Thrifty and Frugal Thursday

 Thrifty and Frugal

Another thrifty and frugal week has passed by. The only perhaps nonfrugal/thrifty thing I did was my shopping this week. Still I only bought the items on my list and the total cost was not as bad as I had anticipated it becoming. I am also very hopeful that I will not be heading out shopping again before the new year.

So here are my thrifty and frugal wins for the week.

1.  Using appliances more for cooking this past week and I will hopefully continue to do so in the coming weeks.

2.  Baking bread and trying to get ahead on this before our sons come home for the holiday.

3.  Used up many of the leftovers in the fridge and will continue to do so.

4.  There were small amounts of jam in jars in the fridge so I made Thumbprint cookies to clear those out.

5.  Making yogurt today which should see me through at least another week. After that is gone it will be toast, oatmeal or muffins until I go shopping in the new year.

6.  Watered plants using saved water.

7.  Found thirty cents on the floor in the basement which was added to the change jars.

8.  Did some tweaking of the menu for when Kurt and Kris arrive a bit earlier than thought. Most of the tweaked recipes will be cooked via electric roaster, top of stove, microwave, or toaster oven. Hopefully saving on the power bill.

9.  We had three lovely sunny days and with the drapes open in the living room the furnace did not cut in as much. This saves on natural gas and electric.

10.  Made some more bathroom cloths from leftover bits of flannel. The edges need to be sewn and will do that tomorrow.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  2. Sounds like a real good frugal week, Jackie. You’re doing so well using up little bits and bobs of items. I love it when I’m able to do that too. I used up the last of a container of Parmesan cheese in our egg bake tonight. Of course I saved the lid to top a mason jar. Three sunny days sounds lovely!

  3. I don't know if it's frugal per se, but we had our 6 month maintenance checkup on the furnace. They'll be back in June for the HVAC. We've been doing well by maintaining the checks yearly which in the long run saves his money. Any little thing that is wrong can be fixed before it's costly. It's always a good feeling knowing we're maintaining these expensive systems that make our life more comfortable.

  4. All wonderful and that the bill for food wasn't as high is even better. Wonderful. Love making non-dairy yoghurt at home. That stuff is crazy costly at the store but not even that for me, it's just no where, and I mean, no where as good as homemade.

  5. A great list here, Jackie. Always reminds me of something I need to do. RIght now I need to go through the downstairs freezer and use up anything getting old. Big rainfall here with a freezing rain warning for overnight. Ugh!

  6. It's been a quiet week here, mostly busy with snow removal. I'll be glad when this weather passes. I'm certain you are looking forward to your boys' visit!

  7. I love how intentional you are with every little detail, especially using up those last bits of jam for thumbprint cookies that's such a clever win. It’s inspiring to see how those small habits, like catching a few sunny days or finding spare change, really add up to a productive week.

  8. I can't think of much extra I did to be frugal this week. Instead I took advantage of a 25% off sale at Mary Maxim and ordered sock yarn. I guess, if you stretch your imagination, that 'could' be classed as being frugal?
