Thursday Tidbits

Today we all learned that this physical distancing might last until July or even longer!!! Scary thought indeed. The curve is not flattening as quickly as our government would like, still it is flattening a little in some of the provinces here in Canada.

The problem is that some people still are not taking this seriously. It is really hitting close to home right now for us. You see, when Kris had his first out of hospital appointment with his specialist, Harvey and I went shopping for him at the Superstore located near this doctor's office. Today I learned that an employee at that store tested positive for Covid-19. We were there well before the outbreak in our province and since it has been over a month since shopping there we should be safe. Still this just goes to show us how we need to be smart and be safe.

I was talking to my friend today (the one I usually have coffee with) and she told me her son and daughter-in-law are allowing their two children to visit with 2 friends. According to them this will keep them from sneaking out and trying to find even more friends. Say what!!! Then there is the pharmacist here in the city that allowed some teenagers to gather in her yard one evening. Sure they were sitting at the requested 6 feet apart, but what is that showing the neighbours. This woman should know better. Her excuse was that her son was going crazy. We are all going a bit stir crazy right now, but for goodness sakes as adults (her son should be considered an adult as well) we all know how important sticking to the rules are.

Kris had his appointment this morning and is healing nicely. His hip has not completely healed as of yet so the doctor still wants him to keep the weight off it, he also wants to see him again in 4 weeks.  His appointment was at the General Hospital in Regina and he said it was extremely quiet. He was shocked that it was not busier.

To get out onto the balcony at Kris's apartment you have to step over about a 9" heater and about the same down on the other side. Hard to do on crutches. He has asked Harvey if he could perhaps make a pair of steps so he can at least get outside when the weather improves. He figures on perhaps even working on his balcony for a bit each day. I can see being stuck inside day, after day, after day (he has been inside since February 12th) starting to become depressing. Heck if I could not get out for my walks every day I think I would be stark raving mad by now.

I did my shopping yesterday, but will be heading out to another store tomorrow. Turkey is on sale and I need to pick up a couple more things for Kris. Milk will wait until closer to the time we go up. We will be heading up on the 11th and enjoying Easter with at least one of our sons. Hopefully we will have a video chat with Kurt so we can at least see each other.

Everybody have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  1. Gosh I hope Harvey can fashion some steps so Kris can get out to get some fresh air. And, I pray that people will indeed take social distancing as seriously as they should.

    1. Harvey got the lumber ready and plans on phoning Kris for a few measurements. It will give him something to do once he bottles this last wine he made.

      God bless.

    1. I do hope we can continue to visit, and clean his apartment. I worry that they will stop allowing travel to other cities.

      God bless.

  3. Oh Jackie! I read all your posts in the morning here and you always finish with "Everybody have a wonderful evening. God bless." During this crisis those words make me smile. I have had a wonderful evening and I will have a wonderful day. I have not caught Covid 19. I have people around me who by their kindness are keeping me safe. God has blessed me. Thank you for he regular reminder.

  4. How great that his hip is healing well and the idea for a step is also a wonderful solution so he can get some sun and a different view.

  5. I think, in time, we'll all get used to our new normal. But those who are flouting the rules (especially the pharmacist) may well be playing with fire.

Glad to hear your son is healing well. Would a small ramp work to allow him to go out on the balcony? I'm sure your husband will figure something out for him.

    Take care and stay well!

    1. I think that Harvey already has a plan or two up his sleeve. Just need Kris to give us a few measurements and he will start to work.

      God bless.

  6. -sigh- These people, who are not being PARENTS, and enforcing the Rules, are rather complicit in this continuing horror. Which is a terrible thing, to be!

Best of luck with your getting things, for your home bound son.

A lady on a Greek Island... Her daughter and son in law and children, have to stay inside their small home!
And they are doing so. It is the Law there.

People with going-crazy-teens, elsewhere, should think about that.

    1. I did manage to get most of what he needs while shopping this week, and I even managed to get bread machine yeast for myself.

      God bless.

  7. They've cleared the hospitals of anyone who can leave them, makes it much safer for everyone. People here get it but we have so many more cases. Hubby hasn't left the house in 6 days (that has never happened since I've known him - 17 years) so today we are going for a drive and to drop off a cherry cobbler at Mom's house. I went to her house yesterday to drop some groceries off and so she could shower with me outside in case she fell. I am just so sad about what is going on and am worried things will never again be the way they were in December.

  8. I don't know if things will ever be the same again. I really hope so, and I hope we have all learned some lessons from this.

I am glad that you got to help your Mom today.

    God bless.
