Sunday Ramblings

I am busy listening to the Conservative Party leadership election. While I am not really a capital C conservative, I do have some conservative tendencies, I also have some Liberal and New Democratic tendencies as well. I am one of those dreaded swing voters and people should remember us as a big part of the tapestry that makes up Canada.

I have been spending lots of time out in the garden getting things harvested and processed for the winter. I am surprised that our tomatoes are coming in so quickly. I am going to start freezing them next week. The rutabaga should be dug out this week, and the potatoes and onions the week after.

Dehydrating should also be finished within the next few weeks, which is much earlier than usual. I think the heat has had much to do with things being ready so early in the various pots. Garden wise it is later than usual.

I learned this evening that the provincial government in the the province that our oldest son teaches is not giving out many masks to their students. I think I will make a bundle to give to Kurt to hand out to his students if they need them, I have the fabric and may as well put it to good use. Keeping our son and his students healthy seems like a really good use of my talents. If I have fabric leftover, perhaps I will make some for the school I worked in before retiring.

Still working on the knitted Christmas gift, but once that is finished the rest of my Christmas gift plans will move right along. Projects need to be completed, and my use it up of fabric and yarn in my stashes needs to be a continuing effort on my part. Mainly because I wish to simplify my life. This is an ongoing challenge in my life.

Everyone have a wonderful evening.

God bless.

  1. Making masks for the students is a lovely gesture, and a very good use for any excess fabric.

  2. I feel the same about my fabric stash, I want to keep using it up. I bought my first Christmas present from the charity shop I work in this weekend. It was only something small for OH, but I'm going to look out for things from now on as it will come around very quickly.

  3. It is so great for you to make masks. The need to wash them after each use is not considered by many.

  4. I didn't watch until the very end and only because it was such a gong show that I wanted to see it out. I've voted across the political spectrum but lean more to the left as I get older. This pandemic has shown that we truly need to be more supportive of our communities - like the assistance you're providing your son with masks. My cousin's daughter is also a teacher so I sent her a small amount of money to help provide whatever she needs. Others did took, and she mentioned she has five boxes of disposable masks, as well as disinfectant wipes and other cleaning supplies. Sad, that the teachers have to do this for the students.

    Enjoy your harvesting!

  5. Jackie, I'm surprised that you harvest the potatoes so early. We were always of the mind set that the ground was the best storage place for as long as possible before it snowed. So with the tomatoes. The timing of the first frost is always unpredictable.

  6. Such a good and generous idea to make masks for the students. It will help to keep some people safe, so can only be a good thing.

  7. It sounds like your days are full, Jackie... full with good things. I am a "swing voter" too. I don't vote for the party, I vote for the person. Love, Andrea xoxo
