Thrifty and Frugal
It is really warm in the house today, even with some windows open, however I am refusing to turn the air conditioning on until the furnace stops kicking in at around 3 in the morning. I will open a few more windows in a bit to see if I can lower the temperature a bit before starting supper.
Now what frugal and thrifty things have I been up to this week.
1. Drapes washed and hung on the lines outside to dry.
2. Since Monday was not a nice day, I hung as much of the laundry as possible on the lines in the basement.
3. Used the chicken bones and some drippings saved from the roast chicken to make broth today.
4. Walked a few times this week for frugal exercise.
5. Made some croutons from bread cubes I had saved from the tiny bits of leftover bread.
6. I now have two delphiniums growing to plant out in the perennial bed.
7. Used saved water to water my lemon trees, the delphinium and the cacti.
8. Used up all leftovers in other meals. Usually lunches.
9. Cleaning some jars once empty to use as storage jars.
10. Reading free books on my ereader.
Everybody have a wonderful evening.
God bless.
Can’t you just turn the furnace off? We haven’t used the heat here in over a month or so but the AC did kick on yesterday just once around dinner time.
ReplyDeleteGreat week.
ReplyDeleteLots of good things today. Air conditioning?? Oh my, we got 9C today!!
ReplyDeleteJackie, we are living parallel lives! Except for the lemon tree part (and I am jealous!).
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good frugal week for you. I’m with you on the ac, I’m not ready to turn it on yet.
ReplyDeleteWe had a similar day, cool in the morning and I know I heard the furnace overnight. By mid-afternoon, it had heated up to 23C in the house (29C outside). We won't turn the a/c on until it reaches about 25C indoors.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great week! We are in the glorious place of weather temperature where we don't need heating or cooling - it's my favorite time of the year! - Hawaii Planner
ReplyDeleteOur hasn't fired up in 2 weeks, until this morning. I turned it down to 57 (14ish for you?) and this morning at 4 it kicked on. Frost warning tonight.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a successfully frugal week, Jackie. I'm opening windows and trying to keep the a/c off as well. So far, so good.
ReplyDeleteWe had the a/c on in the car this afternoon but that was only because it's allergy season and opening the windows shouldn't be done lest I end up sneezing for days.
ReplyDeleteOn the frugal front, I'm hoping to use up the remains of a big ball of green crochet cotton doing some 'plants' for my latest landscape.
