Midweek

While it was cooler today the sun was shining, I found the office of my new doctor, and I managed to get in and out of the over crowded stores in record time.

Just as I finished typing this the doctor's office called to set up an appointment. Shocked me greatly as I was under the impression I would need to phone there. I just might enjoy this doctor, even if we don't quite hit it off, I will make the best of it.

Household tasks were done in a flash, and I spent most of the afternoon waiting for my pumpkin puree to thaw. However I did not waste that time, I worked on my quilt top and when the shoulders started to ache (and the back had a few twinges) I went to my chair after a bit of a walk and began to do some knitting. I am hoping to finish the quilt top tomorrow and start on another sewing project. This was an extra quilt top project to use up more of those fabric squares I already had out.

The house finches are back, as are the nut hatches. I have even seen and heard many robins. I now have some oranges for the orioles who will be arriving very soon as well.

The only problem with spring is the infestation of box elder bugs we seem to be having. Spraying does keep them under control (we use soapy water), but man when the grass is covered with a moving blanket of them things are getting pretty darn bad. So far today, we haven't had to kill any in the house.

These are box elder bugs. They crawl around on silent feet, and one never knows when one will be crawling on you. They kind of give me the creeps.

It has been a lovely day, full of quiet joys, and surprises. This time though the surprise was a good one.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  1. Sounds like a really wonderful day.
I despise those bugs. We get them closer to fall and they cover any west side or sunny area of buildings here. I use soapy water is a prayer on them - but they are so thick it is disgusting.

  3. Nope I don’t mind the crawly bugs on the ground but on me, I squeal like a greased pig.

  4. Yuck - I've seen those bugs on the outside wall of my apt. building and I never knew what they were - but there were a lot of them! We are having an issue with what I think are called "Shield or Stink bugs" - they are easily killed but seem to appear out of nowhere. I read that peppermint oil dotted around should help so have to start treatment around my windows this weekend!

  5. I didn't know what those bugs are called until now. We don't have many but prefer it stay that way! I think they are in some of our dying service trees.

  6. We are getting those bugs too! Yuck!!!

I am seeing more birds show up as well. There was a group of Mergansers fishing in the river yesterday. They won't stay here, but just having them come through is a sign that Spring is on its way.

I hope everything works out with your new doctor. I think the staff is the most important part of a practice anyway.

  7. I didn’t know what the bugs were called either. We have stink bugs here and they drive me nuts at times. I’m glad you had a lovely day.

  8. I hate those bugs! There is a hedge out front at my son's and I'm sure they are covered. He hasn't mentioned them, but they are always bad in the city. Good luck in your fight against them.
The birds are showing up here too, though without a feeder in the yard, I haven't identified any except the robin and the juncos.

  9. Your doctor sounds like they're on it, which is a good sign. I've been putting mealworms out for the birds, but haven't had any takers yet. I'm hoping it might entice more birds into the garden. At the moment, we just get pigeons.

  11. Oh my goodness, a moving blanket of bugs! Don't know how I'd cope with that. We get the occasional cockroach in the house, i sometimes find a dead one in the morning, after Gemma has pounced and killed it. And a few tiny ants, but that's all.

  12. Yew - those bugs would give me nightmares (and I'm not normally bothered by bugs...unless they're ticks).
I'm with you in the pain issue - my neck is giving me grief when I try to do too much machine sewing. I think it's because my table isn't the right height but I can't do anything about it.
