Today Is Flag Day Here

Today Canada's flag turns 60. I was in I believe Grade 4 when the switch from the Union Jack to the Maple Leaf happened. At that time I just couldn't understand why a new flag was necessary.

Now however I understand perfectly. I love my flag and I love our anthem which has changed over the years to be so much more inclusive.

My little flag banner will be staying up for quite awhile as we go through some difficult times. As Pierre Trudeau said living above an elephant, you feel every movement that elephant makes.

Showing our pride in our country is one way of countering the elephant trying to roll over my homeland.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  1. I printed a flag to put on our door because it's difficult to find flags in the stores at the moment (and that's a good thing!).

  2. American, here. I just wanted you to know that a huge proportion of us hate the situation trump has put us in. The WHOLE world hates him and rightly so! He seems to be trying to burn it all down. I’ve been banned from YT, for the second time, for making unkind comments about him. Frankly, i didn’t think my comments were that bad. And, if they’re TRUE, why am i banned? I’ll be back making nasty comments when the ban is lifted. There are protests on Monday in the US and i will be there. I only have a black and white printer or i’d print out flags of your country, Ukraine and Mexico to hang in my window. Before this is over, i think i’d end up with just about every flag in the world. Except Russia. I wish peace for all of us!

    1. I am so sorry that those of you who hate him (I don't hate, rather dislike him so intensely that it is getting very close to that emotion) are stuck with his tearing apart of your country, and the friendship that has lasted for hundreds of years (at least since 1812) between our two countries. The man is a bear in a china shop destroying everything he touches. I hear talk about him redoing the rose garden again.....

      God bless.

  5. My late grandmother used to wear a silver maple leaf on her necklace and she even owned a Canadian flag.
During WW2, when the Canadians and Americans liberated the Netherlands, there was a Canadian soldier that lived with my grandparents for some time. They kept in touch for many years, and her English even improved a lot because of all the letter writing!
