Tuesday Tidbits and Stuff

As usual during the winter, it has been a quiet day on the old homestead. I did my mending, worked on my embroidery for a couple of hours, did the household tasks, and admired the work Harvey has done restoring the dining room table.

Late this afternoon my yogurt maker arrived. Tonight I will sterilize the containers and start my first batch of Greek yogurt, using products I already have in my fridge (bought purposely for this). Pretty sure this will save us money in the long run and give me my yogurt fix every day. It will also enable me to use up some of the jam from two years ago. This machine will also make soft white cheese so I will be trying that as well. I am really looking forward to producing more of my own products, especially if those dang tariffs and the tit for tat ones that will occur as well come to fruition.

I got our first power and gas bills for the year, and actually they are not too bad. Mind you December was pretty mild over all. So waiting a couple of months to see what the change will be is a good idea.

There has been a bit more decluttering, a piece here and a piece there. It will surely add up over time, or at least I hope it does.

Off to get supper in the oven and then to visit a few of you before we eat.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  1. I'm going to be interested in hearing a review of the yogurt maker after you've given it a good test. I love yogurt and it's one way I can have milk products. I'm lactose intolerant so have to be careful. We make our own kefir and that doesn't seem to bother me and every once inawhile the Resident Chef lets it 'brew' too long and it turns into cheese. It's lovely when he adds a few spices to it.

  2. Yes the decluttering does add up Jackie - I am telling myself this as I attempt it slowly. Your yoghurt maker sounds wonderful. Although we are in mid summer here I went into winter clothes a couple of days ago & there was snow on the ranges not far from us. Hard to believe xx

  3. We read our meter yesterday for the power bill, so I expect the bill will be here soon. Compared to the month previous, it was a little higher, but that was expected as we had Christmas lights for several hours each day. (sometimes overnight too!)

  5. Your yogurt maker will save you a lot of money. You'll have to keep us updated on your results. It is a great way to use up your jam too. I've got a box to put stuff in that we are decluttering. It only has a few things in it now, but it will grow as we continue to declutter.
