Here it is the third day of the month and I have spent not a read cent. We are not deprived, not going without, and traveling this road quite well.
I do know that there will be twists and turns. Perhaps even detours, but together with a plan Harvey and I will make out just fine.
Over the last couple of days both have us have decided that the busier we are the less likely we are to want to spend money foolishly. We are extremely lucky in that we do not have a mortgage or a car payment. Being frugal for years paid off in no consumer debt. I have been reading lately that Canadians are getting more and more in debt.... Not going to happen here, we are bound and determined not to fall into the credit trap.
This does not mean we won't ever use credit, just that we will make sure that we pay off our bills every month and not over extend ourselves.
This year our big expense will be working on the basement. Harvey has started this already and hopefully other than the new furnace and duct work it is something he can do on his own. Keeps him busy and happy as well as out of my hair.
Me, well I will be working on getting my monies worth out of everything we buy and working on those set aside projects. Heck I may even find time to visit the library more often.
Being frugal does not mean doing without, it just means using what we have to the best of our ability and doing so in a smart and savvy way.
Everybody have a wonderful evening.
God bless.
Great post, Jackie....I take it you and Harvey have retired.....Jim retired from his 'big' job last October and it was tough for a while until we decided to pay off the mortgage.....Now he works 20 hours a week and that pays for groceries and other necessities.....He says I've not retired and I say women never do...I'm not earning any money but I'm busier than ever.

Jackie,
ReplyDeleteHubby and I got out of debt and have no intention of going back in. We will always have to make a car payment probably, but other than that, we are debt free. Just pay the rent and the bills. It's great to have that freedom. We will save for what we want or need.
Blessings,
Mary
