Sunday Ramblings

Since the Passion was read at Mass today, it was a longer service, not really much longer though as one thing about this priest is that he always starts on time.

I think the church was a bit warmish today as I started sweating, and got really dizzy. Holy week has started and so the Masses (except for Good Friday) will be longer than usual. I don't know if I will be able to attend like I always have. Good Friday there is a Way of the Cross outside put on by various mainline Christian churches so I think I will attend that for a change. Outside, walking and taking part in an interfaith service is right up my alley.

Today has been very rainy. Which is a good thing. The ground needs the moisture and the cleaning effects. Love a good rain as it will fill up the rain barrel as well.

Day of no spring cleaning just working on projects and enjoying the quiet. I did plan out next weeks daily tasks and my spring cleaning tasks. It will not be finished for Easter, but not too long after. I will probably get two areas cleaned, but the last two will need to wait. There is baking to do, visiting, and just plain being with family over the week.

While Kurt will not be home, Kris will so I am going to check out his injury (well actually two as now he realizes that he did a job on his knee as well). He had to do some repairs on his covered deck and Harvey of course gave him some ideas. One support pole is up, and he will do the next couple probably next month. The heavy snow Regina got this year did a bit of a number on it.

Home is quickly becoming our sanctuary, not sure when we will move, as the losses in our investment need to be made up and I have so many plans for making our yard produce more veggies and fruit. That is something we can not do in a condo. I can continue to declutter and downsize. I can make our home an oasis of peace and beauty. We can learn from the frugal habits of our parents and grandparents and perhaps pass on a few new ideas to our sons. We can enjoy our backyard more (what those in the UK call their gardens), and take the time to sit and talk with family around the firepit or deck.

I also think that some drives to forage berries will be in order this year as well. I miss having chokecherry jelly and syrup in the pantry. Kind of an outdoor date with benefits. Hopefully the ticks will all be gone by the time berry picking takes place, I am kind of a tick magnet. I hate having to remove them from my body.

While life can change, I am going to definitely make the best of those changes and live each day with joy and confidence in what is going to happen in our lives. We have our family, we have a mortgage free home, we have skills and habits that will see us through any and all of lives ups and downs.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  1. I've not had chokecherry jelly. What is the closest common berry in taste?

    1. Juhli, they taste similar to a sour cherry, but are much smaller.

      God bless.

  2. I love this Jackie! Life is always changing and like you said, we have to make the best choices of these changes, living each day with joy and confidence! So true.
As much as I have hiked, I have never had a tick on me. Yuck. Either I’ve been lucky or they just don’t like me. Must be all the garlic… I make up for it with mosquitoes! They love me.

  3. If we can't be flexible in our every day lives, we would face way too much disappointment. Learning to live with the changes and get the best we can out of each day with the ones we love as well as with others around us.

  5. Love your last paragraph. So true, life is a journey and there are many ups and downs - but need to enjoy each moment. Home is the best place to be.

  6. There are many people who would be very envious of the position you're in. I can't imagine how scary it must be to be facing large mortage payments and job insecurity right now.

  7. As someone else has mentioned, you have a good attitude. Living your life in a way that makes sense and brings satisfaction sounds good to me.

  8. Spending time with family is probably the most important thing you can do. The cleaning can always wait. I'm hoping to do some blackberry picking this summer. I used to do it when I walked the dog, but without her I wasn't motivated last summer. We are now down to our last jar of home made jam and I'm having to buy it again.

  9. You have my sympathy. I am always worried about picking up ticks from long grass, even though I never have. Biting insects find me irresistible, especially the horrible wee beastie that is the Scottish midge.
