Weekly Roundup

I have had a busy week trying to get things in from the garden. I managed to get all the tomatoes picked and into boxes. They are ripening very slowly, but they are ripening. I am hopeful that there will be enough to make one batch of the condensed soup I freeze tomorrow.

Also the freezer is slowly getting organized. I am pulling older items out to use up and make room for the new items I am putting in for the winter.

Some pumpkins have been processed and the puree is frozen. Pretty sure another two will be ready this week so more for the freezer and some to get those pies ready for Thanksgiving.

Been baking buns and bread, trying to stockpile for when our sons are home on the 9th.

Some of the plants have been pulled or cut down on the deck, more from the herb boxes will be done tomorrow morning.

The sewing/craft room is getting more and more organized. I work perhaps 15 minutes a day in there and it is really making a difference. Of course there are things that need to be used and turned into something that can be used in the house or given away. Hence my knitting toques, and as of today I have 13 made and another on my needles.

Embroidery on the other hand has kind of taken a back seat. I can't work on it when the day is dark and we have had a number of those. The days I could have worked on the block have been days I have been removing things from the garden, or processing things from the garden, or even baking.

Grocery shopping on one day, and man things are really increasing in price. I did purchase a few items ($10.00 worth) for the pantry. I actually found canned potatoes finally so picked up a can of those, plus brown sugar, icing sugar and a can of evaporated milk. Doesn't seem like much for $10.00 does it? When I look at some of the items I have bought over the years I am completely shocked at how much things have gone up in price. However yesterday I noticed that our fuel price dropped $0.03 a liter. Not much, but man a welcome sight these days.

I know I promised pictures, but forgot to keep track of all I did this week. Next week for sure.

Please forgive me if I don't get to visit you tonight as I really am not feeling very well. I have developed a really bad headache, and that is causing my stomach to do flip flops.... Not at all what I had thought my day would end.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  1. First, hoping you are feeling better.
You have been one busy lady - my goodness.
I don't know if it is the same there, but our best days for cheaper gas are Tues, Wed, and Thurs. Fri - through Mon. they raise prices. Might be something to notice there as well.
    Take care.

  2. I always use a daylight bulb when doing my cross stitching, my lamp has 3 different shade of light which is handy for times when I don't need the bright light.

  3. Feel better! Seems like you got a lot done this week. I just love your blog. Gives me so much inspiration! I am making my list as we speak! This weekend I have a little running around to do this am, but tomorrow, I will just be relaxing! I am tired! Had the grands all week and I am not as young as I used to be for sure. The little one is a handfull too, lol. But so cute!
But I did manage to 'put up' 25 lbs of flour and about the same in sugar. Still need to get some rice and a few other things and I might survive this winter, lol. In Florida...no snow storms here and thank goodness no hrurricanes this year either. I spent a lovely week with my two sisters and a cousin at the beach week before last and it is just never enough time. Four absolutley lovely sunsets I have ever seen, one for each of us! Shells and feathers too. But, it was good to get home too....

  4. I hope you are feeling better soon and got a good night's rest.
I'll need fuel soon, and am hoping to see a similar drop in price. These days every penny counts.
For my stitching, I purchased a rechargable neck light. They make a huge difference, though like you, I tend to stitch when the natural light is the best.

  5. I am just catching up on your blog posts. Things seem to be increasing in price daily. Hubby managed to fill up the car for $1.80 a litre here in Southern Ontario yesterday, but in some places it's up to $1.92. One thing I do not understand is how it can go up and down multiple times during one week? Makes no sense to me.........

  6. Gosh I don't remember if I made a comment and it's not approved yet or what. I'm afraid this week had other plans for me so I wasn't as productive as I wanted to be. I hope you have an enjoyable weekend.

  10. Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. Hope you're better soon. I need to use up some fruit from our freezer and make more jam or preserve. I might do that today, following your inspiration.

  12. We made our supply of zucchini relish as well as some onion garlic relish so those are tucked away in our small fridge. Some of the zucchini relish will be added to Christmas gifts. Still have to decide on a couple jams to make and I'm toying with making an infused flavoured honey as well.
    Hope you're feeling better.

  13. You seem to be right on top of things. I'm impressed that you can work for 15 minutes in your craft room and walk away to something else. I get too easily hooked in one place and everything else gets set aside.
Hope you are feeling better soon!
