This Will Suit Me Perfectly

Thanks for posting this Juhli. I am a mystery/true crime nut for novels and this challenge will be loads of fun. I can actually get into this one.

The day has passed by and I am not even tired. Can it be that whatever virus or bacteria I managed to pick up has worked its way through my system? I certainly hope so. I do not like feeling so exhausted by midafternoon that I just can not function properly.

Once again my movement towards simplicity has been one of decluttering and organizing. Perhaps more decluttering than organizing, and perhaps more using up than decluttering.

One thing I am beginning to realize is that we collect more "stuff" then we really need or in fact want. Or perhaps that is the problem, at the time the items appeared in our homes we actually wanted them, but didn't need them.

In a way I didn't realize at the time, we were actually trying to keep up with the neighbours... At times I believe we fall back into that mindset. Not as often now, but the urge is still there. One needs to remember that nothing is simple if it adds "stuff" to your life.

Harvey informed me today that he ordered grow lights and I wondered why..... Turns out he was thinking that we could possibly grow our own lettuce, radish and onion during the winter months and save a bit of cash doing so. Kris does this every year and in fact his set up even grows tomatoes and peppers. He says the cost of running the lights is minimal really, so perhaps things will work out and we will manage to save on produce over the those cold winter months. I don't think that is moving towards a simpler life, but perhaps towards a more frugal life. And having Harvey even thinking in a frugal manner is perhaps a big plus. I really think taking him shopping was a major eye opener for him.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.
God bless.

  1. That sounds like a great way to have fresh groceries at home all the time. Good thinking Harvey!

  2. Excellent on growing stuff. Wonderful way to save and have fun.

For me, decluttering is about removing things that are no longer of value or use. One example is a creepy little chair. I have two. One I no longer use. Even though I loved painting it and used the little chair for books for a long time. Now it's time for the chair to go to a new home.

And that i okay. The chair served for quite awhile and no we part ways. My friend already has a similar one in her garden. Soon she'll have two.

Hope you feel all the way 100 percent soon. Cheers, Ivy.

  4. When I was a child most weekends we went for a walk with our parents, these days exercise at the weekend is shopping and buying stuff shops put out that you do not need.

  5. That would be wonderful to have that produce in the middle of winter. I love that Harvey is getting on board with your frugal ways and simplifying your lives.

  6. The grow lights sound like a great idea. I hope it works well for growing in the winter months. I am finally realising that I really don't want to bring more stuff into our house. It is a relief not to now. An occasional craft or other item does slip through, but I am largely just buying food and consumables these days and it feels good.

  7. That does indeed look like a fun challenge.
So glad that you're feeling better - now just take care of yourself and don't overdo and risk a relapse.
Also glad to hear that Harvey has a great plan to grow your own veggies. You'll save the amount spent for the growing system in short order.

  9. Besides the fresh vegetables, I'm thinking nurturing the plants will be a contrast to the winter weather outdoors.
    I do hope you're over the virus/bug.

  10. I use grow lights in the spring when I’m starting tomatoes and anything else. I’ve grown lettuce (and other things) in the winter in my Aerogarden.

  11. Yes I had to take Tony to Walmart so he could see all the items that are double digits now even there. He was shocked but now he knows why I'm complaining and the bills are higher. I think the grow lights are a wonderful idea. It will be a challenge and fun too to get things growing. And in the end a big saving. And I'm pretty sure home grown tomatoes will taste better than any store bought too.
