Saturday Roundup

It is early in the morning here on the old homestead and our first full day where we are alone in our home. I am hoping to get some catching up around the house done today, as well as catching up online and in a few other areas of our lives.

Kris saw his specialist on Thursday evening (we did not get out of the office until around 8 pm). So we went out for supper after.

While Kris was in the office we went and did his shopping (of course in another store I had no idea of where anything was located) and when we were done, headed back up to the specialists office. Kris was no longer in the waiting room (this was around 6:15) so of course we thought he was in seeing the doctor.

Turns out he was in the clinic downstairs getting xrays (which is/was good) and struggled up for another bit of a wait sitting in a chair beside us.

Great thing is he is healing very well (must follow doctors orders though) and the staples have been removed. The incision is clean, no longer draining and there is no sign of infection. Kris is really happy about that, not so happy with the results of the questions he asked the doctor concerning when he can head back to work, put weight on his leg or drive......

He has another appointment at the end of March and things will be reassessed at that point. I will just keep telling him to follow the doctors orders.

Now I get to put my own home in order before I head up there again on Friday (providing the weather is such that I can go). I think it might be a weekly trip for me, and I will plan on spending the night (Harvey does not like me driving home in the dark for some reason, and since it is March and a very unpredictable month weather wise be sure to pack enough for a couple of days stay).

Kurt is doing well. He seems to be a bit down, but I will be phoning him again on Sunday just to talk. He has posted a bit more on social media though and that is a good thing to see once again. I think he might be a bit worried about the Easter trip he has planned for some of his students and whether or not it will be cancelled due to this Covid-19 virus.

Everybody have a wonderful day.

God bless.

Back To The City

Today we head back to the city. Kris has his specialist appointment very late this evening so we will be staying in Regina for the night. We are all hoping that the doctor will take out the staples on this visit and he will not have to wait any longer.

By staying up there overnight it gives us time to complete his shopping, and get him settled in and make sure everything is once again set up in his home. I also need to remake his bed as the bedding came home with me to be washed.

While the weather is nice here right now, the place we are heading to is forecasting freezing rain. I sure hope it all holds off until everything that needs doing is done!! Getting from place to place safely with someone on crutches is not fun.

Wish me luck in corralling his cat. She only lets Kris touch her, and right now Eiko is not too happy with me.

I will fill everyone in on the specialist appointment when we return.

Everybody have a wonderful day.

God bless.

A Bit of An Update

I managed to get Kris's apartment trip free while up there, did some more grocery shopping for him, laundry was done, and things made a little bit easier for him. It really is strange to see my active and youngest child so incapacitated.

The trip home was not easy for him, but we made it back here. The pain seemed to intensify the longer he had to sit in the car. I am hoping the trip back to the city to see his specialist on Thursday is a bit easier on him. I also hope that I can manage to fit in the backseat of the car.

We had one day where he took very little pain medication, but he is still in a bit of pain and those pills are running very low. I am hoping that he does not need more of these as morphine is not the best thing to take for a long period of time.

I am sewing some items that will make his life a bit easier. His microwave makes everything really hot (like unbearable to touch, need an oven mitt hot) so I am making some bowl cozies and a plate cozy for him. I plan on getting those partially sewn today and finished tomorrow (I have prayer shawls today).

Wednesday I will take him to the bank, get what little he has worn here at our place washed, and start packing once again. I think that perhaps Harvey and I should take turns going up to the city over the next few weeks. Once we learn about the physio and when that will occur, we will make arrangements and decide what and how we will do this.

My posting could be off and on over the next little while, so please forgive me.

Everybody have a wonderful day.

God bless.

Sunday Ramblings

Thank you for all the healing thoughts and good wishes for Kris. He really appreciates them and so do I. It is going to be a long haul (probably 6-8 weeks of no weight on his leg) and physical therapy as well. He is doing one of his exercises only right now as the other requires him to lie down and we need to get his bed set up (one of my first jobs upon my arrival back up there).

We got home from Regina yesterday afternoon, and I got started on my chore list immediately. Considering what time we arrived I managed to get the banking done, the grocery shopping done, picked up some items for Shania, and made supper. Then I kind of tuckered out.

Today I will be doing laundry, gathering things together for use up at Kris's, cleaning a few things, starting to pack, and baking a couple of apple crisps (one for here and one for taking).

I plan on staying up in Regina with Kris for at least 4 days and then bring him back here until the 27th when he sees the specialist once again. His appointment is quite late so we will be spending the night at his apartment (no hotel this time as they are getting darn expensive). If he feels up to it and depending on what the doctor says he will either stay in Regina, or come home with us for another little bit. We will continue to go up every so often just to get the garbage out of his apartment and try to clean out the kitty litter (unless I can figure out a way to raise that to make it easier for him????).

Off to continue with my plans for the day. I will be taking my laptop with me to Kris's place so hopefully I can keep you all updated on his progress.

Everybody have a wonderful day.

God bless.

A Little Addition

Kris was allowed out of the hospital tonight. We got him home and settled in, even stayed and had supper with him.

He did awesome getting up the stairs and into his apartment, though it did tire him out quite a bit.

We watched some television with him after, and then left for the hotel. Tomorrow morning we will drop by, feed the cat, do another garbage haul out, and then it will be home. In Harvey's case home for at least two weeks (if not a bit more), for me I will be getting some necessary chores done, and then coming back up to Regina to stay for around 4 or so days.

Then we will bundle things up and Kris will be coming home with me for a bit. We will probably bring him back in time for his appointment at his doctors close to the end of this month. Hopefully by then he will be getting around better and will be able to negotiate those crutches with ease.

A wonderful Valentines gift for him and us.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Not So Frugal Friday

As the title of the post says, it has been a not so frugal week. However, helping out Kris and being there when one of our children needs us is.....priceless.

Here is a picture of our youngest, really looking forward to getting out of the hospital. Keeping our fingers crossed that they let him come out tomorrow.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Thursday Tidbits

I really, honestly meant to post last night, but once again time disappeared from me. Only this time it was not for a good reason.

I got a text about 12 noon from our youngest son. He had fallen at work, and was sitting in the hospital in Regina waiting for an x-ray (which they were having trouble giving him). Turns out he broke his hip joint and would need surgery.

I rushed over to the neighbours to ask if she would watch Shania, quickly got the mail, packed (forgot my pills...lucky they are not necessary to keep me alive) and headed on our two hour journey to be with our youngest.

Kris had surgery last night, and will be in the hospital for a couple of days. We will drive back and forth from our hotel (must remember to make another days reservation) feeding his cat, and visiting him.

Kris somehow thinks he will be able to climb three flights of stairs, hauling groceries..... We are trying to convince him (and Eiko) to come home with us for the first week or so. I think it could take him trying his stairs himself before he realizes this might be the best for his road to recovery.

I will try and update you all as I learn more.

Everybody have a wonderful day.

God bless.

Thrifty Tuesday

The day has gotten away from me once again. I can't even use the excuse that I slept in, cause I didn't.

Most of today has been spent mending. I darned some socks, fixed a hem, resewed a couple of seams, pulled apart a t-shirt, and fixed the binding on a blanket. The morning sped right by.

I spent a bit of time this afternoon reading a book, and folding the finally dried clothing and bedding from the basement lines.

Then it was time to start supper. I am using the leftover roast beef and making a gravy, adding thinly sliced onions, some peas and mushrooms. We will have that over thick slices of homemade bread.

Looking back this has been a very thrifty day, getting the best use out of what we already have.

Tonight I am off to a Pastoral Council meeting, and I am really hoping that it will be a quick one. I am tired and all I want is to curl up with my library book and read.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

I will forego the menu plans this week....Back to regularly scheduled posts next week.

Catching Up

Instead of my usual Menu Monday blog (which I will post tomorrow along with my Thrifty Tuesday post), I though it would be nice if I caught you all up on the happenings here on the old homestead.

Mostly good things caused me to be so busy that I was unable to post for the last little while.

We took our fur baby to the vet in the middle of last week. She had not been in a vehicle since she was spayed at around 4 months so was quite stressed out (as were her human parents). I ended up holding her in my lap the entire trip. Pretty sure you all know what happens when a cat is stressed.... Our vehicle is now one massive hairball. I even had cat hair going up my nose.

Shania was a perfect lady while being examined. The only things she didn't really care for and made a slight sound of anger were getting her temperature taken (Harvey said he wouldn't like having his temperature taken that way either) and when the vet manipulated her intestines to see how backed up she was.

We got some medicine for her and brought her home again. Giving her the medicine is not an easy task, which has kept us trying to find new and inventive ways to do so. I think that now we have a way. Harvey pries her mouth open while holding her and I shoot the syringe full of medication down her throat. Not an easy task, but one we are getting pretty good at doing.

It seems like the medication is working, but I don't want to give it to her every day as it could cause her intestines to quit voiding altogether. So we give it to her for a couple of days and then chase her down to put a paste on her paw on the other days.

Still this is worth it if we can keep her with us a bit longer.

The other thing that has kept me busy is I started to knit a baby dress. Which I ended up changing as I could not keep the lace pattern straight. This has to be finished before the end of the month as that is when the new addition is due. I have the front completed and hope to finish the back and at least one sleeve by the end of this week. It does mean almost constant knitting though.

So there you have now been brought up to date on the happenings around here. I hope to get caught up reading what I have missed on your blogs.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Frugal Friday

Sorry to have been missing in action over the last week, I will fill you all in tomorrow about what has been happening here. Right now I will do my regular Frugal Friday post (though this has not been the most frugal of weeks).

1.  Saved $26.68 on groceries this week. Also saved $15.00 on sale items at Walmart.

2.  Got a free bag of chocolate covered cashews while shopping, The regular price of $5.99 is something I would never pay.

3.  Used a coupon to buy supper after our late return from the vets on Wednesday.

4.  Making a list of gifts that I can make with what I have on hand or can purchase the materials for on sale or at a second hand store.

5.  Enjoying walks outside while the weather is decent.

6.  Using solar heating on those sunny days to heat the house.

Off to visit all of you and get caught up on all your doings.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Menu Monday

I am a bit late posting this, but after staying up with our cat until the early hours of the morning, I managed to sleep in a bit.

Thanks so much for the well wishes for our cat. This morning she is eating a bit more, and seems to be moving around easier. She is sleeping way more, but perhaps that is what she needs at this point in time.

On to the menus for this the first full week of February.

Monday

Hotdogs, pasta and raw veggies and dip.

Tuesday

Leftover ham. I am not too sure what will be made, but hopefully something tasty.

Wednesday

Another container of soup from the freezer along with either grilled cheese or toasted scrambled egg sandwiches.

Thursday

I have an early (well fairly early meeting) tonight so a clean out the fridge night is in order. If the fridge is clean, I will pull out a container of stew from the big freezer.

Friday

German egg noodles (Glace) along with diced potatoes and fried onions.

Saturday

Smoked sausage, homemade fries and coleslaw.

Sunday

Roast beef, roasted potatoes, roasted carrots and the remains of the coleslaw.

Everybody have a wonderful day.

God bless.

Sunday Ramblings

It has been a fairly stressful day.

This morning I went and got our readers settled into the service at the Anglican church. It was our ecumenical exchange and it was wonderful that all our readers had people to sit with and I was able to leave them to it. You see our rather aged cat was having a very rough morning.

We have had Shania for 20 years and I don't think she will be with us much longer. Poor dear is having problems moving her bowels, not eating very much, and has lost 1/2 lb over the last month or so. She now weighs only 5. 4 lbs. She seems to even be unsteady on her feet. I plan on making an appointment with the vet this week and if she is in pain (which she really does not seem to be) or has something that could cause her a great deal of pain in the near future we will be saying goodbye. Just the thought of having to say farewell is making me cry.

Right now she is sleeping beside my chair and I reach down and give her a stroke every so often.

Our fur babies take over our hearts as well as our homes.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.
