Thrifty and Frugal
I am hoping for a really good thrifty and frugal November. Of course I do all the regular things that I do all the time, but I am hoping to find some new ways of saving those pennies.
1. Making doubly sure that lights are turned off in rooms not in use.
2. Asking myself more often is something is a want or a need. The curtains were actually a need as they keep the cold air out of the house. Just one more set to purchase and all windows will be covered with insulating curtains.
3. Looking up new recipes to expand on my winter meal plans. Using more beans and lentils. This will probably mean more batch cooking but that is a very good idea during the cold days of winter.
4. I am back using my cloth wipes again when going to the bathroom and will be making a few more come the new year.
5. Using up leftovers from the fridge freezer as well as the containers of soup I have in there.
6. Still making my own yogurt and for the first time used some of my yogurt to start a new batch. It is the thickest yogurt I have ever made. So will make sure to keep 4 tbsp. to make the next batch.
7. Darned 4 pairs of socks, did some seam repairs and fixed the zipper end on one of my coats (by hand).
8. Put my leftover allowance in the savings envelope.
9. Printed out some free patterns for holiday crafts that I will do in December when I don't want to pull out a machine to work with.
So there are my thrifty and frugal practices for this week.
Everybody have a wonderful evening.
God bless.
Hi Jackie, wow, you have been busy in such a great way, dear friend!
ReplyDeleteGREAT week! I love that you make yogurt. That is something I have never tried yet.
ReplyDeleteWe're facing quite a hefty bill from the endodontist for my husband's tooth even with insurance. Now he has to get a crown at his regular dentist. But it has to be done.
ReplyDeleteI think you are smart to find more ways to save those pennies, Jackie. I’m also hoping for a good and frugal November. I’ll be cutting back a little on Christmas presents this year too. I want to have my extra money in my savings account earning interest instead of invested in physical items if that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteInspiring as ever. I'm going to try to use up some ripe bananas in the freezer and make banana muffins this month. I don't have much spare money to put into savings, but I round up the odd savings account balance where I can each month.
ReplyDeleteYou're always able to find so many ways to be frugal. Insulating curtains are such a great idea!
ReplyDeleteThat's what I do. I make yoghurt (no dairy), from my last yoghurt and so on. If I use it all up and don't have an extra 100ml, then I go to my pills for it but yeah, over and over we make yoghurt and it gets better and better. I love making yoghurt and hopefully never need to buy it again. It's just soooooo easy to make at home.
ReplyDeleteYou always inspire me to do better.
ReplyDeleteManaged to shop my stash for the trims I need for the grandies pillowcases for Christmas. Sadly I didn't have enough yardage for the main parts so had to order that, so I guess I was being partially thrifty.
ReplyDeleteAn initial expense to buy multiple copies of a PJ pattern a few years ago means I have all the sizes I might need to make the grandies PJ's for Christmas right up until they go into adult sizes. It wasn't a thrifty purchase in the beginning but I thank myself now because sewing patterns are ridiculously expensive now.
Yes which are needs and which wants. You do such a great job of untangling them. I need curtains for the very far bedroom and am looking at ones that can cut drafts as it's always the coldest room in the house.
ReplyDeleteJackie, I think you are doing great on simplifying and winterizing.
ReplyDeleteThe yogurt I made last week is the thickest I have ever made and I attributed it to the fact that my starter was plain greek yogurt with live cultures. I bought it because they were out of the regular. For some reason I can only string my yogurt 3 times before I have to buy starter.
I am going to try window quilts in the sunroom this winter. Trying to find the stuff to assemble them at thrift stores, it is taking a minute but I will keep looking.
