Friday Catch Up

 I thought I would give you a break from the vacation pictures and fill you all in on what we have been trying to catch up on.

We got home to an overgrown garden, which at any other time would have been a blessing. Yet when one has a sore arm it causes a multitude of problems. Meaning I am unable or at least was unable to rest the arm as much as I probably should be doing.

The afternoon we arrived home I notified those lovely neighbours looking after the yard we were home and quickly with Hubby's help watered the plants. 

The next morning it was out into the garden for the two of us. I was out first and picked the peppers, jalapenos, and tomatoes. Harvey came out a bit later and helped me pick the beans. So many beans, so many tomatoes. 

Over the next two days I managed to get all the beans processed and in the freezer and then moved on to the tomatoes. Those are now done as well.

Harvey dug up the potatoes, and the onions. They are now dried and stored for the winter (I do have a couple of pails of potatoes upstairs some of which I will dehydrate slices of probably tomorrow).

Rain arrived late last night and all day today, so I did not get out to pick more peppers, jalapenos and the remainder of the eggplant. Not much eggplant this year so no parma for the freezer. 

I did the budget inserts for the month of August today and we are under budget which really is surprising. Pretty sure I counted lots of September spending (vacation) under last month. Filed all paper work as well. I need to go back and check last month's spending though as something seems slightly off.

One day this week I made my project list and my extra cleaning list for the month. I have kind of cut both back this month due to being away and the stupid injury to my arm. 

So that has been how our time has been spent so far this week. There are a few more appointments I need to make, but I really need to try my best to spend as little as possible over the next few months.

Tuesday Tidbits and Stuff

 

Winter is back once again, wind, snow and cold. I have stuck close to home the last few days, and it is amazing what can be accomplished.

I watched a YouTube channel this morning that had the title "Staying Busy At Home Saves You Money." How true is that!! Mind you cold weather has be doing the same thing. 

Because of the cloud cover I haven't been working on my embroidery as much as I would like, but knitting and weaving are coming along nicely. The first placemat is woven (still on the loom until I finish another three) and I have about 1/4 of the second one done as well. 

I also have about 3" completed on what I hope will be the last blanket for awhile. 

Laundry is done, folded and mostly put away. I just have my ironing to get away now. I did forget to iron the embroidered blocks I have completed, so perhaps I will pull out the iron and ironing board tomorrow and get those done. 

Harvey has his last dental appointment for a bit tomorrow afternoon when he will get his bottom partial plate. I have told him to make an appointment to get the top partial fixed (I think he will need one tooth pulled). May as well get that done with.

Harvey turns 75 this year and with his glaucoma we are a bit worried about his eyesight. Right now everything is stable and so we decided to take a trip. Plans are underway to head to Eastern Canada on a tour of some of the places he has never been to. I get to show him some of my old stomping areas like Toronto, The Thousand Islands, Niagara Falls, and Montreal. Me well I will get to visit a few places I have never been as well. Never been to Ottawa, or Quebec City. We don't want to go much further, like overseas, just in case there are eye problems or other health problems. We sure aren't getting any younger. 

Making these plans have actually excited us during this very long winter.

Tuesday Tidbits and Stuff

 

We got some rain overnight, Harvey says at one point it was really coming down. Saved me having to water plants today, but unless we get more, well I can see me watering tomorrow. 

A fairly quiet day as I decided I really needed to stay home and work around the house. The monthly cleaning of the oven and stove took place as well as the washing of my cleaning rags. Yes I do have enough cleaning rags to last the month. I am of the "Go big, or go home" thinkers (at least in that respect).

It also go really hot and humid today, so staying inside after an early morning walk was the best thing to do. Considering the heat I am thinking staying in and out of it stands to reason. 

My list is almost completed. I will work on mitts this evening as it gets a bit too dark to work much on my weaving project (promise pictures will be in tomorrow's post). I even got my new cutting mat today, so tomorrow I will be trying to get the pieces cut for the next quilt. It won't be sewn until next month, but I can at least be ready to start it right away. 

I also learned something else about weaving with this loom. The books all say you can use any yarn to weave. Not quite true. I did my warp with a rather slippery cotton yarn and find it does not keep it's tension quite as well. Live and learn which is always very good. 

Off to get our supper on the table and then after clean up a visit to those I can't get to right now.

Midweek Blues

 I don't feel very calm right now. In almost exactly three weeks we will be on our cruise. Trying to get as much done as humanly possible which is going sort of okay. 

However the more I do, the more my body tells me I just might be doing too much. I am pretty much one big ache right now. Dandelion salve to be rubbed in tonight.

It rained off and on today, so one would think I had a restful day. Nope, not at all.  There were two items I did not get completed and those were harvesting the garden fully and picking chokecherries. I did get beans picked and frozen, the Eggplant Parma made, herbs dehydrated, some hand sewing, and more decluttering of the sewing/craft room. Pictures to appear on Saturday. Those are up again tomorrow. If the forecasted rain does not fall. 

I do have lots that I could complete inside if trips outside are not available. I have green peppers to dehydrate, a sewing/craft room to continue decluttering (and finding more unfinished projects, oh dear). I could also clean the fridge, stove and oven. Baking a loaf of bread is always a possibility as well. 

There are the fire pit blankets to get done, and work on the knitted child's blanket as well. 

Oh, and I should really write a letter to a friend across the pond. 

No rest for the wicked I guess. 

Off to do some of that knitting and enjoy a well deserved glass of wine.
