It seems as if winter is back once again. Harvey went for a short drive and said the roads are getting icy. The snow is falling harder now and I am sure we will actually get the amount that was forecast. Or at least very close to that amount. So very glad that I went out yesterday and did all my errands.
This morning Harvey and I put together the shelving unit that came yesterday.
This has enabled me to get all my small appliances that I regularly use out of the spare bedroom (the closet consists of shelves) and into a space where I can access them a bit easier. I really like the set up and now I also have room to store my dehydrator and electric roaster upstairs instead of down in the basement. I am hoping to declutter more in the spare bedroom closet to enable me to bring up my blancher and my water bath canner. At least I will not have to go up and down the stairs as much during harvest season.
We have decided that next week we will price out ranges and order or purchase a new one. I am so looking forward to having a working oven, but unless bulk cooking or baking, will continue to use the toaster oven or electric roaster.
I was asked about my mint salve and this was something I made last fall. I used dry mint, soaked in a carrier oil (I believe I used grapeseed oil). I put it in the window for about 6 weeks, perhaps slightly less and then drained through a double layer of cheese cloth, put in a double boiler, added some cosmetic grade beeswax pellets. Then stirred until the pellets melted and were combined with the oil, and poured into small tin containers.
This is how I do most of my salves, some have a bit of cosmetic grade shea butter added as well. Many of the recipes I use say to use a few drops of essential oils, but I have never done that.
One day I will purchase a new hand mixer and then use the old one to make lotion and refill my pump bottles.
Everybody have a wonderful evening.
God bless.
Yuck, yuck, yuck on winter! The shelf looks really nice. Stay safe
ReplyDeleteThe shelf looks nice with the appliances. It’s so nice to have most of them all in one place. Sorry winter is hanging on up there. I hope you get some warmer weather soon.
ReplyDeleteBummer on the weather. I hope it improves soon. Love the new shelf. It's so convenient to have everything in one place. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteThat shelf should make life a lot easier for you. I'm sure I could get rid of lots of things in my cupboards, I do really need to do a declutter at some point.
ReplyDeleteWe must be in the same(ish) weather band. We got freezing rain, too. It’s treacherous to take the dogs out. Good going on the shelf! I run up and down the basement steps during canning season, as well.
ReplyDeleteThe shelving looks great and so much more accessible but as for the weather - brrrrrrrrr. It can't last long though, can it? xx
ReplyDeleteHi Jackie, just caught up on your posts. We woke to major snowfall this morning with an ice storm warning. We have no fridge and are using the downstairs cold room and really need a new stove too. We are going to price if we could get a deal buying two appliances. Right now they wouldn't be able to get them in the house as we have steps snow and ice covered. Aww, March, heh.
ReplyDeleteWinter is being a real pain this year - just doesn't want to let go of it's grip.
ReplyDeleteThe shelving unit is very helpful. It's always challenging to find the space for these items.
Stay warm!
That shelf will be a blessing for you.
ReplyDeleteYuck to the winter return.
