Midweek Yet Again

We had a few power flickers last night, but the power stayed on which was a very good thing as with the wind it was very cold. Today has been dark and gloomy, perfect for staying inside cleaning, baking and working on projects. Though I have been kind of scattered about the project part.

Some of the peppers I purchased a week or so ago, were starting to get soft and wrinkled so I chopped them up and put them in the fridge freezer.

Redid my menu plan to use up as much from the fridge freezer as possible before Kurt and Kris come home for Christmas, and I believe I will be hauling some containers out of the chest freezer downstairs to make some room for turkey and a few other items for over the holidays. I just cannot believe how much I have accumulated once again in both of those freezers. Not wasting anything sure adds up.

The book I am reading is titled

minimalism

The Path to an Organized, Stress-free and Decluttered Life by Gwyneth Snow

Now I am not too sure I will totally embrace the concept, but there are definite areas in my life that I will be using some of the ideas in this book. I am about half way through and she keeps stressing that baby steps are what is necessary so as not to fall back on a life of consumerism. It is definitely baby steps happening here at this time. I am starting with the decluttering and working towards the organized.

Part of my decluttering is using up what I already have. I spent good, hard earned cash and just will not give it all away. Especially if it can be used by me to make something to help others or give as gifts.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  1. Glad you didn't lose power. Using up things is so smart and you are right - it cost $, don't waste it. I have been doing the same here lately - with the freezer.
    Stay warm

  2. I'm so glad to hear you didn't lose power and glad you stayed safe and sound at home. I'm with you on the minimalism and just living a more simplified life. I've been working on it for years now. I hope to find time to start writing about my journey again soon. Stay warm!

  4. I love a bag of chopped peppers in the freezer. They become a dish of "Unstuffed Bell Peppers". Super easy because I always have a bag of cooked black beans, ground beef, brown rice and corn in the freezer. Cup of each, can of enchilada sauce and 1.5-2 c shredded cheese and Voila! Heat on stove, pour over peppers, bake 30m and Fabulous meal in an hour!

  5. Thanks for the reminder on the peppers. I have one also getting close to it's end of life. I will cut it and put it in the freezer.

  6. I’m so glad you didn’t lose power from the storm. And it’s great that you’re using your freezer inventory.

  7. I feel the same way about minimalism, in fact, I probably verge on being a maximalist, if I'm honest. I am, however, determined to use up stuff that I have before buying more i.e. fabric, thread, haberdashery, food, toiletries, stationery, etc. etc. and I seem to have lots of all kinds of stuff to use up. I'm glad that I do at the moment, when I'm on a much reduced budget.

  8. I tend toward minimalism but my husband leans the other way, so we compromise the best we can. Sometimes he rubs off on me and vice versa.

  9. Glad to hear the power did not go out. This weather is just crazy. Our forecast is suggesting above freezing temps next Tuesday but the week is supposed to be frigid.
I tend to be a bit more minimalist, especially since I retired, except in the case of yarn. I'm slowing working through my stash. I'm not counting the two containers I found in the RV as I'll use that up when I'm down south (and I didn't buy it).
