Slowly but surely I am making head way on my projects.
Today I subbed at one of the schools and I have noticed that I am in a great deal of pain on those days, so I decided that it might be a great idea if on those days I just had some regular knitting to do. I started this cowl when we drove for our little get away to the spa (after all a person does need something to occupy their hands whilst on longer journeys). So I plan on pulling this out on those days when I am supposed to sew the cord onto my rug project and my back and hips just are not up to the job.
It will keep me on my toes on these types of days.
I can also do a bit of stitching on my angel cross stitch on those days. Once the sun disappears I have to put it away though. Here is how this project is coming along.
Every little bit helps this project along.
This month is also the birthday month for our two sons. Kurt is born on the 17th of the month and Kris almost exactly 5 years later on the 16th of the month. Since both of them come home on the Thanksgiving weekend (which is usually the week the two of them entered the world) we always have their gifts ready for them.
Today I spent a bit of time wrapping them.
If you notice both boxes are exactly the same. This year they both get the same gift. Harvey figured they needed good cordless drills so that it what he picked up for them at Canadian Tire along with some quality drill bits.
Please excuse the pile of books in my basket. Most of these will slowly disappear over the winter. I just like having them handy.
For the three of you that won the bloggy give away, I mailed your parcels off on Tuesday. Enjoy, just let me know when yours arrives.
Everybody have a wonderful evening.
God bless.

Thrifty Tuesday
Today was the opening day of one of my favorite rummage sales..... This time they did not have as much as they usually have. In fact the tables were quite bare. I did manage to find a few craft items and books though.
Two fairly large pieces of fabric, six books for my winter reading, and twelve balls of what was my mother's favorite yarn to knit with. All for a total cost of..... $7.00.
There was a box of scraps there as well that I was tempted to purchase, but really I have more than enough scraps of my own to make quilts with. However if that box is still there tomorrow after I finish work it may just be coming home with me.....

Menu Monday
This week is the lead up to our Canadian Thanksgiving and I definitely need to clear out some space in the fridge for this. Hence this week will be a week of using things up. Thank heavens I will be working a couple of days this week and able to take leftovers for my lunches.
Monday
Leftover chicken from the freezer made into a casserole along with the leftover salad.
Tuesday
Corned Beef Hash and coleslaw.
Wednesday
Lazy Cabbage Rolls, this is to get rid of the remaining cabbage.
Thursday
Clean out the fridge smorg.
Friday
Glace and eggs (German noodles)
Saturday
Hot dogs, pasta, and some more coleslaw.
Sunday
Roast turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, carrots, salad, pickles and pumpkin pie.
Everybody have a wonderful day.
God bless.

Sunday Ramblings
Today, the homily at Mass, was a video put out by the Archdiocese. This has been done every year since the implementation of the Archdiocesan Appeal, which started around 10 years ago. Yet for some reason this one touched a chord within me, especially since it fit in so well with the readings.....
Stewardship, how we do it, why we do it, and are we doing what God intends us to do. The video started with the words "Be not afraid." I have often pondered those words, usually in connection with the hymn we regularly sing, or at funerals. Now I will have to look at them in a different light as the video went on to say "Go and serve the Lord."
When Christ returns, will we (meaning me) be found working diligently in the Lord's vineyard and calling others to join me in the joy of the Lord. Or will I be found just taking advantage of what the Lord has given me, taking, rather than giving back? Questions I need to ponder answers to.
Supper tonight saw me moving away from the weekly menu I posted. I did not make the ham, due to the amount of leftovers I want to clear out (lots still to go so there will be a makeover of next weeks menus as well).
I had some leftover corn, and some leftover steelhead trout. I wanted them gone, or at least made into something delicious to use them.
I found this recipe for Corn and Fish Pie. Much like a quiche but no crust.
After baking this is what it looked like.
Actually, it was quite tasty, but I think it needs a few tweeks. I would make and serve this again as Harvey seemed to really enjoy it. I will post the recipe (with some tweeks) later on.

Fishy Friday
The end of the week and the day I usually pick to go with fish for supper. A leftover from Harvey's Catholic upbringing and I find it saves us a bit in the long run. No really savings tonight as we had stealhead trout for our meal and that was relatively expensive, even buying it at Costco.
I was tired of doing the same old thing every time I made fish so following one of my goals (trying a new recipe at least once or twice a month), I searched high and low for something new. I found this recipe on Allrecipies.com and just loved it. Of course I had to make a few subs.
Steelhead Trout Bake with Dijon Mustard
cooking spray
1 lb steelhead trout fillets
1/4 cup dry white wine (I just used whatever white wine we had on hand)
2 1/2 tbsp Dijon mustard
2 cloves garlic, pressed (I just finely chopped/minced the two cloves)
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp dill weed
1 tsp lemon pepper (I didn't have this so just used pepper about 1/2 tsp)
Preheat oven to 400 F. Spray a baking dish with cooking spray. Arrange the fillets in the pan. Mix remaining ingredients and spread/pour over the fillets, letting some run underneath. Bake in the oven until the fish is opaque and flakes easily about 10 to 15 minutes.
A picture of the fish before it went in the oven. So good. As Harvey said it did not even taste fishy.
I served it with corn niblets and in keeping with less work for me, brown rice made in this.
My handy, dandy rice cooker.
Everybody have a wonderful evening.
God bless.

Thursday Tid Bits
The days are getting noticeably shorter. I get up and it is still dark. When we eat our supper at 6 or there about the sun is already slipping down. Now at 7 it is dark and lights are twinkling from houses in the valley. All is getting ready for the long sleep ahead.
I got a phone call from St. Mary's today asking me if I could work tomorrow, and Wednesday (they wanted me Friday, but I plan on making pies). This will give me the number of days I want this month and so I will not be working for at least another week. The cash will come in handy for our trip to the mountains later this month.
I thought I would share some pictures of our holiday last year, after all many bloggers call this Throwback Thursday.

Mid Week Blahs And New Goals
I was asked to sub at the other Catholic School in the city today.
I ran between 3 classes, Grade 3, Grade 4 and Grade 1. Wow, I forgot how needy those little ones are. I was also out on supervision at recess and early in the morning. Was the weather nice...... Not at all, it was misty and windy I could have used some windshield wipers on my glasses!!! The above picture was taken when I worked at the school many years ago. So I am tired and kind of achy. I may just jump into a nice warm bath in a bit after I work on my knitting for awhile.
Anyway, it is the first day of the month and time to list my goals for this month.
1. Sew the coat I have now cut out.
2. Organize another binder or two of recipes.
3. Continue the projects I have started. I figure another couple of weeks on the cross stitch (or by the end of the month) and finish at least 2 skeins of yarn on the rug project.
4. Choose fabric for two sewing projects and get the projects cut out (must finish or be close to finishing my coat).
5. Have at least 18 no spend days this month (this is an ongoing challenge on a forum I belong to).
6. Wrap the birthday gifts that will be given out this month.
So I am taking it a bit easy on myself this month. Now that school is back in session, I never know when I will be called in to work. I am hoping for no more then five days a pay period, but we will see what will happen. Today I found out there is a rather large shortage of subs. No wonder I am being called upon so often.
Joyce and Shawn, could you please email me your snail mail addresses as soon as possible.
