Menu Monday

This week seems to have turned into a pork week. Don't know how that happened, but it has. More than likely it has to do with me being in a use it up mode.

Monday

Leftover ham made into a casserole and served with sliced cucumber and grape tomatoes.

Tuesday

Pork chops, mashed potatoes, and green beans.

Wednesday

Leftover pork roast made into a stir fry, this will clear a bit more out of the crisper. Served over rice (will make extra rice).

Thursday

Leftover ham casserole with the same fresh veggies (should clear those out as well).

Friday

Fish fillets (baked) hashbrown patties (that will clear those out) and corn.

Saturday

Leftover pork stir fry served over the leftover rice.

Sunday

Roast Chicken, mashed potatoes, peas.

So there you have it. We are still munching on leftovers from late last week for our lunches. Harvey had some beef and gravy (with onions) over bread for his today and I had rice mixed with pork and beans. Still a few leftovers to eat and get the fridge cleared out.

Everyone have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Sunday Ramblings

Today is sunny and really just below freezing. Simply gorgeous. I went for a little stroll up and down the street for some fresh air.

Mass was attended online as I am still coughing, and wearing a mask for the 1hr 30 minutes that Father stated in the bulletin would not be feasible. I would definitely be coughing half way through, add in the incense and I would be a wreck. Much better to keep this infection contained here at home.

After Mass and my little walk, I got the quilt sandwiched.

This is the finished top. I had to piece the batting, but I am using up every little bit that I have before purchasing more. Batting of any kind is pretty pricey. I hope to start quilting this tomorrow, just need to figure out a colour (leaning towards a metallic) of thread to use.

I also finished the second Bits and Bobs knitted blanket. Took a picture of the two finished blankets.

I think I have more than enough knitted blankets for right now. I am looking through my books and loose patterns off and on to find something other than mitts, hats, scarves, cowls, and socks to use up some of the orphaned balls. I may be making a few stripey sweaters or vests to use them up.

Drapes and blinds are open taking advantage of the light and solar heating. The furnace has not cut in since this morning and it is 22C in here still. Sun is setting so things will be shut pretty soon to keep the heat in.

Bills for Decembers electrical and gas are coming in now. Both have gone up slightly and that can be attributed to the boys being home and the extra cooking/baking I did. Hopefully I will be able to pare those back slightly, though the electrical won't show a difference for awhile as most will be estimates. Hoping they estimate high so that we get a very low one when a reading is done. The water bill will be high as well since there were more baths, dishes, and clothes washing. Not complaining just figuring out where we can expect to have some savings later.

Off to make supper. This will be another week of using things up, lots of leftovers in the fridge freezer still to use, so hopefully groceries the next time I shop will be minimal. I did purchase a few things at Walmart that I won't be buying again for a little while maybe even a year. This frugalling like never before/buy nothing new for myself is making me think and plan. Probably a very good thing.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Frugal Friday

I am feeling better every day. I only needed a tiny lay down this afternoon, and I woke up at 4:30 unable to fall back asleep. Slight cough, but much better than at the beginning of the week. Could I really be on the mend? I certainly hope so.

What frugal things have been happening on the old homestead over the past week.

1.  I put $3.55 in the savings jars.

2.  Added $70.00 to my savings envelope.

3.  Downloaded 3 free books to my ereader.

4.  Line dried as much as possible on the lines downstairs.

5.  Using up more bits and bobs of yarn making blankets. I am also using up some of my stash making a prayer shawl for one of Kurt's close friends.

6.  Walking for free exercise in the house.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Thrifty Thursday

Cooler and overcast today. Perfect for hot cups of tea or coffee and staying inside.

Nothing really super thrifty happening here. Just the usual. I do have to say that the Chinese food we ordered in for my birthday gave us 9 plates (4 full meals) and so was a very thrifty investment. Saved me cooking those days as well.

I did some mending, mostly redoing a few hems, and fixing a seam or two on a couple of Kris's shirts.

We are using up leftovers and bits and bobs when cooking.

I am using up bits and bobs of threads sewing the quilt.

Here is a picture of the rug I made for Kurt. Lots of fabric used up in making this.

I had thought about making it a bit bigger but my fingers were getting darn sore, and the whole rug was very heavy. Seems to fit where he wants it though.

I have lots more strips left, but I think I might hold off making another one until I don't remember how hard it was to get this done (could use one in the room Kurt uses downstairs when he visits).

Off to rest a little bit and then start supper and visit all of you.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Mid Week.... A New Year

Another lovely day here on the Saskatchewan prairies, a bit cooler but still lovely for this time of year. The extended forecast is calling for this to continue well into the middle of the month. I am looking forward to being able to take a lovely walk on one of these beautiful days. I just need to get my energy back up.

I did finish off the shopping today and of course needed a bit of a nap this afternoon. This time it was only for an hour instead of one and a half hours. Could it be my energy is returning bit by bit? Still I am taking it easy and resting between tasks, I refuse to fall back into being so lethargic that I cannot do anything at all except talk and lay around.

Here are the few pictures I got over Christmas. None during the gift opening.

Kurt getting ready to leave. He was warming up his car so I managed to snap this photo.

Kris looking up something to help with the tech problems I asked him if he could fix.

Eiko decided to try and jump to the top of my bookcase...She made it. This is the first time she has every tried to do this.

Woke up this morning to a winter wonderland.

The fog deposited a coating of hoar frost on all the trees. The glinted and sparkled most of the day.

Hmm, this looks a bit odd, but it is a close up of the frost on one of the branches outside our front window.

Lastly a picture of the quilt I made Kris. It does fit his entire bed.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Tuesday Tidbits

It is a beautiful day, the temperature is well above seasonal and so I took a bit of a walk outside. Mind you my grocery shop took a great deal out of me and I had to have a nap first. Got a bit more energy and managed to do the walk and iron. All the household tasks were completed though it took a while.

I will be going to Walmart tomorrow as I knew just getting the groceries would take a great deal of my energy. I don't like going out twice, but one does what one needs to do. I am wearing my mask (pretty much the only one in the store that was today) and will continue to do so for as long as it takes. I do not want to get that sick ever again.

Since my energy level was so low this afternoon that I needed to nap, I did not work on the quilt. I have done some knitting though so I am keeping busy.

I was asked if a grilled cheese was the same as an English toastie and yes it is. It is one of our favourite sandwiches along with tuna melts and egg salad. Very easy to make and comfort food at its finest. So looking forward to having one with our soup tonight.

My oven is still working and that makes life so much easier. I think I will still pull out the toaster oven for things that need warming (and for those grilled cheese tonight). I have also planned a few meals to be made in the slow cooker, one for the Instant Pot, and one for the Air Fryer. This is in keeping with me trying to get more appliance cooking done and hopefully save on electric costs.

I have actually gotten Harvey to pay attention to how many lights he has on, and with the sunny weather drapes have been wide open to take advantage of that light.

I hope to share some pictures from Christmas with you tomorrow. Not that I really took that many of them but I do have a few.

Off to visit a few of you before I need to make supper.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

Menu Monday

Hello, while I am feeling much better and no longer coughing up what I seem to think of as one of my lungs, I am still tiring out easily. Getting my daily chores done take much longer than I am used to. Today was actually the first day that I managed to get my list completed. Now, I did have to have about an hours nap this afternoon, but that seemed to give me a bit more energy.

Monday

Chicken thighs, roasted veggies.

Tuesday

Soup and sandwiches. I will probably pull out some Hamburger Soup and make Grilled Cheese sandwiches.

Wednesday

Leftover roast beef made into a casserole.

Thursday

Smoked sausages, mashed potatoes, and green beans.

Friday

I will make the pancakes that I had planned on doing last week and just didn't get to.

Saturday

Leftover roast beef casserole.

Sunday

Roast pork, roasted potatoes, roasted carrots.

Lunches will be leftovers or sandwiches. There is leftover chili, and two chicken thighs.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.
