Midweek Ramblings

It has been pretty cloudy today but at least we haven't had rain or snow as of yet the past couple of weeks. The longer things stay fairly decent the better it is for my driving in this city where people seem to forget how to drive during winter. Not that I don't like snow, and the moisture is necessary here for the proper seeding come the spring. I am just keeping my fingers crossed we don't get rain first.

I have spent some time trying to organize my kitchen pantry. The bad thing about this pantry is that the shelves go back so far. Did my best and now most items are in containers safe from any and all pests.

I will still have to search for items at the back of the shelves, but at least things are well contained. I also got lots of my canning jars back for next year.

Next up is the pantry in the hall as well as my home canned goods and all my various spices and herbs. Those last are taking up room on my counter. I am actually thinking about putting the dehydrated items into the cupboard above and bringing out my teas so as to use them all this winter. The teas will take up less room and once the jars in the spice rack are empty and refilled I should be able to have a bit more counter space available.

Working on projects and getting a few things ready for the new year. My calendar pages are ready now for menu plans, and my 2026 book for the To Do list is ready to go.

I have hung the new curtains in the sewing/craft room and folded the others up to see if Kris would like them for some area in his home. They are not as badly faded as I had thought and so he might be able to use them on his front window which would be great.

Even managed some decluttering this past week. Of course the decluttering was mostly paper and a couple of articles of clothing, but much better than nothing.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  2. Is there any way you can set the items in a tray that you can pull forward to see what’s in the back and then push it back when you’re done? I have shelves like that too, so I understand the issue. Your pantry looks great.

  3. Looking good. I have a deep pantry as well, and it is dark towards the back. I keep a small flashlight in there, for easy searching! Just a tip that might help.

  4. Your pantry looks great Jackie & I love your wooden cupboard doors - are they Oak? Love the grain in them. x

  5. I have some deep lower cabinets that were hard for me to get into. So I bought some clear containers and then tagged the contents. They now act as drawers that I can now pull out without straining my lower back. I'd love custom but these work fine.

  6. On each shelf I would have a basket/container with most of your bits in, infront I will have items you use often, we do this, it's much easier to pull the basket out to get to everything.

  7. What you need is drawers in your pantry. I had them installed at the old house when I had the cabinets refinished. While the drawers do take up some space they are amazing as you can pull them out to reach the items in the back. They also capture anything that might spill.
    Great job, it looks terrific!

  8. Love all of the suggestions to keep things in a basket or container that you can pull forward? Maybe that would be easier for you. Good work with the decluttering! - Hawaii Planner

  9. I love cleaning out our pantry cupboards in the Suite, it sometimes surprises me if I've left it too long. :)
I also use baskets for my top shelf, which is big and very deep. Canned goods and jars are easy to access then.

  10. Your pantry looks great. Very organised. I'm sure it will make life much easier. I too need to change the curtains in my sewing room. I bought a cheap pair for £8 in a home store last year and they are nice and dark and cosy for the winter. The one that is currently up, I will use for a quilt I started a few years back with the second curtain of the pair.

  11. Yes you are right, any bit of decluttering is a big help in the scheme of things. I really should tidy up my panty too, plus the under the sink cupboard.

  12. Aren't organized cupboards a wonderful thing? I'm with others that suggested some sort of pull-out containers but also I wonder if a paper 'inventory' of what's on each shelf might be helpful as well.

  13. What about installing or having them installed, the units that pull all the way out? Makes it sooooo easy to see and use everything.
