I get questioned quite often on why we don't go out and eat or order in more often. I usually say it is because I love to cook and we have a full freezer and a full pantry. I also know what is in the food I prepare, and we do go out for a meal or order in every so often, especially when I have been extremely busy in the garden or cleaning the house.
Sometimes I am asked why we don't travel more. I usually say it is because I love my home and enjoy spending time with my flowers, processing the garden, or working on projects inside. It isn't that we couldn't, but I do find the lead up to traveling to be a bit overwhelming at times. Traveling to visit our sons is different and easy. Traveling to a cottage in a National Park here in Canada is easy as well. It is traveling overseas that causes me angst.
Then of course there is the obstacles I put in front of myself. There are times I find it very difficult to rid myself of those things we no longer need or use. I also find it hard to rid myself of bits and bobs of yarn (getting better as I can use those to pull my warp together, make mittens or toques for Kurt's school). Still I have yarn enough to last another decade, fabric to last at least a year, and other craft supplies that would probably last years as well. Still I am slowly working my way through everything and things are slowly being cleared out bit by bit.
Still both of us are working towards a slower, more intentional life.

Gee I'd never ask why someone chooses to live a certain way. You don't owe anyone any reasons. But I get how that can be frustrating.
ReplyDeleteHeck we don't travel which I thought we'd be doing by now. For me I hate to fly Never used to but I finally admitted it. I'm content and we do plenty that keeps me happy. The rest is no body else's business!
I don't understand why anyone would ask such silly questions of someone else. We all choose the life we live for one reason or another. it almost sounds like judgement from those people. Anyway, I would never ask someone why they live a certain way. They hardly deserve a response. 🤷♀️

ReplyDeleteIt really doesn't matter what other people think, and you shouldn't have to explain your life to them. It seems very rude to me that anyone would question you like that. Put all those rude people out of your mind and keep on being you. And concentrate on your wonderful upcoming holiday.

I think it is our own business to live how we choose, not how others think we should live. I am at an age now where I am unashamedly a homebody & not afraid to admit this. xx

ReplyDeleteWe don't travel all that much. Neither of us like flying these days, although we do fly sometimes, when it can't be avoided. I agree that international travel is quite stressful. It didn't bother me at all when I was younger, but as I get older I enjoy it less, rammed into tiny seats with very little leg room. There are lots of lovely places to visit in the UK and we should do more travelling here really.
ReplyDeleteThat yarn stash struggle is so relatable. I always think I'll find a use for every little scrap and before I know it, it's taking over. Love this look into your intentional life, there is so much peace in just being happy right at home. Can't wait to see the progress photos.
ReplyDeleteWe don't eat out too often although the past week is a contradiction to that as we 'celebrated' our birthdays. We like to go out for coffee but that generally involves a trip to McDonald's because we like the coffee there. It's a whole lot cheaper than going to a coffee shop.
