Thrifty Tuesday

Perhaps one of the thriftiest things I do is pack a lunch when I work.

This is an image of my exact lunch bag. I love it!! I fill it with all sorts of good food from my own fridge.

Today, for example, I took my leftover supper from Sunday. That was the remainder of my baked potato and my slow cooked pork chop. I added a container of salad, a small container of dressing, 2 kiwi, and a container of yogurt (from a bigger container). I also threw in some crackers and cheese for a snack!!! So my lunch cost me pennies and was a great deal healthier than anything I could have went out and bought.

So what's my packed lunch for tomorrow?

Leftovers from supper tonight, along with more salad, some dressing, yogurt, kiwi, and of course some crackers and cheese for my afternoon snack.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Wednesday Updates

Slowly but surely I am making head way on my projects.

Today I subbed at one of the schools and I have noticed that I am in a great deal of pain on those days, so I decided that it might be a great idea if on those days I just had some regular knitting to do. I started this cowl when we drove for our little get away to the spa (after all a person does need something to occupy their hands whilst on longer journeys). So I plan on pulling this out on those days when I am supposed to sew the cord onto my rug project and my back and hips just are not up to the job.

It will keep me on my toes on these types of days.

I can also do a bit of stitching on my angel cross stitch on those days. Once the sun disappears I have to put it away though. Here is how this project is coming along.

Every little bit helps this project along.

This month is also the birthday month for our two sons. Kurt is born on the 17th of the month and Kris almost exactly 5 years later on the 16th of the month. Since both of them come home on the Thanksgiving weekend (which is usually the week the two of them entered the world) we always have their gifts ready for them.

Today I spent a bit of time wrapping them.

If you notice both boxes are exactly the same. This year they both get the same gift. Harvey figured they needed good cordless drills so that it what he picked up for them at Canadian Tire along with some quality drill bits.

Please excuse the pile of books in my basket. Most of these will slowly disappear over the winter. I just like having them handy.

For the three of you that won the bloggy give away, I mailed your parcels off on Tuesday. Enjoy, just let me know when yours arrives.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Mid Week Blahs And New Goals

I was asked to sub at the other Catholic School in the city today.

I ran between 3 classes, Grade 3, Grade 4 and Grade 1. Wow, I forgot how needy those little ones are. I was also out on supervision at recess and early in the morning. Was the weather nice...... Not at all, it was misty and windy I could have used some windshield wipers on my glasses!!!  The above picture was taken when I worked at the school many years ago. So I am tired and kind of achy. I may just jump into a nice warm bath in a bit after I work on my knitting for awhile.

Anyway, it is the first day of the month and time to list my goals for this month.

1.     Sew the coat I have now cut out.

2.    Organize another binder or two of recipes.

3.    Continue the projects I have started. I figure another couple of weeks on the cross stitch (or by the end of the month) and finish at least 2 skeins of yarn on the rug project.

4.    Choose fabric for two sewing projects and get the projects cut out (must finish or be close to finishing my coat).

5.    Have at least 18 no spend days this month (this is an ongoing challenge on a forum I belong to).

6.    Wrap the birthday gifts that will be given out this month.

So I am taking it a bit easy on myself this month. Now that school is back in session, I never know when I will be called in to work. I am hoping for no more then five days a pay period, but we will see what will happen. Today I found out there is a rather large shortage of subs. No wonder I am being called upon so often.

Joyce and Shawn, could you please email me your snail mail addresses as soon as possible.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Saving Happening Today

Today has been a slow, pain filled day. My fibro has been acting up and slow, even stretches and walking did not help a whole lot. A bit, but not as much as I would have liked.

I have been busy knitting (finished Kurt's afghan and have started Kris's in the evenings) and curling up on a chair to spend most of the afternoon reading. Sure hope that tomorrow the headache is gone and the pain has lessened. I got a call to work and since it is for a good friend I am doing the sub job. Money coming in is always a good thing.

I did go out for a bit this afternoon. Our CWL Rummage Sale was on and I went to look for some sewing supplies.

I got a Christmas table cloth that I can cut up into useable material for ornaments or gift bags.

I am leaning towards reusable bags as my other gift bags are getting a bit worn.

I also picked up this lovely robin egg blue knit. I think it will make a lovely spring skirt.

I have just over 3 meters which is more than enough for the pattern I have in mind.

This brown with what almost looks like spiked balloons on it I plan on making a dress out of.

I have just over 4 meters of this fabric.

Lastly I picked up this.

There is only one meter of this, but I should be able to get a tank top out of it.

I got all this fabric for a grand total of $5.00. Not too bad really as to buy new would be at least 5 times that cost.

I did not post my weekly menus as I am busy trying to use up items in the fridge. Tonight I made Baked Rigatoni using up the leftover pasta from a couple of nights ago. Why is it that using up leftovers always seems to mean there are even more leftovers to "use up"? Oh well stretching what we eat makes me feel as if I am accomplishing something towards our finances.
It actually turned out quite good, except it was way more than we could eat for one meal. I made a TV type meal for Kris and the rest of the leftovers will be a couple of lunches.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Cross Stitch Update and Subbing Started Again

Today I subbed as an EA at one of our Catholic Schools. Sure am glad that I don't have to go in every day as the times have changed and I doubt I could keep them straight. While we do get out 5 minutes earlier, we only get 45 minutes for lunch. Not really enough time if you want to go out, thank heavens I usually bring my lunch with me.

It was nice to see all the students again though even though it cut my project time down a great deal. I only got to work on my cross stitch for about 45 minutes after work today. It will be the same tomorrow as I am subbing in a kindergarten class in the other Catholic School tomorrow.

So, this is how far I managed to get last week on the angel.

And this is how far I have gotten this past week.

Not much difference, but I can see that slowly but surely I am getting it done.

Mama Bear from Bears Return Home asked about my oven fries. Well I cut up potatoes into wedges, place them in a plastic bag to which I have added some oil (about 1/4 cup) and spices (usually some Seasoning Salt). I shake the bag to cover the potatoes well with the oil/spice mixture and pour them onto a foil lined baking tray. Stick them in the oven and bake until they are golden brown at 350 F. Easy, peasy.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.
