The storm we are supposed to get today still has not arrived. Well at least the snow and rain haven't. It is however, very windy and the temperature is hovering around freezing.
I was a bit concerned that one of our payments on Harv's Visa had not gone through. At least according to his bill which we printed off so as to be able to pay it off totally once the travel insurance is put on it. He is also going to have a hunk of money back to use on the card the next time we pay.
I used my cash back this month and it paid for my last grocery shop. Love that when it happens. In these tougher economic times every little bit helps.
All through Covid and the years after, the one price I could count on not changing was the cost per pound for bananas. Well when I went shopping almost two weeks ago the cost had risen $0.07 a pound. Now that was quite a shock. An inexpensive (relatively) fruit is no longer quite the buy, and Harvey loves his bananas.
I am hoping that very soon we will be producing not only cherries in our yard, but pears and haskaps. Not sure if we will ever get the mini grape sized kiwi, but I can hope.
I also hope to be able to plant a few more fruit bearing plants. Would love some raspberry bushes, and some saskatoons or even grapes. Grapes would be perfection really.
Just a few new food ideas that will continue to grow each and every year.
Everybody have a wonderful evening.
God bless.

I thought we would get the storm tonight. Hopefully not till tomorrow. I have never grown haskaps. I did grow grapes and know a lot of people who do. They work well. Jean
ReplyDeleteIt's nice that you have enough property so that you can plant fruit trees. We wanted to buy some oranges this morning but put them back when we realized they came from the US. It's a small thing but we try to buy from anywhere else if we can.
ReplyDeleteWe're supposed to get snow which is unusual for us. I'll believe it when I see it. I do hope they are right. It would be so much fun for us.
ReplyDeleteI will always buy bananas. They went up A LOT here last year - about .25 lb. They are back now to what they were previously - so still a decent deal. I feel like they are always my cheapest produce buy.
ReplyDeleteWe grow berries here, sadly n room for any fruit trees
ReplyDeleteWhat are saskatoons? We grow a few different types of berries and they are always useful for making jam or eating with other things.
ReplyDeleteI pay $.20 per pound for bananas in Florida. But I have several banana trees and even a plantain tree too. Are they trees? Plants? IDK, but it is nice.
ReplyDeleteOh, that is so great that your cash back paid for your grocery shop. I love when that happens.

Hope you were able to sort out the issue with Harvey's Visa payment.
ReplyDeleteI cleaned out half of the strawberries in our garden bed last summer as they weren't producing much anymore. I would love to put in raspberries as well. Perhaps after we get the fence replaced. I'm also extending the garden bed with a couple of raised beds.
Bananas are still cheap here but other fruit!!!!! I will not buy fruit until itis under 1.00 a pound.
