Frugal Friday

Kurt left on Wednesday and so I spent yesterday catching up on the few things I am allowed to do around the house. Once again the house seems awfully quiet once again.

To tell you all the truth, I have been extremely lazy the last few days. Not much done on the craft front, no decluttering, no baking. I just do not feel like my normal self. Truth to tell I am just tired right out with the weather and the pandemic. I shouldn't be because here in Canada we don't go through the type of lockdowns that other areas of the world do. At times I almost wish we would as case numbers are rising in my country, in my province and in my zone of the province. I get my first shot of the vaccine tomorrow (probably Moderna) and am really excited.

On to what was frugal around the old homestead this week.

1.  Used up some more of the fabric I had bought to make masks. I made 5 more for Kris and 5 more for Kurt. Still working with elastic I have had for years. It seems that buying things on sale and stashing them does have benefits.

2.  Saved $13.67 on groceries this week. Yet considering how fast prices are rising I would love to save even more.

3.  Found a dime and added it to the change jars.

4.  Had windows open on the two  beautiful days we had this week to air out the house.

5.  Hubby hung out the bedding to dry.

6.  Reading free or re-reading books from either Kobo or off my shelves.

7.  Using up bits and bobs of hand lotion, bath gel and body butter.

So how were you frugal this week?

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  1. Congrats on getting your vaccine started. I got my first shot yesterday. I was nervous but thankfully nothing but a bit of a sore arm. Best of luck with yours!

No spending here this week other than a minimal grocery trip, but saved almost $50 stocking up on BOGO items including chicken breasts. Windows still wide open this week, beautiful weather here in Florida. I'm also using up little bits of things. :)

  2. I did well at Co-op this week, lean ground beef was only $3.49 a pound, the lowest I've seen it for awhile. They also had large packs of chicken breast for $20 - I got 8 good sized breasts for that price.

Like you, I'm wishing our provincial authorities would close things down especially in the areas where the cases seem to be escalating...here in the city for sure. I won't be going anywhere but a grocery trip once a week until things settle down.

Good luck with your vaccine - if you have a reaction, I hope it is mild. Take care, stay well!

  3. I am happy to hear you are getting your first shot tomorrow! I imagine you needed some rest after the holiday weekend and having both boys home. You got lots of frugal things done there! I've been working on getting the last little bit out of lotion and shampoo bottles and it is surprising what you can get out of them. Take care Jackie!

  4. It is quiet when the kids leave. Too quiet. Cases are rising here also. I ordered dinner out and I was shocked at the number of people at the restaurant. Even with our shots we will not eat in a packed restaurant. These new variants may jump our immunity. I think people are just so tired of the whole thing. Hang in there after you get the shots you will feel better. Even though we still wear masks in stores, I feel safer.

  6. I know how you feel about the pandemic, like you I am fed up of all the restrictions and heart sore that I am unable to visit family. Masks have been made this week and several portions of soup for the freezer.

  7. You're not alone Jackie, lockdown is very hard and my hubby and I laugh at the fact we complain of lassitude or can't be bothered-itis. Its very difficult to get enthusiastic about anything. We've had both our vaccines now so will be venturing out a little bit, but not where there's crowds.

  8. Good luck with your vaccine today, Jackie. I'm so glad you're going to start the process of being protected. I think that will help with your covid-fatique. ~Andrea xoxo

  9. So glad you are getting your vaccination. England is coming out of lockdown in stages, but I'm afreaid that when pubs and cafes open, the cases of Covid will escalate.
