop offs of donations. I could probably have a yard sale in the spring, but really I do not want to hang onto things that long.
The next step I am going to take is planting more perennials to see if that will crowd out the weeds in the perennial bed. It might not, but then again it just might. I am also going to plant things that can be easily looked after and yet relatively inexpensive. It could mean me starting a few items from seed or tuber, or rhizome. It would probably be simpler to purchase the plants, but man we found them to be very expensive this year for even fewer items than I have purchased in other years. Time to plan ahead even though we do not have lots of room to put plant starters.
So that is my steps taken or steps that will be taken to have a simpler life. One where I can enjoy the outdoors a bit more and one where I can slow down and do the things I love.
Pretty sure there will be more steps and I will probably fall back into old ways every so often, but hopefully there will be more steps forward than backwards.
Everybody have a wonderful evening.
God bless.
Such a great post, dear Jackie ❤️ I love to clean, organize and purge. I am of the mentality that less is more.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing 😊
All my bills are paid online automatically at the first of the month. I do manually check - to make sure or update debit card when it expires. It’s so convenient and a real time saver, Paying bills takes me 5 minutes by checking and then I’m done.
ReplyDeleteThis year I didn’t plant any annuals and just enjoyed the flowers from the perennials. Not that I won’t ever do some annuals but I just didn’t have time and the price of annuals are high. I’d rather pay a few dollars more and enjoy the same plant year after year.
We don’t pay a lot of bills online. I’m loathe to use our debit card. One bill took the CC so that worked in our favor.
ReplyDeleteAsk your friends and neighbors about getting some starts when they weed out their flower beds. People usually love to share with other gardeners. I’d share if you were closer.
I think decluttering/purging is good no matter where we live. It's funny how we never think of it when we're young, we think we have all the time in the world.
ReplyDeleteMy husband pays most of the bills online . It is a big time saver. DeCluttering is such a good idea. I tend to want to hold on to all of my clothing even things I have not worn. You are inspiring me to give away some of the clothing I don't wear.
ReplyDeleteI've paid everything that I can by direct debit for years. Far less headaches!
ReplyDeleteYour yard is way bigger than mine, but to help with the weeds get a few black rubber dustbins, ask hubby to pop holes around the side about two inches up, pop into the bins all dropped leaves, by this time next year you will have leaf mulch. I have two bins they shrink down to just over one bin. We do cut up any huge leaves, we use a shredder, but you could use a lawn mower.
ReplyDeleteLife is much easier when you can see what you have.
Online bill paying is a wonderful way to pay bills and is a good money saver as a stamp here in the USA is creeping up and will probably be $1.00 (currently 78 cents) before we know it.
ReplyDeleteI love having less clothes as they are so much easier to put away when they’ve been gone through and gotten rid of those that no longer work for us.
I envy you managing to pare down your clothing to fit it all in your wardrobe and drawers. Wish I could do that, but I find it hard to get rid of old favourites, even if they don't fit anymore. I imagine that getting more organised in your sewing room has made a big difference. I know that having an organised craft space has for me.
ReplyDeleteYAY!!!! Great work you. :-) I've been intentionally dropping 15-20 pounds per year for 4 years now (Today I am at 78.8 total). I had kept just enough clothes over the years of weight gain, that I've only had to purchase jeans, exercise clothes (thrift or Ross stores on the cheap), a few spring/fall tops and some bras. Once I am down by 1 size for 2 weeks, everything in the larger size GOES AWAY! I've been mostly gifting it on our FB Buy-Nothing group although last month I took it to a resale store and got $45 for 11 items.
ReplyDeleteEmpty space is a glorious feeling isn't it???? Cheers to paperless and bill autopay. I "print" to PDF and save bills. Fully paperless here.
Happy Saturday everyone :-)
When we downsized nearly a year ago, we got rid of SO much stuff. It felt incredibly lightening too and I don't think its fair to leave my daughter to deal with everything we leave behind. Will you be able to take cuttings from perennials you already have or split them and maybe friends could help you out with freebies. Take care. Xx
ReplyDeleteLike you I've been using the online option from my bank to pay bills for a number of years. I don't print the bills though but download a copy and save to my computer. Still accessible but less paper.
ReplyDeleteI also have too much yarn and I'm trying to use what I have before I purchase more. We'll, except for the baggy of cotton blend yarn at the thrift store this week. For $2 I couldn't resist.
Good work with the clothing!
You are really doing a great job.
