Saturday Roundup

This week has been more of a use it up, and moving items to their proper place kind of week.

The loom has been moved out of my living room into the sewing/craft room, the tree brought upstairs and set up ready to be decorated, work on projects has continued and will take place even through the beginning of December.

I have started my Christmas baking, which will be less than other years. Probably a good thing for our waistlines, but there will still be enough to share with Kurt and Kris.

Leftovers from the fridge and freezer are being used. I made an error this week and didn't use my brussels sprouts soon enough, which caused them to spoil. I hated to waste them, but they had too much spoilage to even cut off. Not going to make that mistake again.

I have made my extra cleaning list, and my projects/goals list for the month of December. I have also started to add things to the budget sheets for the month of November (the budget will be done totally tomorrow).

The shopping list for next week has been started and should be finished tomorrow as well. A few items are necessary even if they are not on sale. This one is much shorter than the last couple.

The $5.00 pantry thing is that each week one should take $5.00 and purchase one or more pantry stable items for their emergency pantry. This pantry stock is totally separate from the regular pantry stock up.

Today it has been quiet, and restful. Other than my weekly call to baby brother (who happens to be in his early 60's) things have rolled along slow and easy.

Harvey has been working on a project downstairs which used up some of his stashed lumber. Always happy when he can find something to do that keeps him occupied and happy. Pretty sure he will start to decorate his man cave this upcoming week for Christmas.

Off to get the table set and then visit with as many of you as possible before I need to start supper.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  1. I looked up the $5 pantry challenge online since I'm not on social media - I'm in but will start in Jan. What a good idea and so simple I don't know why I didn't figure it out. My emergency food of canned goods, and dry goods is depleated. We do have the freeze dried emergency foods but need to have other options as well. I'm now thinking I should purchase a food saver - We had a weevil infestation. Now I freeze my flour, that way I can ensure freshness for beans, rice etc.

  2. Dear Jackie, the emergency pantry is a great idea 💡 There is a church ⛪️ here in Montreal that hosts what they call an orphan Christmas 🎄 dinner that they do every year.
They welcome anyone who has no place to go or who hasn't been invited anywhere for Christmas day...the church members who host this meal all bring something for the meal. A turkey, vegetables, cranberry sauce, gravy, stuffing, etc.
And for dessert there is usually a homemade pie and Christmas log.

  3. I love it when my husband finds a project to keep him busy.
Thanks for explaining the 5.00 challenge. I guess i already do it and just didn’t realize. I’m one of those people who need the full pantry so i keep an eye out for the deals on things we use. I don’t do a set amount every week, though. Same outcome!

  5. Adding to the pantry is always a great idea, especially that winter is here!
    Sounds like a good week.

  6. Do you have a compost bin? The Brussel sprouts could be added to it, so you wouldn't have to feel as though they were a total waste.
We simply don't have room for more pantry items, but are planning to get a second small freezer. That way as our garden produces more we'll have room to store it.

  7. OH repaired, re-roofed and creosoted our little wood/coal shed this weekend using wood he already had and if gave him a sense of satisfaction. It should keep it in use a lot longer

  8. I’ve seen that $5.00 challenge on a Facebook group before, I think. It’s a good one and another good way of stocking up.

  10. I'm pleased you've had a quiet, restful week. I'll be doing very little Christmas baking with just me here. As I'm spending Christmas Day with my daughter and her family, I'll make a family favourite to take and share.

  11. I hadn't heard of the $5 challenge but it's an excellent idea. We don't do a weekly shop anymore and tend to wait until we have several things on our list before we bother going.
