Thrifty and Frugal Thursday

Thrifty and Frugal

So much name calling and various crazy theories on why the Conservatives lost the Canadian election. While we all probably don't vote the same, calling others names is not bringing the country together. I just hope it stops, and stops soon. I respect those who vote differently than I, and I would hope to get that respect back.

Any way on to the frugal and thrifty things that have been happening around the Phillips homestead.

Really making a big effort to have no food waste. Today instead of the meal we were going to have, I decided it was time to have a fridge smorgasbord and clear out some leftovers. Other leftovers I have been eating for lunches.

Saved more plastic bags to use for kitty litter patrol when the grandcat comes to visit.

Had free coffee a couple of days this week at a friends place.

Saved more twist ties from the garbage. These are used to close frozen veggie bags, and the bags I put my homemade bread in.

Mended a small rip in Harvey's winter coat. Should last him another year or two.

Mended a small tear in a pillowcase that matches our sheet set.

Pulled some more small 4" squares to make another quilt top/flimsy.

Potatoes are planted, and I have a feeling Harvey will be planting radishes very soon.

Planning ways to save money on the garden this year. I planted delphinium seeds but only one seems to have germinated. I hope a couple more do so.

Of course items were hung on the lines downstairs. It has been raining off and on all week so no outside drying as of yet.

Added more small amounts of thread to the cardboard holders to sew on buttons and do small repairs to hems and seams.

Found more large flannelette squares that I can make into tinkle cloths. I am finding this saves a great deal on toilet paper usage.

Went for a few walks for free exercise when it was not raining. Hope to increase the distance and time as the weather improves.

Visited my new doctor today and things went well. I have an appointment for blood work and another appointment for a chest Xray. The Xray is tomorrow, and the blood work is much later this month, unless I go to a walk-in clinic on a Wednesday or Thursday (I hear those are very packed though). Then next week I will make an appointment for a week after the blood tests with the doctor to get the results.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  3. I’m glad your doctor visit went well. I need to make some of those tinkle cloths to save on toilet paper here. I’m working on the no food waste here too and found a bowl of lentil taco meat in the freezer and used that for our dinner tonight. It’s a work in progress, using up and not wasting food.

  4. That’s one of the things I have to do, the blood work. I have the invoice, just keep putting it off.

  5. Hope the test results are what you wish, it's good when the rain finally stops, here we have a mini heatwave, and we are both enjoying it.

  8. So glad to hear you like your new doctor. It's hard enough to find a doctor these days and finding a nice one is a huge bonus.
Frugality for me this week involved digging through my stash and unearthing some rusted fabrics I did many years ago and figuring out a use for them. I managed to use up pretty much all of the smaller pieces and just have one larger piece that I think might be used for the border.

  9. great savings, love you ways. We too are at each others throats in the US and I hate it. This is why a lady never discusses religion or politics. Fear is so much easier to pedal and twice as damaging.
