Tuesday, and finally we have the house to ourselves for a few days. The construction crew left a few hours ago and Harvey and I feel much better about the basement walls.
Tomorrow we go to look at wall board, however we are leaning towards drywall for our wall covering with a wide vinyl baseboard. The way the new walls are constructed we do not have to worry about the old collapsing or water getting at the drywall from behind. Fixing the walls was a thrifty move on our part (though the cost was high). We also put in insulation which should help lower our heating costs, another thrifty move on our part.
Today I woke up to a hard frost. Even though we had flowers and veggies covered there was still a bit of frost damage. So I picked all the green peppers, and now have 5 of them dehydrating. I usually freeze them, but thought I would try this instead, saving room in the freezer.
Two trays of garden goodness to be stored later tonight.
I also found some yarn to make one of my nieces a lovely scarf, hat and mittens for Christmas. Ruby red and sparkly, just perfect for a 17 year old.
Buttons and a seam in one of Harvey's shirts were repaired to round out a thrifty day.
Everybody have a wonderful evening.
God bless.
Today I picket the corn for the freezer but saved one for seed next year. I cut back the strawberry plants making sure the new runners were planted to ensure new plants for next year and I've most of my tea came directly from the garden - corn, tomatoes and lettuce.
ReplyDeleteAin't we doing well!
Love the idea of a red sparkly scarf, hat and mittens. Roll on Christmas.

ReplyDeleteI sure am not ready for frost but figure it will be coming soon.
Sorry to hear that you have had a hard frost already! Seems a little early to me.
