Thrifty Tuesday

How was I thrifty over the last week?

Really each week I seem to get a bit more into a more thrifty mindset. With the constant increase or limitations on the purchase of meat, I am finding new and interesting ways to take a small amount of meat and fashion a meal that my carnivore of a husband enjoys.

Extra meat is packed away to be used in another meal or three when I make a roast or a chicken.

Today I made a tank top from fabric I bought for at a church rummage sale. Actually they were going to give me all the fabric I picked up for free, but I thought a donation would only be right. So for around a dollar and a bit of work I now am the proud owner of a rather dressy tank top. The scraps were collected and may end up being the edging of another top or perhaps a skirt.

I darned a pair of my socks today, and a pair that was too worn I cut into ties to use in the garden.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  1. That's wonderful. I love using the sock fabric for the garden. I am using bits and bobs around the house for my garden too. Really a great way to save money.

  4. What a good idea to use the old socks as garden ties. Love the sound of your new top too, such a luxury to have a nice new thing to wear at this time.

  6. I too am using less meat...hubby hasn't noticed so far. I think recycling everything right now is so critical. Today I chop up an old dress shirt and make hubby a mask as he doesn't feel comfortable in the white one I made as it's too thick (plus I think he wants a black one and if it makes him wear it more than no problem)

  7. All good lessons learned...

    Will we remember them, after?

And hahhhhh.... Will there be a Real After?

Ooopps, I am trying to find Beauty in this Mess. That last question, did not fit! -smile-

  8. I've used tights to hold butternut squash thereby taking the weight. And the odds left for ties. Its a great way of using soft fabric.
